1 HTML Syllabus Instructor: TBD Course Description This course teaches participants the principles and concepts of designing and creating WEB pages in a HTML format. The course is designed to expose participants to the construct of HTML tags, the attribute modification of HTML tags, the incorporation of CSS tags, CSS pseudo tags, dynamic effects using styles through class assignments. Additionally, the course will teach participants the utilization of graphics and dynamic graphics used in Web design. Also included will be content presentation control via HTML tables, HTML layers and HTML frames. The course will explore the requirements, tools and controls used in WEB page development by lecture, in-class practical exercises and home study exercises. Requirements This course is offered online on a non-credit basis and as it is open to the general public, there are no prerequisites. Each participant upon completion will receive a non-degree certificate indicating the newly acquired skills. Evaluation Participants will complete tasks and projects designed to give a very clear and practical understanding of the concepts and lessons in the course. Participants can monitor their progress in the grading portal. A grade of COMPLETE will be credited after completion of assigned tasks and projects. It is recommended that participants complete all assignments by the due date to ensure your time is well spent and you maximize your signup fee. Please read the TERMS on the website to be clear.

2 LESSONS 1: Creating an HTML Document This lesson aims to teach the following: HTML Document Structure 1. Syntax 2. HTML page structure 3. Meta Tags 4. Viewing source code examples 5. Overview of Browsers/Previewing code It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able to lay out simple to complex HTML web pages using correct and appropriate HTML tags such as <head>; <title> and <body> with codes and syntax. Participants will learn how to use a Web browser to preview web pages and view source code of web pages. LESSON 2: Working with Text 1. Headings 2. Paragraphs 3. Using the <font> tag 4. Applying Styles 5. Character entities 6. Document Margins 7. Creating Bullet Lists Ordered; Unordered and Definition lists It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able improve upon the design of a simple to complex HTML web page using Headings, Paragraphs, colors, font tags, bullets and styles. LESSON 3: Creating Bullet Lists 1. List tags - <li> 2. Number lists tags - <ol> 3. Alphabet list tags - <ol type="a"> 4. Roman list tags - <ol type="i"> 5. Arabic Numeral list tags - <ol type="1"> It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able make a numbered list of items and modify the listings using Arabic numerals, Roman numerals and alphabets.

3 LESSON 4: Working With Images 1. Tags; properties 2. Inserting images 3. Image Alignment 4. Saving an image from a website 5. Viewing Images (Firefox) 6. Using/Saving GIF images (for simple animations/images with basic colors) 7. Using JPEG images (for complex color schemes/ clearer output) It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able use images to enhance a HTML web page. Participants will learn how to create simple animations and image rollovers. Participants will also understand the uses differences between certain image files including JPEG and GIF on web pages. LESSON 5: Hyperlinks 1. How to define Hyperlinks 2. How to define Pathnames 3. How to define Named Anchors As a result of the Expectations for this lesson, participants will learn how to create hyperlinks (clickable links) using appropriate HTML tags to target files on relative or absolute paths. This lesson will also teach participants how to create named anchors which are very useful for navigating extremely lengthy single web pages. LESSON 6: Working with Forms 1. Form 2. Syntax 3. Properties Action, Method 4. Defining Form Elements 5. Text Fields 6. Password Fields 7. Text Areas 8. Check Boxes/Radio Buttons 9. Select Lists 10. File Fields 11. Submit/Reset Buttons

4 12. Using Graphic Images for Submit Buttons 13. Hidden Fields 14. Using Field Sets 15. Using Tables to organize forms 16. Simple submission script It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able to create a simple HTML form and include text fields, password fields, radio buttons and check boxes. Participants will also be able to use tables from the previous lesson to properly organize form elements. This lesson will also expose participants to form submission using the form action and methods (GET; POST) to submit form data to a Web server. LESSON 7: Building HTML Tables 1. Defining Tables 2. Understanding the Syntax & Properties of Tables 3. Creating Borders 4. Spanning Columns/Rows 5. Alignments 6. Table Background Properties 7. Nesting Tables 8. Organizing Tables It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able to create more complex lay outs for web pages using HTML tables and table properties. Participants will understand the various tags and syntax used to define and create tables. Participants will be able to organize an entire web page in an orderly fashion with borderless tables. LESSON 8: Working With iframes 1. Defining Frameset Documents 2. Specify Frame Dimensions 3. Specify Border Properties 4. Control Frames Margins and Scroll Bars 5. Nest Framesets 6. Target Frames 7. Work with Inline Frames It is expected that participants who complete this lesson will be able to create an iframes for dividing the browser window into separate panes. Each of these are called panes. Participants

5 will be able to create links on one part of the page and have the target document open up on another part of the same page. *The contents of this Syllabus are subject to change. Some lessons may be combined, amended or expanded if necessary.
