1 Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Mobile Communication Systems Program: B.E. (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) Semester VII Course ET- 71: Mobile Communication Systems Prerequisites: a course on Digital and Analog communication. Periods per week Lecture 4 (Each of 60 min.) Practical 2 Tutorial - Faculty in charge: Dayanand Ambawade Hours Marks Evaluation System Theory Examination Practical examination - - Oral Examination - 25 Term Work - 25 Total 150 Course Overview: The aim of this course is to introduce to the students concept of mobile wireless communication. Students will be introduced different cellular concept, which are useful for the design of cellular system. This course also elaborates about communication channel and defines different path loss models and related concepts to channel. This course gives the in- depth knowledge about how to enhance capacity of cellular system. Different cellular communication systems like GSM, CDMA and WCDMA is focused with their technical details and advantages and disadvantages of each. Course Educational Objectives (CEO): CEO 1 To introduce the fundamental principles of mobile wireless communication systems. CEO 2 To study basic principles of mobile radio propagation and channel models. CEO 3 CEO 4 To enable the student to understand the basic features of cellular mobile communication systems and digital radio: FDMA, TDMA, CDMA. To introduce the knowledge of various generations mobile and wireless communication technologies and its applications to students. Course Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course student will be able to:

2 a b c d e f Appreciate role of cellular communication system, justify how to reduce interference also justify how to improve coverage and system capacity of cellular system, and Appraise traffic intensity of channel, channel allocation techniques and hand- off, estimate the busy hour traffic and use Erlang- B and C chart. Explain the GSM services, channel structure, frame structure and express the GSM architecture. Understand large- scale and small- scale fading- channel models, and to analyze their influences on a mobile- communication system s performance.
