Overview Learn Saas with the Ultra Experience Voluntary Product Accessibility Template Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications Functional Performance Criteria Information, Documentation and Support The information contained within this Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is the result of a third-party performing an audit using Job Access with Speech (JAWS) 17 in the Firefox browser and VoiceOver OSX with the Safari browser. The audit tested the compliance of Learn Saas with the Ultra Experience against the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as Amended The purpose of the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template is to assist Federal contracting officials in making preliminary assessments regarding the availability of commercial electronic and information technology products and services with features that support accessibility. It is assumed that offerers will provide additional contact information to facilitate more detailed inquiries. Core issues identified in this VPAT are: ARIA roles, states, and properties are not used in a valid manner, which can result in unpredictable AT behavior; custom controls that are not identified correctly to users; and functions that are not accessible via the keyboard alone. The first table of the report provides a summary view of the Section 508 Standards. The subsequent tables provide more detailed views of each subsection. There are three columns in each table. Column one of the Summary Table describes the subsections of Subparts B and C of the Standards. The second column describes the supporting features of the product or refers you to the corresponding detailed table, e.g., equivalent facilitation." The third column contains any additional remarks and explanations regarding the product. In the subsequent tables, the first column contains the lettered paragraphs of the subsections. The second column describes the supporting features of the product with regard to that paragraph. The third column contains any additional remarks and explanations regarding the product. 3 Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications (a) A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content). Experience web application does use alternative text for most images and non-text elements. However, a rating of has been given for the following reasons: The divider icons in the Classic view and the expand/collapse chevron images associated with folders do not have unique names. On the Assignment page, content that is not visible on the page is rendered to screen reader users throughout the application. The Delete icon, which is part of the Delete button to remove a conversation, is labeled improperly, reading as divider menu option. When loading a page, an error message, "alert {{ red info }}", is read to the screen reader and then a repeated "alert" statement. This content is not rendered visually and occurs while a loading animation on screen. On the Convert Course dialog and the New Discussion page, the images used do not contain alternative text. On the Discussion and Conversation dialogs, the student image does not contain a valid role or text description. On the Classic Course Content page, multiple double arrow image links are sales@level.com Page 3 of 13
not visible, but still rendered by assistive technology. On the Calendar page, although aria-labels have been used to describe the date, the labels are pulling in the previous day s date value. (b) Equivalent alternatives for any multimedia presentation shall be synchronized with the presentation. Screen reader users navigating the Add content options, Add Item, and Add Calculation, also hear the text Add Media and File, which is not visible on the page. contain multimedia presentations. However, a rating of has been given for the following reason: (c) Web pages shall be designed so that all information conveyed with color is also available without color, for example from context or markup. (d) Documents shall be organized so they are readable without requiring an associated style sheet. Minor Minor It is the responsibility of content creators to ensure that multimedia content added to the Learn Saas with the Ultra Experience environment is accessible. Experience web application for the most part, does not exclusively use color to convey information. However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reason: On the Edit Contact Info dialog, the selected date in the calendar is indicated solely through the use of color. Experience web application is readable, for the most part, without requiring an associated style sheet sales@level.com Page 4 of 13
However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reason: (e) Redundant text links shall be provided for each active region of a server-side image map. On the Partner Tool and Classic Course Content page, implicit headings should be assigned appropriate values of heading level to make navigation easier. contain server-side image maps. (f) Client-side image maps shall be provided instead of serverside image maps except where the regions cannot be defined with an available geometric shape. (g) Row and column headers shall be identified for data tables. Minor contain client-side image maps. Experience web application identifies table headers for the most part. However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reason: (h) Markup shall be used to associate data cells and header cells for data tables that have two or more logical levels of row or column headers. Minor In the Month View of the Calendar, the table header content is not associated to the data and there are several nested data tables. JAWS for Windows classifies the table as a layout table, meaning that JAWS users are unable to use table navigation commands to understand the data. Experience web application does associate table and header cells. However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reason: In the Month View of the Calendar the table header content is not associated to the data, and there are sales@level.com Page 5 of 13
(i) Frames shall be titled with text that facilitates frame identification and navigation (j) Pages shall be designed to avoid causing the screen to flicker with a frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. (k) A text-only page, with equivalent information or functionality, shall be provided to make a web site comply with the provisions of this part, when compliance cannot be accomplished in any other way. The content of the text-only page shall be updated whenever the primary page changes. (l) When pages utilize scripting languages to display content, or to create interface elements, the information provided by the script shall be identified with functional text that can be read by Assistive Technology. several nested data tables. JAWS for Windows classifies the table as a layout table, meaning that JAWS users are unable to use table navigation commands to understand the data. contain frames. cause the page to flicker with a frequency greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. contain a text-only page. Experience web application scripting languages display content and create interface elements that contains functional text that is read by assistive technologies. However, a rating of has been given for the following reasons: On pages that allow comments, some actionable elements are not in the tab order and can only be activated via mouse input: - "Responses with most replies" links - "Top Participant" links - "Students who haven't participated" links are some examples. On the Content Market/Institution Tools page, the courses that are listed underneath "Used in this sales@level.com Page 6 of 13
