3 Section Software Applications and Operating Systems - Detail Criteria (a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually. (b) Applications shall not disrupt or disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer. (c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. The focus shall be programmatically exposed so that Assistive Technology can track focus and focus changes. (d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to Assistive Technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text. Supporting Features Remarks and Explanations The user can interact with the print driver using a keyboard. Keyboard controls result in modifications on the screen, which are often textual. The print driver was tested using a screen magnifier, high and low resolution displays, high contrast display options, varying cursor blink rates and widths, and various keyboard accessibility features (including FilterKeys, StickyKeys, and MouseKeys). All of these accessibility features work in tandem with the print driver. The print driver implements standard Windows handling of input focus a dotted box is visible around the item that has focus. The identity, operation, and state of most user interface elements are available to assistive technologies, but there are exceptions. In some cases, labels of control elements are missing or incorrect as read by a screen reader. Some information conveyed by images is not available in text. For example, the information conveyed by the image on the Custom Paper Size dialog is not available textually, but is important to help the user understand what is being set with the spin controls on the dialog.

4 (e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. (f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes. (g) Applications shall not override user selected contrast and color selections and other individual display attributes. (h) When animation is displayed, the information shall be displayable in at least one nonanimated presentation mode at the option of the user. (i) Color coding shall not be used as the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. (j) When a product permits a user to adjust color and contrast settings, a variety of color selections capable of producing a range of contrast levels shall be provided. The textual information presented by the print driver is available to the screen reader. There are, however, some usability issues for screen reader users associated with the way text is presented. For example, the text presented in the Settings Summary dialog is presented using a tree view control, which makes the text difficult for screen reader users to obtain and understand. On the General tab of the Properties dialog, most of the information in the Features group box is not read by the screen reader. However, this appears to be a Windows issue that is not specific to the Ricoh drivers. When the user adjusts the color and contrast in Windows, the selected settings carry over into the print driver. Certain Windows settings, such as font size, are not inherited into the driver application windows, but this appears to be a Windows limitation rather than a problem with the drivers. The only animation in the print driver is in the Updating Now dialog, and it is purely decorative and does not convey any information to the user. The print driver does not use color coding as the only means of conveying information. The print driver does not provide color and contrast adjustments. Color and contrast setting changes resulting from changing the Windows theme are honored in the driver, however. The only flashing or blinking element is the text cursor in the driver. That

6 Section Self-Contained, Closed Products - Detail (a) Self contained products shall be usable by people with disabilities without requiring an end-user to attach Assistive Technology to the product. Personal headsets for private listening are not Assistive Technology. Users without vision cannot utilize the touchscreen display. Most print functions are available from the print drivers, but some copier, scanner, and fax options must be set up through the touchscreen display. Accessibility features include adjustable time-outs, low force paper trays with universal grip, tilting control panel with large fonts, high contrast display, and simple screen touchscreen display option with larger fonts and active surfaces. (b) When a timed response is required, the user shall be alerted and given sufficient time to indicate more time is required. Timed response items are adjustable by the user and can be disabled entirely or set to a long period of time. (c) Where a product utilizes touchscreens or contact-sensitive controls, an input method shall be provided that complies with (k) (1) through (4). All mechanically operable controls and keys are tactilely discernible without activation of the controls and keys. Keys are large and concave to facilitate easy activation for users with limited fine motor control. Controls on the control panel are operable with one hand without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist. Key repeat is supported for some touchscreen controls, primarily menu navigation and slider movement. Key repeat can be disabled, or set to repeat intervals of 500 ms, 1 sec, or 2 sec. The status of all locking or toggle controls is visually discernible. The main power switch and the panel energy saver function are also discernible via sound. The status of other toggle keys is only visually discernible, and not discernible by touch or sound. Note: This item was evaluated for all device controls, as it is believed

(d) When biometric forms of user identification or control are used, an alternative form of identification or activation, which does not require the user to possess particular biological characteristics, shall also be provided. (e) When products provide auditory output, the audio signal shall be provided at a standard signal level through an industry standard connector that will allow for private listening. The product must provide the ability to interrupt, pause, and restart the audio at anytime. (f) When products deliver voice output in a public area, incremental volume control shall be provided with output amplification up to a level of at least 65 db. Where the ambient noise level of the environment is above 45 db, a volume gain of at least 20 db above the ambient level shall be user selectable. A function shall be provided to automatically reset the volume to the default level after every use. (g) Color coding shall not be used as the only means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. (h) When a product permits a user to adjust color and contrast settings, a range of color selections capable of producing a variety of contrast levels shall be provided. The device does not require biometric forms of identification. Primary auditory output is in the form of beeps, which are not essential to the operation of the device, and for which there is no need to interrupt, pause, or restart. The device does not deliver voice output. This device does not rely on the use of color coding as the sole means of conveying information. There are five different color settings for the touchscreen display. When using the Simple Screen mode, users may also choose a high contrast black and white setting. No display contrast adjustment is provided. (i) Products shall be designed to avoid causing the screen to flicker with a frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. 10 Section Functional Performance Criteria - Detail (a) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require user vision shall be provided, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are blind or visually impaired shall be provided. Basic operation of the device is possible without vision, but some options are set up using the touchscreen display, which is inaccessible to users without vision or with very poor vision. Status information is sometimes provided only visually via the touchscreen display. Most aspects of the print driver are accessible through the use of screen reading software, though there are some user interface elements that are not available to a user operating the driver with a screen reader. (b) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require visual acuity greater than 20/70 shall be provided in audio and enlarged print output working together or independently, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are visually impaired shall be provided. The control panel keys and indicators are labeled with large text. The touchscreen display offers a simple screen mode featuring large text, a high contrast color scheme, and larger active areas. The angle of the tilting control panel can be adjusted to improve visibility and reduce glare from overhead lighting. The print driver is compatible with screen magnification software, and most aspects of the print driver software are accessible through use of screen reading software. As with other Windows software applications, the screen resolution can be adjusted to accommodate low vision users. (c) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require user hearing shall be provided, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are deaf or hard of hearing shall be provided The device does not deliver voice output.
