When we perform operational temperature testing, the unit is completely loaded so that the power supply is at full capacity. The unit is then placed inside a box in the temperature chamber so that there is no air movement, and the unit is completely buttoned up. This testing procedure assures that the unit will function reliably at the temperature we specify. Manufacturing environments vary widely among different industry types. 5 Bundled Solutions & Software Compatibility To satisfy the factory automation market s demand for increasingly open solutions, Xycom Automation s industrial PCs can be bought separately, or bundled with HMI/SCADA visualization software (OpenHMI ) and/or PC-based control software (OpenCNTRL ). To promote the open solutions concept even further, the Xycom PC product family supports most popular industrial operating systems, as well as monitoring and control packages. UL Hazardous Location Definitions Most Xycom industrial computers meet Underwriters Laboratories explosive atmosphere protection tests for Class I and Class II, Division 2 locations. Class I locations are those that may have airborne flammable gases or vapors in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures. Class II locations are those that are, or may become, hazardous because of the presence of combustible dust. Division 2 locations are those that are not normally hazardous, but may become hazardous because of a failure or breakdown. An Industrial Computer Checklist A true industrial computer is designed as one from inception, not by adding hardening features to an already designed office-grade desktop computer. Xycom Automation industrial computers define the requirements for an industrial computer platform. All standard panel-mounted Xycom industrial computers carry a NEMA 4/4X/2 rating, as well as an IEC 529 IP65 rating that is applied outside of North America, and are C5 approved. NEMA 2 means that an enclosure is dust tight, drip proof, and approved for indoor industrial use. NEMA 4 means that an enclosure is waterproof and approved for outdoor industrial use.
