1 MACROCONFERENCE The MacroConference Proceedings The Design of The Integration System for OTOP Products Data Using Web Services Technology, Thailand Sasitorn Phimansakulwat Faculty of Business Administration, Vongchavalitkul University Muang, Thailand Abstract This research has been conducted with an objective to design of integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology. The system applied SOAP protocol and and W3C XML standard allows application programs to communicate and exchange data that each OTOP development had developed. It also had the purpose of further developing the search and exchange of OTOP products data in an efficient manner without attaching to various platforms of data collections structures. Languages to use for development or operational systems must allow for the swift more convenient use of application with accurate results. The developer hopes that the design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology will be the approach for OTOP entrepreneurs to apply the development of applications. Also, for the management of OTOP products data in real situations and enhances the management of OTOP products data efficiently. This technology is also useful for business organizations that wish to use web services Technology to enhance performance and capacity of data search and mutual exchange. Introduction The One Tambon One Product (OTOP) project was part of ongoing search to solve economic issue and poverty policies by stimulating the grass roots of economy through emphasizing on the economy of the community or community enterprise, earning their personal income, helping themselves and improve their quality using local knowledge and local resources to adapt in regards to production and development of product in each individual community[9]. 29
2 There are shops in Nakhon Ratchasima such as the silk in Pakthongchai and reed in Gaengsanamnang. Advertising products to customers with high costs. Currently E-Business is a major factor influencing the growth of OTOP products in commerce. This interesting method of business includes using information as a tool to develop businesses even more. Each OTOP entrepreneurs will develop the database system to collect and provide data to manage product data, services data and sales data via the internet network. The main objective is to allow the users to search for data from the data sources more easily and rapidly. Currently, the data search OTOP products data is problematic since it is hard to access the data from different sources using different structures of data collection, different platforms and different kinds of software used for the system development. The search for data will lack flexibility and take a long time to collate. At present, web services technology [1][2] is an important tool in solving such problems since it can enable the applications developed by each OTOP entrepreneurs to work together and share mutual data. This technology emphasizes the solving of data integration problems to facilitate customer and business partners search for data. [Panlop Yeonyao and Thongpool Heepthaisong, 2009] [7] In this paper was to design and develop a knowledge management system using web service technology. This will increase knowledge management capability and can be connected to the system with different platform. The system can exchange information without any limit in standard language and different technology. Moreover, an interesting point of this system that is different from existing knowledge management system is that the user can create knowledge under supervision of expert. The system used keyword to increase knowledge search performance. Our system was tested by web-service and knowledge management expert. The result shows that the system s efficiency is in good level. [Sihem Amer-Yahia, Yannis Kotidis,2004][8] In this paper develop a middle-tier Web services architecture to optimize the exchange of large XML data volumes. The key idea is to allow systems to negotiate the data exchange process using an extension to WSDL. The source (target) can specify document fragments that it is willing to produce (consume). Given these fragmentations, the middle-ware instruments the data exchange process between the two systems to minimize the number of necessary operations and optimize the distributed processing between the source and the target systems. The above concept is in accordance with the definition of web services. The web services are the technology which allows application programs to communicate and exchange data between one another even though the data collection structures and the selection of software for system development of those application programs are different. To amplify, the web services will not be attached to any platform that is used for the development. What it does is to enable those application programs to connect, communicate or exchange data between each other using the Extensible Markup Language (XML)[6] as the medium language in the communication via the network so that it can be the mutual standard for the communication between application programs. The major mechanisms which support the functioning of web services are Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)[3], Web Services Description Language (WSDL)[4] and Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI)[5]. According to the study of such information, the developer has designed the integration 30
3 system for OTOP products data using web services technology to help solve such a problem. It is the design of web services which has the property to integrate, to search for OTOP products data, which allows users to get the services which match their desire and enhances the efficiency of data search. Objectives - To design the integration system for OTOP Products Data from various data sources using web services technology - To provide the approach that can be applied with the development of applications for the management of OTOP products data in order to facilitate the data search of users in the future. II. LITTERATURE REVIEW A. Definition of Web Services A Web service is an interface that describes a collection of operations that are network accessible through standardized XML messaging. A Web service is described using a standard, formal XML notion, called its service description. It covers all the details necessary to interact with the service, including message formats (that detail the operations), transport protocols and location. The interface hides the implementation details of the service, allowing it to be used independently of the hardware or software platform on which it is implemented and also independently of the programming language in which it is written. This allows and encourages Web Services-based applications to be loosely coupled, component-oriented, cross-technology implementations. Web Services fulfill a specific task or a set of tasks. They can be used alone or with other Web Services to carry out a complex aggregation or a business transaction.[1] B. The Web Services Model The Web Services architecture is based upon the interactions between three roles: service provider, service registry and service requestor. The interactions involve the publish, find and bind operations. Together, these roles and operations act upon the Web Services artifacts: the Web service software module and its description Roles in a Web Services Architecture Service provider. From a business perspective, this is the owner of the service. From an architectural perspective, this is the platform that hosts access to the service. Service requestor. From a business perspective, this is the business that requires certain functions to be satisfied. From an architectural perspective, this is the application that is looking for and invoking or initiating an interaction with a service. The service requestor role can be played by a browser driven by a person or a program without a user interface, for example another Web service. Service registry. This is a searchable registry of service descriptions where service providers publish their service descriptions. Service requestors find services and obtain binding information (in the service descriptions) for services during development for static binding or during execution for dynamic binding. For statically bound service requestors, the service 31
