5 General 1.3 A IT rules.mdb in user directory with Win7 Previously after the installation of Clipalone/Standalone/Workflow client the newsworks directory C:\...\newsworks\ has to be set with all user permissions. This is not necessary anymore since newsworks version 6.3. Setup process is simplified. newsworks setup newsworks uses now rules read from the resource. Therefore the rules.mdb is not necessary anymore. - 5

6 newsocr 2 newsocr 2.1 A O Info which OCR is used In previous versions of newsclip it was not visible which newsclip is used. Now you can see this in the info about newsclip. Better overview and administration of newsclip. newsclip Open the help menu - Info about newsclip. Click [ESC] to leave this dialog. newsclip_63_usermanual/basics/user interface/help menu 2.2 A newsocr server newsocr server allows a central ("remote") access to OCR licenses inside the whole newsworks environment. 6

7 newsocr It can be used in combination with the local OCR, where normally each workstation (Client machine) uses its own registered OCR license. In future newsclip versions an OCR service console will be available. Own OCR licenses are not required on all workstations. As an example 10 workstations can share 2 (remote) OCR licenses, instead using 10 (local) OCR licenses. Special OCR (e.g. Gothic/Fraktur), often combined with additional costs, can be accessed only on request and has not to be available for every station the whole time. newsclip Important: The CD key has to be released for newsocr server. Be aware of the amount of Client Access Licenses (CAL) of the server. The entry for Remote OCR can be activated in the file *-glbl.ini in the NWOCR] section: [NWOCR] PATH= REMOTEOCR=0 REMOTEWORK= EXCLUDEFROMREMOTEOCR= NOTTRYLOCAL=0 REMOTEOCR=n The (remote) OCR Service is switched off by 0 and on by 1 NOTTRYLOCAL=n 1 - the OCR service is always used 0 - the systems tries to find a local OCR, only if it cannot be found, the OCR service is used. EXCLUDEFROMREMOTEOCR=comutername,computername Single computers can be eliminated from the OCR service by using their NetBIOS names The remoteocr service has to be installed There is the cmd "regsvr.cmd" file is stored in the NWOCRSERVICE folder. This file has to be executed "administrative" to register the service. MSC service console: enter the user that shall access the Share and set the service to automatic. newsclip_63_configuration/special functions/newsocr Server 2.3 A ABBYY Finereader 7/8/10 not in setup anymore The previous ABBYY Finereader versions 7.1/8/10 cannot be installed with the setup anymore. We recommend using Finereader 11 or Nuance Omnipage 18 after an update to newsworks 6.3. For existing systems, that shall be updated, we offer a crossgrade to Nuance Omnipage 18 or an upgrade to Finereader 11 on request. 7

8 newsocr Use current OCR engines, testes with the latest newsworks 6.3 version. newsworks Clipalone and Standalone setups do only contain the selections for Nuance Omnipage 18, Abbyy Finereader 11 or no OCR. newsworks_63_installation_standalone newsworks_63_installation_workflow 8

9 newsclip 3 newsclip 3.1 O Target page layout The previous target page layout went too wastefully with certain pages place, if images are embedded in text columns. On the target page these images have been removed from the column at the break and positioned separately (see example 2). Here often a break was performed, no matter if "Graphics at the end" was set ON or OFF. Column images (images that intersect a text in a polygon zone, see example 1) are assembled as far as possible together with the text area on the target page (see example 3). Exception: If the text zone has to be cut in that area. Then is the behavior as before. newsclip Some pages will be wasteful with placing images if graphics are embedded in text columns (example 2). 11 3.2 O Auto correction checks with multi language Automated corrections when using multiple languages in newscorr Edit or the correction mask in newsclip.. Available since newsclip / newscorr Edit #33 newsclip, newscorr Edit The described functionality is only available if more than one language is configured for a publication / a document. Each Text has a main (primary) language, this will be the preferred check language. Until now the main language was the first configured language - now the main language is the one, recognized by OCR. If a word is recognized by the OCR in a second configured language, then this word is marked in orange, if it is also available in the dictionary of the second language. Orange means "not in the main language. If additional languages are configured, and the word is not found in the main or second language the systems tries to find the word in the other languages, too. If it is found there, it is marked in violet, and means "is found in one of the configured languages, please check". If the old procedure (check only the first configured language) is desired, use the configuration switch [SPELLCHECK]CONFIGURATEDLANGUAGE=1. Additionally the orange and violet marker can be switched off in the properties settings (right click to editor window). Then only the main language is seen as valid. If all auto correction steps do not help to correct, the text is marked as error and in red. Use this functionality In newscorr: Switch between single and multiple language per user In newsclip: Configure the multiple languages per publication. In newsclip status bar: View the multiple language by a + after the main language e.g. French+ newsclip_63_ newscorr_63_ 3.3 A File format for grey shaded images A scan of grayscale images took sometimes longer than for color images. Cause was the large amount of data, because grayscale images were placed in the POOL as a TIFF. Now you can choose the JPEG file format for grayscale images. If grayscale and color images are processed, file sizes can become very large, depending on the size of the source page and its color resolution. The transfer of such files can affect the efficiency of the network. To avoid such files can be stored as JPEG to get smaller data amount and higher work speed. newsclip

