1 PowerPoint 2010 Project Four Assignment Sheet In this project you will create a question and answer PowerPoint presentation in a game format to review and reinforce curriculum concepts. The presentation will consist of a title slide, a game board slide, twenty-five question slides, twenty-five answer slides, a surprise slide for earning additional points, and slides for a final category, challenge question, and challenge answer. The presentation will consist of fifty-six slides. In this project you will be introduced to these new steps: inserting a table (pp ) inserting a hyperlink (pp ) changing the color of hyperlinks and followed hyperlinks (pp ) organizing slides into sections (pp ) Getting Started 1. Decide on five question categories and create five questions and answers for each category. You will have a total of twenty-five questions and answers. 2. Create a challenge question and answer for the surprise slide. Slide One: Title Slide 3. Open PowerPoint Click in the Title text placeholder and enter the title of your presentation (e.g. Jeopardy Game). Click in the Subtitle text placeholder and type your name. 5. Using what you have learned in previous projects, create the title slide. Use Slide Layout, SmartArt, WordArt, clip art and/or other formatting features to make the slide engaging. 6. Click the Design tab on the Ribbon. In the Themes group move the pointer over the Design themes. Click the More button in the Themes group for additional options. Click a Theme. (Review pp in the text.) 7. Click the Save button on the Quick Access toolbar or press Ctrl+S. Slide Two: Game Board Changing the Background to the Game Board Slide (Refer to the Game Board Slide Design example at the end of this document.) Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
2 8. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Click the New Slide list arrow and select the Title and Content Layout. Type the topic or subject covered in the game as a title at the top of the slide (i.e. Historical Figures). 9. Click the Design tab on the Ribbon. Place a checkmark next to Hide Background Graphics in the Background group. 10. Type the subject or topic of the game in the Title text placeholder (i.e. Lewis and Clark Expedition). Leave space at the far right for a small symbol or clip art image to be added later. 11. Press Ctrl+S to save. Inserting a Table for the Game Board Slide (pp ) 12. In the Content placeholder on Slide Two, click the Insert Table icon. Select 5 columns and 6 rows. Click OK. 13. Click once on the table and point to the bottom center sizing handle. Drag the sizing handle until the table fills the available space on the slide. Click the Table Tools Design tab on the Ribbon and select a style in the Table Styles group. Click the More button to view more options. 14. Highlight all of the cells in the table by dragging from the top left cell through the bottom right cell. Click the Table Tools Layout tab on the Ribbon. Click Center and Center Vertically in the Alignment group. 15. Highlight the cells in the top row only. Click the Home tab on the Ribbon. Click a font, font size, and font color for the game categories. Highlight all the cells in the five bottom rows. Click the Home tab. Click a font, font size, and font color for the point values. The font size should be quite large for the game point values. 16. Enter the category names in the top row. Click in the first cell of the second row. Click the Insert tab and select Text Box. Click in the cell and enter the point value ($) for the first cell. Click in the first cell in the second row. Click the Insert tab and select Text Box to enter the point value for the second cell. Continue this process until all 25 point values have been entered. 17. Press Ctrl+S to save. Question and Answer Slides Creating the Question Slide (Refer to the Question Slide example at the end of this document.) 18. Click the Home tab. Click New Slide in the Slides group. Click the Slide Layout list arrow and click the Title Only slide layout. Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
3 19. Click the View tab and click Slide Master in the Master Views group. Click the Title Only slide layout. Optional: If you would like to change the background color, click the Background Styles list arrow in the Background group and select Format Background. Choose a color for your Question and Answer slides. (Review pp ) 20. Delete all of the placeholders on the slide by clicking on the border of a placeholder and pressing the Delete key. 21. To change the font, font size, font color, and alignment options for the questions and answers, select the text in the Title text placeholder. Click the Home button on the Ribbon and make the changes. The Title text placeholder can also be moved by dragging the border of the placeholder. 22. Close the Master View by clicking the Close Master View button in the Close group or by clicking the Normal button on the status bar. (Review pp ) 23. Click in the Title text placeholder and type the first question. Note: You can make revisions to the changes in the Slide Master by clicking the View tab and clicking Slide Master in the Master Views group. For example: If you want the font to be larger or the text placeholder to be lower on the slide. 24. Press Ctrl+S to save. Creating the Answer Slide (Refer to the Answer slide example at the end of this document.) 25. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group and click the Title only slide. Click in the Title text placeholder and type the answer to the first question. 26. Click the Insert tab. In the Text group click Text Box. Drag a text box in the lower righthand corner of the slide. Type the point value for this question. To make changes to the font, font size, and font color, select the point value text, click the Home tab and make the changes in the Font group. The font size should be large for easy viewing of the point value. 27. Press Ctrl+S to save. Organizing Slides into Sections (pp ) 28. In Normal view or Slide Sorter view, right-click between Slides 2 and 3 and select Add Section. 29. Right-click the Untitled Section marker and select Rename Section. Name the section Point Questions. Click Rename. Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
