1 WHAT S NEW IN CHECKPOINT This document covers the most recent Checkpoint enhancements as of September 15, STATE & LOCAL SALES TAXABILITY MATRIX: The new Sales Taxability Matrix has been added to the Sales and Tax Reporters on Checkpoint. It will allow you to efficiently determine the exempt or taxable sales and use tax status for over 2000 specific product categories for each state. The Sales Taxability Matrix allows you to quickly identify the appropriate sales and use tax exempt or taxable status for over 2000 products. You also have the option to search by a single state or multiple states to efficiently accommodate a variety of requirements. This new addition also lets you search efficiently, by industry standard, product categories or commodity codes to quickly identify the products that you need.you can also export or print the derived search results to easily share this information with others for their use or analysis. This feature also helps you in keeping track of any changes in the Taxable or Exempt statuses that have occurred in the last month, which will be highlighted to assure that nothing is missed. Additionally this feature also helps you to use the taxability status of individual product to validate the data in point of sale and other in-house systems. The Sales Taxability Matrix helps you keep track of taxability status as statuses of many products change at a detailed, product segment level. This feature enables you to reduce the risk of paying heavy penalties in case of failure to levy and collect accurate sales tax, by quickly confirming the status of specific products at the segment level in each state Thomson Reuters/Tax & Accounting. 2 The Sales Taxability Matrix can be accessed through the Search tab (or the State Search Wizard on the home page). Click Search Multiple Sources in the left navigation bar. Select Sales Taxability Matrix in the right hand column under Primary Source Materials. Enter your Key Words and click Search.

4 TAX PLANNING FOR FAMILY WEALTH TRANSFERS AT DEATH: ANALYSIS WITH FORMS: Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers at Death: Analysis with Forms provides a detailed discussion and analysis of the special income, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues and strategies concerning the transmission of an individual's or family's assets at death. This treatise contains over 300 sample wills, trusts, and client explanation letters for use in subscriber s estate planning practice and also provides you with extensive, complete, and thorough analysis of all the estate, generation-skipping, gift, and income tax rules related to testamentary transfers (transfers occurring at death), along with numerous strategies for decreasing the impact of these taxes, and also includes over 300 practice aids (sample wills, trusts, and client letters) for implementing these strategies. Segmenting active and expired credits will save you research time by allowing you direct access to what is needed. Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers at Death: Analysis with Forms is the companion treatise of Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers during Life: Analysis with Forms. This new treatise addresses how transfers at death can save more taxes, and provides you with information and guidance on planning and drafting wills and revocable trusts to implement marital deduction and generation-skipping transfer tax planning. Additionally, it gives you information on determining when and how best to use portability of a deceased spouse s unused exemption amount and structuring the most appropriate forms of joint property ownership to leverage the many benefits of common ownership. Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers At Death: Analysis With Forms can be found on the Estate Planning Search page under Editorial Materials/WG&L Treatises.

5 You can also access the Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers At Death: Analysis With Forms from the Table of Contents tab - Checkpoint Contents > Estate Planning Library > WG&L Estate Planning Treatises.

6 CHECKPOINT CATALYST: With enhancements made to Checkpoint Catalyst, you now have the option of including the full Checkpoint Catalyst topic or a selection of one or more subtopics (up to 50 subtopics)when you choose the print, export or options. These options are available when you use the Action Menu icon in the Table of Contents and the Print/Export/ icons in the full topic document view. You can still use the Printer icon and the Ctrl+Click functionality in the Table of Contents for subtopics. In addition, you can continue to print single subtopics from the document view which would help you in streamlining information sharing. The Action Menu will also allow you to get TOC Permalinks for Checkpoint Catalyst topics. The TOC Permalink is a Checkpoint feature that lets you generate a permanent link to specific content in the Table of Contents facilitating effective information sharing. You also have the option to get a Document Permalink for subtopics when using the subtopic document view. Through the Action Menu icon you can create Permalinks, Print, Export and a full Checkpoint Catalyst topic or a selection of one or more subtopics.

7 You can still Ctrl+Click the printer icon to print topics.

8 GAAP CRITICAL ISSUES SERIES: With enhancements made to GAAP CIS, you can now choose to Print, Export or an entire GAAP CIS title or a selection of one or more documents within GAAP CIS. You have the option to select a maximum of 50 individual documents from within GAAP CIS, which is an increase from the 15 documents limit in the earlier version. You can choose these options when using the Action Menu in the Table of Contents. Previously, to print multiple documents from a GAAP CIS title you would have had to expand the title in the TOC and then Ctrl+Click the printer icon next to each topic. However, you can still use the printer icon in the Table of Contents for documents and the Ctrl+Click functionality which was available previously. These enhancements made to GAAP CIS, will help you in exporting data easily so that you work more comfortably and efficiently.

