3 1. Quick startup guide 1. Insert your SIM card to the modem and connect GSM and GPS antennas. 2. Connect Volts power supply to VBAT (+) and GND (-) pins. 3. Turn on the modem by connecting ON/OFF pin to ground for at least 1 second.. Setup Access Point of your cellular provider by sending the following SMS command: conf,pass,apn=providerapn.name If your cellular provider requires username and password for GPRS connection: conf,pass,apn=providerapn.name,gprsuser=username,gprspass=pass wait for the reply from the modem 5. Test GPRS connection by sending the following SMS command: wait for the reply from the modem conf,pass,gprs 6. If GPRS test was successful, modem is ready to use. Register and login to OpenGPS.net to view your GPS data.. (Optional) Change SMS password from default by sending following SMS command: conf,pass,pwd=newpassword SMS password will be changed to NEWPASSWORD. 3

4 2. Turning ON the modem To turn on the GM862-GPS-OT the pin ON# must be tied low for at least 1 second and then released. To check if power has raised it is possible to monitor the PWRMON line, when this line goes high the module is powered on, but before it remains on the device needs other 900ms for software startup. Hence check the PWRMON line and 900 ms after its transition to high it is possible to release the ON# pin. The GPS antenna will be supplied and the receiver will start the scanning activity to achieve the Fix. If you need the modem to start automatically when power is applied keep the pin ON# tied low, however in this case power savings features will not be available. 3. Turning OFF the modem To turn OFF the GM862-GPS the pin ON# must be tied low for at least 1 second and then released. The same circuitry and timing for the power on shall be used. The device shuts down after the release of the ON# pin. TIP: To check if the device has powered off, the hardware line PWRMON should be monitored. When PWRMON goes low, the device has powered off.. SMS commands syntax All SMS commands have the following syntax: conf,pass,command1,command2,command3 conf static word that should not be changed pass SMS password that can be changed with configuration command.

Modem will attempt to establish GPRS connection and reply with results. Turn on/off debugging messages. 7 5. Monitoring GPS data 5.1 Registering to OpenGPS.net web interface To view your GPS data, open website in your browser. If you do not have an account, register by filling in the registration form. You will be asked for modem IMEI number that can be found on top of your modem. 5.2 Adding more modems to OpenGPS web interface.
