1 Spectralink CMS Update Procedure for Release This technical bulletin explains the procedure used to update and deploy the Spectralink CMS for PIVOT to release System Affected Spectralink CMS (Configuration Management System) for PIVOT Description The Spectralink CMS for PIVOT release should be implemented using the procedures detailed in this document for both new and existing deployments of CMS. New CMS Deployments The Spectralink Deployment Guide for 87-Series Wireless Telephones provided step-by-step instructions on how to setup and deploy a new CMS environment. You can locate the deployment guide by visiting the Spectralink Support site for PIVOT at in the Setup & Maintenance section. For all new deployments, you will need to download the VMWare image of the CMS from the Spectralink Support site before beginning the deployment process. Please be sure you are downloading the release version of the CMS and allow sufficient time for the download to complete as the archive file is approximately 2.8GB in size. Existing CMS Deployments For any customer wishing to update their existing CMS deployment to the Release, it is recommended that you deploy a new VM using the Release image available on the Spectralink Support site. The procedure detailed here will assist you in migrating your existing CMS data onto the new CMS image so there is no loss of system configuration data.

2 Note Due to the fact that we are unable to apply the Heartbleed fixes or the database performance improvements to the CMS via a patch means that it is highly recommended that you utilize the new CMS image. You are not required to use the new CMS image to support the Release 1.1 features but you will not gain access to the performance improvements nor the Heartbleed vulnerability fixes. To begin, you will need to obtain both the new CMS VMWare image and the CMS patch from the Spectralink Support site for PIVOT at You will need to apply the patch to your existing CMS deployment in order to allow you to export your configuration data to the new CMS you will setup. After you ve downloaded the two Release files to your local computer, you will need to connect to your CMS server s web interface. Log into the CMS server and navigate to the Server Settings menu on the Home page as shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 1 June

3 On the Server Settings screen, you will need to click on the Update this Software link to expand the upload tool, as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2 Now, click on the Browse button and navigate to the Spectralink CMS Patch archive and select it. Then click the Start Update button to apply the patch. It will take a few minutes for the patch to complete but then a notification will appear on the screen to indicate it has completed successfully. Note You may encounter an error when applying the patch to your CMS indicating Permission Denied. If you encounter this error then you will need to perform a couple of commands via SSH on the CMS command line. Connect to your CMS server using SSH and login using the credentials, root and the password spectralink123. Copy and paste these commands: chown R www-data:www-data /home/thorcm/configmanager chown R www-data:www-data /home/thorcm/uploads With the existing CMS updated to release , you will have access to all of the new features in release , such as Push-To-Talk and Spectralink SAFE features. You also will gain the ability to perform an Import/Export of the CMS configuration data. This is the key component needed for a successful migration to a new CMS VM image. June

4 After your existing CMS is updated we now need to export all of the system configuration information from it for later use. Start by going to Server Settings and then expand Import/Export CMS Data as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 Click on the Green, Export Data button to start the process. This will save an archive file to your local PC that contains all the relevant data necessary to restore your CMS system. This is the file that we will use in the later step after you have setup the new CMS VM image. Note After completing the data export from the old CMS you will want to shut it down to ensure that you will be able to bring the new CMS online using the same IP address as the old CMS system. Setting up the new CMS VM The Spectralink Deployment Guide for 87-Series Wireless Telephones provided step-by-step instructions on how to setup and deploy a new CMS environment. You can locate the deployment guide by visiting the Spectralink Support site for PIVOT at in the Setup & Maintenance section. 5 Restoring prior CMS data With the new CMS VM image deployed, you now need to reload your configuration data that we exported from the previous CMS. This process requires you to go to the same location as used to export the data, Server Settings, and expand the Import/Export CMS Data line. This time though, you will click the Browse button and navigate to and select the CMS archive data file that you exported earlier. Once selected, click the Red, Import Data button and wait for it to complete the import. Once finished, you can decommission the old CMS system and you will be fully ready to start using the new CMS server. June