9 Using the Action Menu you can now create Permalinks, Print, Export and GAAP CIS titles. When you choose to print, export or a GAAP CIS title, you will be presented with the option of including all documents in the title or a selection of one or more documents.

10 INTERACTIVE DECISION TOOLS: The Interactive Decision Tool has newly been added to the Search tab and Table of Contents, so that you can access it conveniently, no matter which workflow you are using. While in the earlier version, you would have to necessarily access it from the Tools tab, with this enhancement you can readily access the interactive decision tools from the search tab as well the table of contents. Since June 2014 you were able to access the additional version of the Interactive Decision Tool using the Tools tab.

13 STATE AND LOCAL SEARCH WIZARD: The Rulings and Official Materials document types under Search tab have been combined to enhance and simplify functionality, so that you can now find search results from each of these document types easily. This combination search will eliminate the possibility of you missing out on any search results that could fall in either of these document categories. Although the search results will display both categories of the document types in a single search result, you can easily identify both categories of document types within the search results as these will be clearly demarcated to avoid any confusion. However, when using this functionality, please note that the search results will not display rulings for twenty eight states and they are - AK, AR, CO, DC, GA, ID, IA, ME, MD, MN, MS, MT, NJ, NC, NV, NM, ND, OK, OH, OR, PA, SD, TX, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY. So, in order to ensure that nothing is left out, the tax type search option will be labeled as Rulings & Official Materials for every state search.

14 ACTION MENU AND TOC PERMALINKS: The enhancements made to the Table of Contents will now let you create a permalink via the new Action Menu icon. In the enhanced Table of Contents, you can access the Action Menu, which will appear to the right side of the TOC node that you hover over. For most of the content on Checkpoint, you will be able to access and add Permalinks by clicking on the Action Menu, while for other content such as GAAP CIS and Checkpoint Catalyst you can also access other options such as Print, and Export in the Action Menu. To get a Permalink navigate to the desired node in the Table of Contents. Hover over the node with your cursor and the Action Menu icon is displayed to the right of the title. Click on the Action Menu icon and select Permalink. A pop-up is displayed and from here you can copy the Permalink URL.

15 EMBEDDED NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS: The Embedded Notes and Highlighting feature will give you the option of highlighting text and adding notes with one click. With this enhancement, you can simply highlight the desired text in a particular document and add notes within the document, by selecting the text and clicking on the Highlight and Add Note option from the pop-up menu. Highlight the desired text and select Highlight & Add Note from the Selected Text Option menu.

16 INTUITVE SEARCH: Following the enhancements made to Checkpoint, the Best section functionality has been added to Intuitive Search. Based on your search parameters, this feature will determine those sections in the resulting documents that are most relevant to your research and highlight them for your ease of use. The search engine flags these sections as the Best Sections which are highlighted in green text. However, you can utilize this functionality only when using the Intuitive Search as your preferred search method. When using the Intuitive Search the Navigate By default will be set to Best. This enhancement to Intuitive Search will provide you with a way to quickly navigate through the most relevant sections in the documents that appear in the search results. In addition, you can readily identify the most relevant sources and documents as they will be marked using green and yellow stars, respectively. The Best sections are highlighted in green text.

18 NAVIGATION FOR AFFORDABLE CARE ACT TOOLS: There is a minor change to the way you access the ACA Decision Support Tool through Checkpoint. There is no change to the ACA Decision Support Tool itself or your subscription terms. On the Checkpoint Tools Tab, the link to the ACA Decision Support Tool will appear within a folder titled Affordable Care Act Tools. You will need to click the Affordable Care Act Tools link to see the link to the ACA Decision Support Tool. 20 PRINT, EXPORT AND The Print, Export and features within Checkpoint have been enhanced to add greater functionality, ease of use to subscribers, to support new content types and to provide the technical infrastructure needed to complete additional output capabilities. The resulting enhanced controls will be available for your usage under Options as well as the Document Options icon. These features will provide you with greater control over the format of the output, user notes and highlighting. You can access the Display, print, Export and features by clicking either on the Document options icon in the document toolbar or on the main Options icon located on the top header. The enhanced controls are displayed under the Document Options icon. Four tabs are visible on the Document Options dialogue: Display, Print, Export and .
