3 Charting Tool: Add multiple measures to charts It is now possible to create multi-measure charts in the Charting tool or create charts with multiple measures from a Cube. In initial releases of the new Charting tool you could only have one measure on a chart. Now on 1D charts you can have multiple measures, provided that the units of the measures can be split onto the two axes. A new Multi chart menu option becomes available once multiple measures are added to a chart. An example of adding an additional measure would be adding Professional Contacts to understand the count of contacts compared to the count of sites. You can do this by leveraging the System Table (located at the bottom of your System Explorer), select the additional measure you want to view, in this example, Professional Contacts Roles, and drag it to the Measures drop zone on the chart.
4 To make this really interesting, you might want to add Average Number of Employees Total. Drag the Employees Total variable over to the Measures bar on the right then click the drop down arrow and select Mean. Note: You will get a yellow outlined box on the Measures bar if the variable or table is able to be added as a measure. Also note that multiple tables would need to be on the same bar, in our example, the left bar. Any other measures (like Employees) would need to be placed on the other Measures bar in our example, the right measure. Below you will see two yellow outlined boxes because I could place Emp Total on the right hand Measures bar or the Dimensions bar.
5 Here s the multiple measures chart showing, Sites, Professional Contacts Roles and Mean Employees Total. The drop down menu on the Multi Chart tool allows you to change the following settings: Orientation (vertical, horizontal) Primary and secondary axis chart types (column, point, line) Column combinations (clustered, stacked, stacked 100%)
6 Click the drop down arrow on the Multi-Chart icon to get to this pop up box. You can easily switch between multi measure charts and other chart types by clicking on the options in the Charts menu, such as Column, Bar, Pie etc. Charting Tool: Additional enhancements to charts Add value and percentage labels to your charts using the new options available in the Charts menu. This is available on the multi measure charts or a single measure charts.

8 An underlying table switch is found in the bottom left of the charting window next to the count. You can use this to quickly change your table. This is now required as you may have many tables displayed on a chart. You can change the tables for each of the variables on the measures axes by clicking on each variable individually. A clear legend makes it easy to identify the multiple measures and variables being displayed the chart. You can quickly change the colors of the chart by clicking on the legend. Once both axes have been used the application will prevent you from adding a different type of variable. You will need to clear an axis and then add the new variable. Switch the data table for a variable by clicking on the arrow New drop panel allowing multiple measures These tables are the same units (count of records) so can occupy the same axis Change chart colors in the legend area Switch the underlying chart data table This axis is using currency. The chart will now prevent you from adding another variable type, such as numeric
9 Cubes containing multiple measures can now be converted into a multi measure chart by dragging and dropping the Charting tool from the Toolbox menu onto the Cube. Data Grids: New scatter plot visualization A new scatter chart visualization has been added to the Data Grid Tool allowing two numeric columns to be put onto a scatter plot so that relationships between them can be explored. In the example below a data grid has a selector column (Income) and four different numeric values. On the right-hand side there are now tabs for Grid and Chart. The Chart tab will only become available when the data in the grid is suitable to be plotted.
10 Switching to the chart view shows a scatter plot where you can choose the numeric variables to plot on the horizontal and vertical axes. You can choose the selector variable to use which will color the dots on the chart. Clicking on the labels in the legend for the selector variable will highlight the points for that selector variable in the chart. Checkboxes are on the bottom right-hand side to allow users to change the scale of the axes and display trend-lines on the chart. Note: Your visualization will be limited by the number of rows you are browsing.
11 Cubes: Extended calculation measures The Cube tool allows you to perform simple calculations on the data within your cube. This feature has been extended to include six new functions from within the calculated measures drop down list. The functions are: Rank, Percentile, Period to date, Running, Rolling and Comparison. Depending on the function you choose you will have different choices to make to set up the calculation. All functions operate on a single measure and work on or across a single dimension. Rank - will sort and rank the values across a single dimension. For example, which is my most popular destination? Percentile - as per rank, but will return a percentage as to what percentage of the values are the same or lower than this in the list Period To Date - only works on a date dimension to allow calculations on a date period. For example, what is my total number of customers in the year to date? Running - to work out a running value across a dimension. For example, what is the running average number of people? Rolling - to work out a rolling calculation across a dimension. For example, what is the rolling average number of customers over the last 3 quarters for each destination? Comparison - to allow a calculation to a relative cell on this dimension. For non-date dimensions this can be to a relative number cell before/after this one. For date dimensions this can be specified in terms of a date periods to allow period comparisons, such as difference from previous year. Three ways of expressing this comparison are given - difference, ratio or percent difference.
12 Gains Table: Columns and type defaults The Gains Table columns and type can now be defined using the Tools/Options menu. The table type (segment/cumulative) and the columns to be displayed in a model report can be set within Tools/Options as defaults, so that you always see the information you need.
13 Selections: Import text selection files for speedier text selections Text selections can now use a list of values from a file, rather than a list pasted in by the user. This new functionality references the file from within the selection, so if the contents of the underlying file are changed, then the records that are selected will also change. The management of selections containing large numbers of values can therefore be made simpler and speedier. To reference a file simply click on the right-most Import button. Then choose the text file that you want to use from your Market Insight folders. Note that the file must be uploaded to the Market Insight folders (Public or Private) and cannot be referenced directly from your computer. This ensures that Market Insight can locate and reference the file again when the selection is next run.