12 newsclip In the section Image Files of System configuration, you can activate the checkbox Store grayscale images as JPEG, in which case, the scanned images are stored in the JPG-Format, which is considerably smaller than the usual TIFF-Format, at the cost, of course, of quality. newsclip_63_configuration\system configuration\pool images 3.4 A Cache inactive per default The cache is now inactive per default and can be activated if desired. newsclip 12

14 newsclip/web 4 newsclip/web 4.1 O webclip new functionality New functionality for website analysis and clipping of articles. Faster article clipping from web pages. Possibility to train often used web pages (for administrator only). newsclip/web After calling an article with newsclip web and analyzing of each zone with the tool, all detected zones will be marked and associated with a particular zone type (title, paragraph text, image,...). Unwanted zones can be deleted after selecting by the [Del] key. Zones automatically detected appear in the zone type color known from newsclip (yellow for text, blue for title, green for an image, etc.). Proposals for zones appear with a dashed outline when you move the mouse over a zone. One click is enough and the zone is added to the zone selection. [Del] Deletes selected zones. Zones can be adjusted in size, if the mouse pointer changes into a double arrow on the zone boundary. Missing zones can be created manually with pressed left mouse. The zone type can be changed via the zone properties window (left mouse button). 14

15 newsclip/web Knife: The knife function is slightly different, as in the clipping, because working with web content instead of images. Thus, it is actually a 'shrink' feature Select the knife button Drag the mouse over the large zone to view sections stored in the HTML code of the web page If desired, click on the zone. The zone will turn divided it into the previously viewed zone parts If you see no zone parts, there is no dividing possible in the HTML code and therefore the knife tool is without functionality. You can then use the normal zone editing tools to drag zones smaller or larger. Zones With overlapping zones the last created and active zone should be edited first For editing zones we recommend a work procedure from top to down and from the left to the right. Note: Text zones created or changed in size manually with pressed left mouse will be proceeded as an image. Then the text on the image will be read by OCR instead using the text from the HTML code. The new tool bar at the left contains following functionalities: Default tool for creating and selecting of zones. Knife tool. This knife is used different as the knife known in the clipping step. Here newsclip web does not work with (scanned) images. Instead the website content, the HTML code is used. This is then more a shrink" functionality. Select the knife tool Hover the mouse over a zone that is too large. This will show the zone parts from the HTML code If desired click on the zone and it will be cut into the previous shown zone parts 15

16 newsclip/web If no zone parts are shown, no cutting is possible in the HTML and therefore the knife is not working. Then you can use the normal zone editing function and drag the zones smaller or larger. Change Zone Order This button activates a tool with which you can change the order of the zones manually. You can de-activate the tool by pressing the [Esc] key. Selecting the function changes the shape of the mouse pointer the head of the new order.. Click the zone you want to place at Once the first number has been assigned, the new number is shown in the mask for you to assign, and this is repeated until you have arranged all the zones in the order you want. This functionality helps you if zones are in the wrong order or if not all zones are recognized automatically and you have to add zones manually. Auto Order The Auto Order function is used for automatic zone numbering. This function is particularly useful if you numbered the zones manually, but not in the correct order. A part of an article was not recognized when using automatic zone recognition, and has to be marked manually for inclusion. After setting the attributes of these zones, select all the zones in the article with the space bar. Press the Auto Order button, and the zones are automatically put in the right order. Show Zone Numbers The Show Zone Numbers button switches the display of zone numbers on or off. Remove Cover Depending on configuration, zones, which have already been mounted, are marked with either a gray or a light cover. With the help of this function, the cover can be removed. This covers show which parts of the web page you have already selected. You can remove single zones with a click on it.. On target page Zones that contain a link show now an arrow sign in top left edge. Trained newspapers The webfilter.xml file for trained newspapers is stored in the Lists folder. In the current newsclip/web version the training can only be done by CCS. newsclip_web_63_usermanual 16

