2 Overview Once you have created or duplicated a SCO, you can change the images, text, and links within its pages as well as configure any embedded gadgets. You may also delete all the pages at once, delete a single page, or add a new page. Additionally, you can edit the metadata of a SCO if necessary. NOTES It is important to use the legal or allowable characters for file names in DCAT. Capital and lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores can be used. Do not use asterisks, commas, or any other illegal characters in the file names of assets in DCAT. If you download a SCO to play offline, do not use Chrome as the browser in which to play the SCO offline because playback issues will occur. 2
3 1 Edit a Content Object 1 At the Home screen, click the SCO you would like to edit (or click the button, and then select from the context menu). Shortcut You can simply click the content object to begin editing. More Info To create a new content object, refer to the DCAT Create a Content Object Job Aid. 3
4 2 The Edit screen appears and a... currently checked out message displays beneath the banner. Click the page you would like to edit (or hover your mouse over its name, and then select from the context menu). If you do not see the type of page you want to edit, click the Section drop-down menu, and select the appropriate option: main, header, or footer. Quick Tips To create a new page in the SCO, click the To remove all the pages from the content object, click the To see a full-screen preview of the SCO as it is, click the To rearrange the pages, hover your mouse over the page s name. An icon appears to the left of the name. Click the icon, and then drag the page to the desired position. NOTE You can only check out one SCO at a time. If you try to check out additional SCOs for editing, the following warning message appears: 4
5 3 The Editing Page screen appears. a Hover over the page title until an opaque yellow box appears around it, and then click the box to type a new page title. b Select the gray bar above a gadget to hide it. c b Click the gadget to edit its content. When your mouse passes over a gadget that is showing on the page, an opaque yellow box appears. a Quick Tips Click the button to hide all the gadgets at once. This is a toggle button; click it again to show all gadgets. If you would like to see if there are any hidden gadgets, select the Show Hidden Gadgets check box. c 5
6 4 The Gadget Editing screen appears, defaulting to the General tab. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. The available fields vary depending on the type of gadget selected. a To add an image file to the gadget, click the button next to the Image File text box, browse to an image file, and then select it.* b Type a short description (up to 255 characters) of the image in the Alt Text text box. If the description exceeds 255 characters, use the Long Description text box. The text can be read aloud by screen readers. c Click the SCORM tab. c Quick Tips Hover your mouse over the icons to view a description of the information that should be provided in each field. 7 5 The SCORM tab displays. Click the button to add SCORM metadata. a In the Interaction Description text box, type a description of the question to which the learner is responding. b In the Max-Score text box, type the total number of points the learner can earn for the gadget. If the text box is grayed out, then this value has been predetermined and will be entered for you. c Only L4 gadgets, such as Tile Sort and Drag and Drop, that have multiple correct answers provide the Completion Threshold text box. Type a decimal number between 0 and 1 that represents the portion of the gadget that must be finished in order for the gadget to be marked complete. d To preview the edited gadget prior to saving/updating, click the The preview appears behind the Gadget Editing screen. e To save your changes and close the screen, click the f To save your changes and continue authoring the SCO, click the g To close the Gadget Editing screen without saving any changes, click the a b c d e f g 7

9 Edit Player Options You can only edit player options for Master SCOs. Player changes made to a Master SCO are pushed to its authored SCOs. 1 At the Home screen, click the button, and then select from the context menu. 10 2 The Master SCO is automatically checked out to you. The HTML Player has many options that control runtime behavior. Hover your mouse over the icons next to each option to view a description of what it does or which information should be provided. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. 11 Edit Parameters The Edit Parameters option allows you to author a SCO with various content. For example, a question can appear as 1 + 5, and the next time the SCO is launched, the question may be The contents are evaluated and loaded dynamically at runtime based on conditionals, expressions, and random variables in the authored data. During the authoring, you will enter parameters and a list of rules in the Parameters authoring form. 1 At the Home screen, click the button, and then select from the context menu. 12 2 The SCO is automatically checked out to you. Click the Rules tab to define logic to set parameter values based on a set of rules. This feature is referred to as the Rule Builder. Hover your mouse over the icons next to each option to view a description of what it does or which information should be provided. To save your changes, click the The SCO is automatically checked back in when you click the Quick Tip Hover your mouse over the icons to view a description of the information that should be provided in each field. To close the Parameters screen without saving any changes, click the 12
13 Duplicate a Page 1 To duplicate a page in a SCO, at the Edit screen, hover your mouse over the page name, and then select from the context menu. Quick Tip To rearrange the pages, hover your mouse over the page s name. The icon appears to the left of the name. Click the icon, and then drag the page to the desired position. 13
14 2 The duplicated page is automatically created and added to the end of the list of pages. A Success! Your new page has been saved. confirmation message appears. 3 To change the title of the duplicated page, click the page title. 14
15 4 The Editing Page screen appears. Hover over the page title until an opaque yellow box appears around it, and then click the box. 5 The Styled Text dialog box appears. a In the Text text box, type the new page title over the existing title. b Click the Quick Tip To insert MathML, click the button in the Text toolbar. Be sure to remove any unnecessary text as it will appear in the gadget, and then click the Generate a b 15
16 Delete a Single Page 1 To delete a single page in a SCO, at the Edit screen, hover your mouse over the page name, and then select from the context menu. 2 The Are you sure you want to delete...? warning message appears. Click the button to remove the page. Quick Tip Click the button if you do not want to delete the page from the SCO. 16
17 Add a New Page 1 To add a new page to your SCO, at the Edit screen, click the 2 The Add a Page screen appears and displays page types. To preview a page before adding it, hover your mouse over its name, and then select from the context menu. Quick Tip If you do not need to preview the page, continue to step 4. 17

21 2 Edit Metadata 1 From the Home screen, click the button, and then select from the context menu. Note When you edit the metadata of a Master SCO, it has the same metadata fields as when you first created the Master SCO. Likewise, when you edit the metadata for an authored SCO, you are editing the same fields as when you created the authored SCO, with the exception of the SCO ID, which can only be created once. The example here is an authored SCO. NOTE When you edit metadata, the SCO is checked out to you. You can only check out one SCO at a time. If you try to check out additional SCOs for editing, the following warning message appears: 21
22 2 Modify the Authored SCO Metadata section. You can no longer edit the SCO s ID number after its creation. a Edit the name of the SCO in the Title text box. b Edit the label in the Label text box. c Edit the learning objective in the Learning Objective text box. d Click the Grade drop-down list, and then select one or more grade options. (To select all options, click the Check all link, or to deselect all options, click the Uncheck all link.) e Click the Theme drop-down list, and then select a different theme option as needed. c d a b e 22
23 f Click the Language drop-down list, and then select one or more language options. (To select all options, click the Check all link, or to deselect all options, click the Uncheck all link.) g Type a keyword(s) in the Keywords text box, and then press the Return or Enter key. Repeat for each keyword. h To save the SCO metadata and return to the Home screen, click the A Success! Your SCO has been modified. message will appear. OR To start working on the SCO, click the Quick Tip You could also click the button at the top of the screen when you are done editing metadata. 24 3 Mass State Change Only Lead SCO Editors can apply a mass state change, which moves checked SCOs from their current states to a new state. 1 At the Home screen of your project: a Select the SCOs for which you would like to change the state. b Click the b a 24

Click the x next to a SCO ID to remove that SCO from the list. b At the drop-down menu, select the new SCO state you want the SCOs to be in. c Click the a b c NOTE After you apply the mass state change, a green confirmation message appears stating the number of successful SCO state changes. 25