4 30. Right-click between the last slide of the point questions and the first slide of the 200 point questions. Select Add Section. Right-click the Untitled Section marker and select Rename Section. Name the section 200 Point Questions. Click Rename. 31. Follow the above instructions so that you have section headers for the 300, 400, and 500 point questions. 32. Add a section header for the Final Jeopardy question and answer. Adding Action Buttons (pp ) 33. Click the Insert tab. Click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group. In the Action Buttons section, select the shape you want to add. Drag diagonally down and to the right to draw the shape for the button. 34. When the Action Settings dialog box opens, click the Hyperlink To list arrow, and click Slide. Choose Slide 2. Click OK. Click OK again. Note: When this shape is clicked, it will return to the game board (Slide 2). 35. To change the colors of an action button, click on the action button. Click the Drawing Tools Format tab and click the Shape Fill list arrow and the Shape Outline list arrow in the Shape Styles group to change the color and outline of the action button. Note: To make changes to the action of the action button, click on the action button, click the Insert tab and click Action in the Links group. 36. Press Ctrl+S to save. Remaining Question and Answer Slides 37. Click on Slide 3 (the Question One slide). Hold down the [Shift] key, and click on Slide 4. This will select the two slides. 38. Click the Home tab. Click Copy in the Clipboard group. Click after the last slide in the Slides tab. Note: A horizontal line will appear below the last slide. Click Paste in the Clipboard group. This will duplicate the two slides to make it easier to type the next question and answer without having to reformat the text boxes. The only changes that will need to be made will be to type a new question on Slide 5 and a new answer and point value on Slide 6. The action button will not require any changes. 39. Continue this process until all twenty five questions and answers have been added to the presentation. 40. Press Ctrl+S to save. Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
5 Adding Hyperlinks on the Game Board Slide (pp ) 41. Click on Slide 2 (the Game Board slide). Note: To designate which point values have been previously selected when playing the game, it will be necessary to change the hyperlink color of the point values. Changing the Color of Hyperlinks and Followed Hyperlinks (pp ) 42. Click the Design tab. In the Themes group click the Colors list arrow and click Create New Theme Colors at the bottom of the list. Click the Hyperlink Color list arrow and select a color. Click the Followed Hyperlink Color list arrow and select a different color. Click Save. 43. Highlight the point value (i.e. ) in the first row. Note: You can double-click on the point value to select it. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group click Hyperlink. On the left side of the dialog box, click Place in This Document. Select Slide 3. Click OK. 44. Highlight the next point value by double-clicking on it. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group click Hyperlink. Select the question slide which connects to this selected point value. Click OK. Continue this process until all question slides are linked to the point values on the game board. Note: Hyperlinks will revert back to their original color after the PowerPoint presentation is closed and opened again. 45. Press Ctrl+S to save after each slide. Adding a Surprise Slide (Refer to the Surprise Slide example at the end of this document.) A Surprise slide can be used to double the point value if the question is answered correctly. 46. Click at the bottom of the slide list. A horizontal line will appear. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group and click the Title Only slide layout. Design the slide using SmartArt, WordArt, and/or clip art. 47. Click on the Surprise slide in the slide list. Drag the Surprise slide to a location above the Question slide you have selected to double the points if it is answered correctly. 48. Click on Slide 2 (the Game Board slide). Highlight the point value of the question that will now point to the Surprise slide by double-clicking on it. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group click Hyperlink. Select the Surprise slide. Click OK. (Refer to the Example below.) Example: Drag the Surprise slide between Slide 4 and Slide 5. Highlight the 200 point value in the first column. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group click Hyperlink. Click Slide 5 which is the Surprise slide. Click OK. Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
6 Note: You can add several Surprise slides by duplicating the Surprise slide and moving it to a location above a Question slide. However, it will be important to remember to change the Hyperlink of the point value for this question so that it points to the Surprise slide. 49. Press Ctrl+S to save. Final Category, Challenge Question, Challenge Answer, and Ending Slide After all of the questions have been selected and answered, clicking on a clip art image, AutoShape, or text on the Game Board slide will link to the Final Category and Challenge Question. Creating the Final Category Slide (Refer to the Final Category Slide example at the end of this document.) 50. Click below the last slide in the slides list. A horizontal line will appear. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group. Click Title Only slide layout. Click in the Title text placeholder and type the final category. 51. Press Ctrl+S to save. Creating the Challenge Question Slide 52. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group. Click Title Only slide layout. Click in the Title text placeholder and type the challenge question. 53. Press Ctrl+s to save. Creating the Challenge Answer Slide 54. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group. Click Title Only slide layout. Click in the Title text placeholder and type the challenge answer. 55. Press Ctrl+S to save. Linking to the Final Category Slide from the Game Board 56. Click Slide 2 (the Game Board slide). Insert a clip art image by clicking the Insert tab and clicking Clip Art in the Images group, or click the Shapes list arrow in the Illustrations group, and draw a basic shape to the right of the Title text placeholder. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon and click Text box. Drag a text box and type "Click here for Final Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
7 Category." Another option would be to insert a text box without using clip art or an autoshape and type "Click here for Final Category." 57. Click once on the clip art image, AutoShape, or select all of the text in the text box. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group click Hyperlink. Click the Final Category Slide. Click OK. Note: When the Category Slide is displayed, participants can wager any of their earned points prior to seeing the Challenge Question. If they answer the Challenge Question correctly, the points wagered will be added to their score. If they answer the Challenge Question incorrectly, the points wagered will be deducted from their score. 58. Press Ctrl+S to save. Creating the Ending Slide 59. Click the Home tab. Click the New Slide list arrow in the Slides group. Click Title Only slide layout. Click in the Title text placeholder and type text for the Ending Slide. (Examples: Congratulations! or I hope you had fun! or The End!) 60. Press Ctrl+S to save. Evaluating the Slide Show 61. Click the Slide Show tab. Click From Beginning in the Start Slide Show group to check that hyperlinks and action buttons connect to the correct slides. 62. To edit action buttons, click on the action button and click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click Action in the Links group. To edit hyperlinks, select the hyperlink and click the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click Hyperlink in the Links group. 63. Check the Final Category hyperlink on the "Game Board" slide to make certain that it connects to the Final Category slide. Project 4: Microsoft PowerPoint
