2. COMPUTER Is a machine that manipulates information or "data."

3.HARDWARE Are all the fisic components that makes up a computer system

4. COMPUTER CASE Is the metal and plastic box that contains the main components of the computer

5. DESKTOP CASE lies flat on a desk, and the monitor usually sits ontopofit

6. TOWER CASE Istallandsitsnexttothemonitororonthefloor

7. ON/OFF SWITCH When you poke on it the computer boots up or put off

8. POWER SUPPLY AND POWER CORD PLUG The computer take and convert energy from the socket to continuous voltage

9. BATTERY Chemical reaction which proveides energy to the computer. It's rechargeable

10. PORTS (pins) Madetofitonlyonetypeofplug-indevice

11. MOTHERBOARDS Is the computers main circuit board. It's a thin plate that holds the CPU (Central Processing Unit), memory, and expansion cards

12. CPU: CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT OR MICROPROCESSOR Is a chip which acts like the brain of the computer

13. EXPANSION CARD Is a card which you can install to expand a computer's capabilities

14. VIDEO CARD Allow you to see images and text on the screen

15. SOUND CARD OR AUDIO CARD Lets the computer play sounds through speakers

16. BUS An electrical conductor that makes a common connection between several circuits

17. SHORT-TERM MEMORY OR RAM: RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY Data is temporarily stored here until you save your work to the hard disk. The data disappears when the computer is turned off

18. BIT= YES OR NO (1 or 0) The smaller unit of measurement of information (from Binary + digit)like a switch

19. BYTE 8BITS( )like8switchestogether

20. KB: KILOBYTES 1,024 BYTES like 1,024 groups of 8 switches or bits

1,024 KBYTES 21. MB: MEGABYTES

1,024 MB 22. GB: GIGABYTE

23. HARD DISK DRIVE (C drive) Is the data center inside of the computer

24. FLOPPY DISK DRIVE (diskette, A Until 1.44MB of data drive, )

25. CD-ROM: COMPACT DISK READ-ONLY MEMORY (until 650MB) Accesses information on a CD-ROM similar to how a CD player accesses music from a CD. CD- ROMsupto650MB

26. ROM: READ-ONLY MEMORY You can access the programs or data stored on CD-ROMs but you can't write or store your own dataorprogramsonthem

27. CD WRITER Can write CD-RW (Compact Disk ReWritable) and CD-R (Compact Disk-Recordable) discs, and read CD-ROM discs

28. DVD-ROM: DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC READ-ONLY MEMORY Can read DVD discs, all types of CDs, and can display movies from digital video discs

29. ZIP DRIVE (stores250mb) 250 megabytes on disks

30. USB FLASH MEMORY Known as pendrive

31. INPUT DEVICES Are connected to the computer through ports or sockets and are used to enter information into the computer

32. KEYBOARD Lets you type information into the computer

33. MOUSE Is the hand-held device that lets you point, click, and move objects on the monitor screen

34. TRACKBALL Is similar to a mouse, but the ball that helps maneuver the cursor is on top instead of underneath

35. TOUCHPAD You can use your finger or a tool called a stylus onapadtomovearoundthescreen

37. SCANNER (resolution) Allowsyoutocopyanimageintoyourcomputer. The more dots per inch, the better the resolution

38. HAND-HELD SCANNERS Work like scanning guns used at department stores

39. SHEET-FED SCANNERS Look like a printer and can scan only loose, single pages

40. FLATBED SCANNERS Look and act like a copy machine

41. MICROPHONE Usedtoentersoundinthecomputertorecord

42. JOYSTICK Is a leverused whileplaying a computer game

43. DIGITAL CAMERA (pixels) Lets you capture a picture in digital form and lets you transfer that image directly from this periferal to the computer

44. MONITOR SCREEN (video card) Is where the computer displays text and pictures

45. LCD: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY Uses liquid crystal cells that change reflectivity in an applied electric field; used for portable computer displays

46. PRINTER Is a machine that prints a paper copy of what youseeonthemonitor

47. DOT MATRIX PRINTER Produces characters and illustrations by striking pins against an ink ribbon. It can print multipage forms

48. INK JET PRINTER Printers shoot tiny drops of ink onto paper

49. LASER PRINTER It produces better quality black text documents andusuallyturnsoutmorepagesatalowercost per page than inkjets.

Make sound and music audible 50. SPEAKERS
