1 How to use the imap 1. The imap opens to show a map. If the initial map doesn t look like the one below, start by clicking the refresh icon. 2. Next, click the pin icon. 3. And then tick the West Sussex County box. This will show you where the county of West Sussex is in relation to the whole map. Choosing which area of the map to explore Either 1. Choose a search type (place name, postcode, grid reference, parish or path number) by clicking on the drop down arrow to the right of the search box. 2. Type in the name or number of what you re looking for into the search box (please note that you ll need to use the full grid reference, for example SU837185, to locate an exact spot on the map). 3. Click the search

2 button. or 1. Drag the pin onto the map. The map will zoom to the selected area, the local information panel will be displayed and a pop-out box will appear. Click the cross to the right hand side of the pop-out box to close it. Navigation aids 1. Use the controls to the left hand side of the map itself to move around the map. 2. The four arrows at the top move the map north, south, east and west. 3. Use the plus sign (+) to see the map at a larger scale and the minus sign (-) to see the map at a smaller scale. 4. Click the double arrow (<<) to the left of the controls to hide the control panel and view a larger map. Click it again to see the control panel again.

3 You can also click on the map and then drag it in any direction to reposition it. Displaying information Use the buttons below the search box to choose the information you d like to display: The house icon takes you to the home panel.

4 The information icon takes you to the local information panel, where you can find information within a given radius of your chosen West Sussex location. The pin icon takes you to the map features panel, where you can choose which features to display across the whole of the map, and view a key. The refresh/clear search icon clears the search and returns the display to the original map view. Finding out what's in your area 1. Once you've found the area you re interested in (in this example we're looking for information about the town of Horsham), select the information icon to view the local information panel. 2. From there, select one of the links from the list to view information about the locality and display corresponding locations on the map (in this example, it s showing the individual buildings that form the Town Trail). Links to further information You can click the underlined text in the local information panel to find out more about a feature. This may be information o

5 website, or a link to an online leaflet. n a Key and overview 1. Select the map features panel to view a key to the map. 2. For an overall view of features in your area tick the options that interest you in the map features panel. 3. Click a feature on the map to find out more. Information about it will be displayed in a pop-out box. Finding path numbers and wildcard searches

6 1. Click on the drop down arrow to the right of the search box to select the path number search, and then type in the number of the path in which you're interested. 2. If you don t know the full number of a path, you can do a wildcard search by using an asterisk (*). For example, to find all path numbers beginning with 33, type 33*, then select a path from the resulting list. 3. The same principle applies when searching for place names, typing an asterisk before Grinstead, for example, will find both East and West Grinstead. An asterisk after north will find a list of all locations that start with "north". Displaying path numbers on the map Either Using the local information panel, select paths within 500m. 2. A list of path numbers and related information will be displayed below the paths heading and paths will be highlighted on the map in red. 3. Click one of the paths on the map to see the details for that path, which will be displayed in a pop-out box.

7 or if you re interested to know which parish the path falls within, as well as information about the path itself 1. Go to the map features panel. 2. Tick the paths box, and all paths will be displayed on the map, together with their numbers. 3. Tick the parishes box. 4. Click the path on the map to view path number and parish information. Reporting a path problem You can use the link above the map to report problems encountered on a path to the Public Rights of Way team.
