3 1 Version These release notes describe the changes, fixes, known issues and release details that apply to firmware version for the HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch (HP PN B21) and optional management module (HP P/N B21). 2 Changes Hardware Support OS Support Software Components Industry Standards Compliance 3 Bug Fixes Between and : SNMP Walks no longer cause a management module to reboot. Between and : A timing hole during Ethernet startup that impacted DHCP has been fixed. A fix was made to update the IB Node Description when moving a management module between systems. The OFED commands ibportstate enable and ibportstate disable now work correctly with the switch. Certain sequences of bad packets arriving at a port no longer cause the port to hang. Ports in the down/training state can now be disabled properly. Between and : Link flow control parameters have been adjusted to better handle high stress workloads. Links no longer get stuck in Init or Polling after a Link Down event. The capture command no longer hangs if DHCP is configured on the Ethernet interface of the management switch, and the network configuration received from the DHCP server does not include a gateway address. The switch now boots successfully after resetting the chassis back to factory defaults. Adaptive routing no longer move routes incorrectly for spine switch chip port 0 LID(s). Between and : Improvements in attenuation-based tuning for cable ports. Between and : When using OpenSM with a HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch, OpenSM no longer displays the error message 0x01 -> ERR 331D: LFT of switch <guid> is not up to date.. The definition of the PHYS_STATE of a port has been modified. The port PHYS_STATE is determined sequentially (i.e., if not 1 then 2, etc.) by the following rules: Disabled: if the port has most recently been set to disabled by a subnet manager agent (SMA) packet, and since that time the port has not been explicitly disabled via the command line interface (CLI) (for example, ismportdisable). 4 Sleeping: if the port has most recently been set to sleeping by an SMA packet, and since that time the port has not been explicitly disabled via the CLI. Disabled: if the port has been explicitly disabled via the CLI (for example, ismportdisable). Sleeping: if the port is a cable port and the quad small form-factor pluggable (QSFP) is not online, or if the port is an interswitch link (ISL) port and the corresponding leaf/spine for that (ISL is not installed in the chassis. Polling: the IBTA-defined link training state. 4 Known Issues The table below provides instructions to resolve each known issue for the QLogic Firmware version Known Issue When a switch has an IPv6 address, the web browser refresh button(s) may not work on some pages. The ismportstats command cannot be used with the -port option for Bay ports in the HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch CLI. When rebooting the HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch via Chassis Viewer, the page may not refresh properly after the reboot is complete. Instructions Instead of using the browser refresh button, close then reopen the applicable window. Specify the ismportstats command without the -port option to view the Port Statistics for Bay ports. Refresh the browser page. 5 Additional Information Included in This Release HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch firmware version (X.xt pkg) HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch embedded firmware version (QLogic_12000_V1_firmware emfw) Miscellaneous For access to the QLogic Fabric Manager, the QLogic InfiniBand Fabric Suite (IFS) is required (v or higher). For detailed information regarding Fabric Manager enhancements, fixes, and known issues, refer to the QLogic InfiniBand Fabric Suite v Release Notes. Upgrade information: Externally-managed HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switches (part number: B21) without the Management Module (part number: B21): download the free host-based IFS ( and install on a node. To upgrade the switch firmware, use the FastFabric Toolset. Managed HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switches (part number B21) with Management Module (part number B21) installed: Upgrade the switch using a Web browser connected to the management interface. To activate the switch-based Fabric Manager, the user needs to purchase the latest version of IFS, then generate a license key on the HP Software Depot interface. The switch-based QLogic Fabric Manager supports a maximum of 500 nodes. The HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch will auto-negotiate to the proper speed with any device that is configured for IBTA compliant auto-negotiation. QLogic products will auto-negotiate with devices that utilize IBTA-compliant auto-negotiation. NOTE: When attaching QLogic products to a third-party switch, the bit error rate is optimized if the third-party switch utilizes attenuation-based tuning. The HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR IB Switch has been qualified with the following web browsers: Internet Explorer versions 7.0 and 8.0 for Windows Firefox versions 3.0 and 3.6 for Windows 4