17 newscorr 5 newscorr 5.1 A O Hunspell correction engine Hunspell is a free software spell checker and morphological analyzer designed for languages with rich morphology and complex word compositions. The spelling check is carried out on basis of dictionaries, which are available in the form of dictionary files s The Hunspell spelling checker is enabled by default. By default, Hunspell dictionaries are available for the following languages : German, English In addition to these available languages by default you can add more languages (or dictionaries). s newsclip, newscorr Hunspell engine is used to support the integration of Hunspell dictionaries. Activating the engine (demostart-glbl.ini): In [CHECKSPELL] section include: USEHUNSPELL=1 Verify that the Hunspell dictionaries (HSpellX.dict) are located in the DICT variable folder. Hunspell dictionaries The HSpell dictionaries are a list of txt files compressed to.zip (and renamed the extension to.dict). They can be opened as normal.zip files. Hunspell dictionaries import tool. This tool offers two ways to import Hunspell dictionaries: Select one of the Mozilla or OpenOffice dictionaries installed in the machine. Select the compressed file with the dictionary to import. After source dictionary selection the user must select the language of the chosen dictionary and click in the "Create" button. Creating a dictionary of an existing Hunspell dictionary will replace the previous dictionary with the new version!! General: A set of Hunspell dictionaries are included to the standard configuration. There are different sources of Hunspell dictionaries edited by the community or organizations. If a dictionary doesn't give good results 17

In previous versions only one source page thumbnail was visible per page. Appropriate source page thumbnails can now be shown for several articles on one page. newspress 22

23 newspress This applies to the installation mode "Several articles per page". Here, the source page thumbnails were mounted on top of each other in previous versions, in the end only the last of them was visible. Beginning from newspress 6.3 the system searches always for an empty space, so that the thumbnails will no longer overlap. To do this, the following ways are possible: (a) Heading is wider than the article text and there is still enough space at the bottom, then the thumbnail will be placed there. Bottom line aligned with the article's bottom line. (b) Right of the article is still enough space, then the thumbnail will be placed there and aligned with the article. Only if the article is high enough. (c) If neither is possible the first thumbnail will be placed at its natural place, more thumbnails will look for an empty place so that both can be seen. If you click on such link the URL will be opened after confirming a prompt in your default browser. This is configurable for exporting newsflow, too. Improved benefits for the PDF, HTML, and ipad App output. Opportunity in the newsflow export with PDFs (standard CCS export) to produce PDF files, which include clickable links. newspress, newsflow, newsclip web Links are shown in the PDF by a thin, blue vertical line in front of it. 26

27 newspress On the newsclip web target page the zones containing links are marked in blue and can be seen in the zone dialog window, too. Clickable Internet addresses are exported in the standard XML/PDF export. The clickable links in newsflow are generated in the burn sections: 27

28 newspress a button / icon: A picture or logo contains the URL. The URL itself is not visible. With a click on the icon the usual prompt of the Acrobat Reader appears. Then the default browser starts and opens the URL. URL as written text: limited in length, that it does not run out from the target page or overwrites other elements on the page The links that come across the articles be deposited now. Corresponding zones are marked as in newspress. newspress_63_manual newsflow_63_configuration 6.7 A Reconfigure PDF author's properties Until now all PDF documents created by newspress have the author entry in the properties of the PDF. It was a demand from our customers to have this entry customizable. Select if you want the author shown or not. newspress 28

30 ipad App 7 ipad App 7.1 A IT ipad upload with HTTPS protocol FTPS upload of data to the ipad server can lead to problems on high secure network environments. After the authentication has been negotiated on the default ports for FTPS, server and client agree to a different port on which you want to transfer data. This may cause difficulties, because the negotiated port must be also unlocked. Since this is randomly awarded in a certain area, this is not manageable in heavily secured networks. HTTPS as an alternative upload functionality to FTPS. newspress mark HTTPS 30

34 newsprocserver 9 newsprocserver 9.1 A IT newsprocserver stopped after server restart, reporting a licensing problem There were messages from customers who use newsprocserver that after a restart of the server running the newsprocserver, the newsprocserver service will no longer run, because there supposedly is a license problem. Background is the access to the $-file(s). If the file server is not on the same computer, it is common that Windows apparently cannot separate the connection to the exclusive open $-files. Even minutes after the restart they were still not deletable. In other cases this $-files can be deleted in the Explorer but the newsprocserver can't do this previously and refused therefore to start. A server restart is allowed, and newsprocserver will not be switched off by license request. newsprocserver Added now a license retry for 1,5 minutes until exit on error. newsprocserver_63_manual 34
