3 VoWLAN telephone as mobile peripheral for elmeg hybird The Ascom i62 is an SIP telephone with a WLAN interface that supports both the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. It is a perfect match for the elmeg hybird and bintec access points. The Ascom i62 VoWLAN telephone (Voice over WLAN) is ideal for adding cordless functionality to an elmeg hybird telephone system. Using a WLAN network as a cordless telephone network is an interesting alternative to the established DECT technology. The Ascom i62 simply uses the WLAN for its radio network, eliminating the need to install a separate DECT radio network. When planning and deploying the WLAN network, special considerations for VoWLAN technology must be taken into account. 3

4 VoWLAN telephony versus DECT VoWLAN represents an extension of DECT technology and is not intended to replace DECT. With VoWLAN, it is not necessary to install an additional radio network. VoWLAN places high demands on the quality of WLAN coverage. Consequently, it is necessary to perform a wireless site survey before installing the devices. VoWLAN requires approximately 2 to 2.5 times more WLAN access points than the number of base stations required for a DECT system. 4

11 Configuration and battery charging technology Ascom Programmer: The Ascom i62 can be configured using the Windows tool "Win-PDM" and the Ascom Programmer ( ). The Ascom Programmer is connected to the PC via a USB port. The battery of the i62 can simultaneously be recharged through the Programmer. Ascom desktop charging station: recharges the Ascom i62. The power supply is provided by the included plug-in AC adapter. The charging time is 2.5 hours. 11