course" do not receive keyboard focus. On the Gradebook Calculation page, after adding a value to a calculation it is not possible to focus the value edit field using the keyboard. On the Course Activity Stream, there is no aria-controls property on the Join Session button found in the Details & Actions section that associates the button to the session menu. Without this property, some assistive technologies may not interact as expected with the control. On the Course Activity Stream, the Class Conversation dialog has a role of group which has been placed on the div elements that are part of each conversation. The Course open control is rendered to screen reader users as "menu button". However, when activated it opens a dialog window. On the Course Content page, an aria-expanded attribute has been used on the ul elements that contain the Create, Upload, and Content Market controls. As there is no role associated with the ul element, some assistive technologies not be able to interact with these elements as expected. In the Edit Contact Info dialog, several of the correctly coded label elements also contain aria-label attributes, which can create ambiguity or duplication. On the Submission Grading page, the button used to display the list of group members contains an aria sales@level.com Page 7 of 13
controls attribute that is not associated with a valid id attribute, which means the controls will not have a valid association. (m) When a web page requires that an applet, plug-in or other application be present on the client system to interpret page content, the page must provide a link to a plug-in or applet that complies with (a) through (l). (n) When electronic forms are designed to be completed online, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues. Minor On the Calendar, The Add Event, Edit Course Schedule, and Add Office Hours controls have a role of button. However, they have been structured in an unordered list element with a role of menu. Experience does not require applets, plug-ins, or other applications to be present to interpret page content. Experience web application provides access to information necessary for people using assistive technologies to complete form field elements. However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reasons: On the Gradebook Settings page, some edit fields have placeholder values are being solely utilized to explain the purpose of an input field, rather than a visual label. On the Gradebook Settings page, although placeholder attributes have been used for the Type A category name, Notation, and Type A description form fields, this type of attribute is not always rendered by assistive technologies. On the Gradebook Settings page, the icon used to cancel adding a category and adding a notation does not have a text description sales@level.com Page 8 of 13
Additionally, none of the edit fields in the Grade Value column in the Grading Schema have associated labels. On the Goals and Standards page, multiple "Show more/less" and "Delete" buttons share the same label of divider menu option. (o) A method shall be provided that permits users to skip repetitive navigation links. Minor On the Test Submission page, the text Post grades has been applied to all of the buttons. Experience web application provides methods for skipping repetitive links. (p) When a timed response is required, the user shall be alerted and given sufficient time to indicate more time is required. However, a rating of Minor has been given for the following reason: On the Grid view page of the Gradebook, the Skip to Main Content link does not work. require a timed response. However, a rating of has been given for the following reason: As it is the responsibility of content creators to ensure that tests or other activities requiring timed responses in the Learn environment are accessible. Note to : The Board interprets paragraphs (a) through (k) of this section as consistent with the following priority 1 Checkpoints of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0) (May ) published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium: Paragraph (a) - 1.1, (b) - 1.4, (c) - 2.1, (d) - 6.1, (e) - 1.2, (f) - 9.1, (g) - 5.1, (h) - 5.2, (i) , (j) - 7.1, (k) sales@level.com Page 9 of 13
Functional Performance Criteria (a) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require user vision shall be provided, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are blind or visually impaired shall be provided. Experience does provide some support access for users who are blind or who use assistive technologies, such as screen readers. However, a rating of has been given for the following reasons: As listed in (a), (h), and (n), when information about user interface elements is not available to assistive technologies, these users may not be able to interact appropriately with the controls. The accessibility issues listed in (l) and (o) affect people who are blind or visually impaired because these users navigate through the application exclusively with the keyboard. Additionally, there are issues throughout the application where elements, like headings, lists, and layout tables, have been used for visual display instead of providing page structure. This can make navigating content challenging for blind users. Similarly, keyboard focus is placed on several inactive elements in the application causing users to perform extra keystrokes when trying to activate content. The rich text editors that have been used on pages like Assignments can be used with assistive technologies, however, the formatting functions are not accessible with the keyboard sales@level.com Page 10 of 13
(b) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require visual acuity greater than 20/70 shall be provided in audio and enlarged print output working together or independently, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are visually impaired shall be provided. (c) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require user hearing shall be provided, or support for Assistive Technology used by people who are deaf or hard of hearing shall be provided. (d) Where audio information is important for the use of a product, at least one mode of operation and information retrieval shall be provided in an enhanced auditory fashion, or support for assistive hearing devices shall be provided. (e) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require user speech shall be provided, or support for Assistive Technology used by people with disabilities shall be provided. Finally, it is important to note that content creators have the ability to upload images, audio, and multimedia content to the application that may be inaccessible to some users. Experience web application provides support for users who have a visual acuity greater than 20/70 or visually impaired. However, a rating of has been given for the following reason: As listed in (c), the sole use of color to indicate the current date means the date may be inaccessible to some users. Experience does not natively contain audio requiring user hearing. However, a rating of has been given as content creators have the ability to upload audio and multimedia content to the application that may be inaccessible to some users. Experience does not natively contain audio requiring user hearing. However, a rating of has been given as content creators have the ability to upload audio and multimedia content to the application that may be inaccessible to some users. Experience does not require speech for operation and information retrieval sales@level.com Page 11 of 13
(f) At least one mode of operation and information retrieval that does not require fine motor control or simultaneous actions and that is operable with limited reach and strength shall be provided. Experience functionality for the most part can be accessed with the keyboard. However, a rating of has been given due to the issues noted in (l) such as elements not receiving keyboard focus. Some actionable elements are not in the tab order and can only be activated via mouse input. Furthermore, some controls like the Edit Profile button, have title attributes alone that may prevent assistive technologies from accurately identifying the purpose of these elements. Lastly, keyboard focus is placed on several inactive elements in the application causing AT users to perform extra keystrokes when trying to activate content. It is important to note that content creators have the ability to upload audio and multimedia content to the application that may be inaccessible to some users Information, Documentation and Support (a) Product support documentation provided to endusers shall be made available in alternate formats upon request, at no additional charge (b) End-users shall have access to a description of the Applicable Not Tested Applicable Not Tested sales@level.com Page 12 of 13
