Evelyn Barrick and her husband Dennis were heavily involved in collecting and trading barbed wire in the Western United States in the 1960's while they resided in Boulder, Colorado. They had an extensive network of other collectors with whom they frequently traded barbed wire located in places such as New Mexico, California, Oklahoma, Texas and many others. 4 Evelyn Barrick Barbed Wire Collection Biographical/Historical note Evelyn Barrick was a prominent barbed wire collector who was active mainly in the 1960's. She and her husband, Dennis, resided in Boulder and were active in the local wire community, belonging to the Colorado Wire Collector's Association. Her collection began in 1967 when she saw an ad for collecting old barbed wire and sent in a piece to a prominent wire collector in Texas. One of the Barrick couple's prominent contacts with whom they traded wire was Cecil Guthrie, who was located in Albuquerque. At this time, the barbed wire industry was mostly comprised of barbed wire collectors trading with one another, as Evelyn and Dennis did. Scope and Contents note This collection contains materials related to Evelyn's barbed wire collection. This includes correspondence with those whom Evelyn traded barbed wire with, as well as an address book of her contacts. There are also newspaper clippings, trade catalogs a scrapbook that documents Evelyn's interest in barbed wire.