4 registry is an optional role in the architecture, because a service provider can send the description directly to service requestors. Likewise, servicerequestors can obtain a service description from other sources besides a service registry, such as a local file, FTP site, Web site, Advertisement and Discovery of Services (ADS) or Discovery of Web Services (DISCO). C. XML Messaging-Based Distributed Computing 1) In Figure 2, at (1) a service requestor s application creates a SOAP message. This SOAP message is the request that invokes the Web service operation provided by the service provider. 2) The SOAP server routes the request message to the service provider's Web service. The SOAP runtime is responsible for converting the XML message into programming languagespecific objects if required by the application. This conversion is governed by the encoding schemes found within the message. 3) The Web service is responsible for processing the request message and formulating a response. The response is also a SOAP message. At (3) the response SOAP message is presented to the SOAP runtime with the service requestor as the destination. In the case of synchronous request/response over HTTP, the underlying request/response nature of the networking protocol is used to implement the request/response nature of the messaging. The SOAP runtime sends the SOAP message response to the service requestor over the network. 4) At (4) the response message is received by the networking infrastructure on the service requestor s node. The message is routed through the SOAP infrastructure; potentially converting the XML message into objects in a target programming language. The response message is then presented to the application. This example uses the request/response transmission primitive that III. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY The objective of this research focuses on the design of the integration system for OTOP Products Data using web services technology for real use in the future. Therefore, to achieve such an objective, the operation was carried out following these steps: A.The Study of Related Research For the study of related research, the data from related research and data search systems that used web services technology were collected. The received data was analyzed in terms of pattern, structure and relationship. In doing so, the model of each project was compared to find the appropriate relationship between these models in order to solve the problem. B.The Design and Develop of the Model The develop of the model was the conclusion of results from the study of related research projects. This step considered the suitability of the application in OTOP. The model is as seen below (the end of article): The model had 3 main elements, which are: 1) In this study, the users were divided into 2 levels as below: 32
5 The administrators are the people who take care of the system of each OTOP organization. The administrators had to complete the registration in order to announce the services that they offered such as providing products data, sales data etc. to search for other services for usage. The end users are the customers and business partners allowed to search for information in the product description and order quickly and easily to reduce overlapping works and enable the efficient use of data. 2) OTOP Products Data Application OTOP Products Data Application is the application program which is the center of coordination between the users and the service providers. 3) Service Provider The service providers are responsible for the provision of useful services for the users. The service providers determine the service patterns that the users need and announce helpful services for the users to invoke. C. The Design and Development of the Integration System for OTOP Product Data This step demonstrates the operational processes in the organizations according to the research framework. For the integration of OTOP products data using web services, the system consist of application programs for the search of OTOP products data through the network system and the web services which offered services according to their duties. 1) Presentation reyal The OTOP Products Data Application and the web pages which were connected to the end users would have functions for the invocation of web services according to the working processes inside the OTOP entrepreneurs in order to get the works or the data that the users wanted. 2) Integration Layer consisted of various components as seen below: 2.1) Registration Module This step was the process of registration and announcement of web services of the system according to the UDDI s way of working. In this stage, it is possible to announce and search for services. 2.2) Metadata The metadata was the explanation of the methods to create the relationship in order to access the relational data from their sources using XML language. The data which were stored in the metadata were the virtual data used for the connection with the users, i.e., web services of users in each organization. As for the operation as required regarding the search and the work at data level, the web services would be invoked. Metadata include the addresses of web services, the methods and the service data of each web service. The design of metadata would help to make the data search match the users desire. 2.3) Query Module In this step, the users wanted the system to respond to their needs. The query module was related to metadata by taking the orders or the parameters from the users at presentation layer. Some functioning might choose to take the data from the metadata into the systems to be used as the data for web services invocation. 33
6 2.4) Web Services Invocation After receiving the orders or the parameters from the users, the system would invoke the web services according to their duties in order to get the results which would be sent back to the presentation and display level as required by the users. 2.5) Integration Result The connection between the OTOP products data application and web services was done in the form of SOAP Message which could be divided into SOAP Request Message which consisted of necessary parameters that were essential for the data search. The message would be sent to the webs that provided services. As for SOAP Response Message, it would be the result from the search. The results of parameters would be forwarded back to the OTOP products data application in order to turn the outputs of different formats into the same format and then display them back to the users. The results from the operational process by the invocation of web services would be sent back to the users accurately. Also, some results would be stored in metadata for the invocation of other web services. 3) Data Levels consist of: 3.1) Web Services The web services of OTOP products which provided information about products and services of each OTOP shop. 3.2) Database The OTOP products database consists of products and services database and sales database. 4) The Design of searching data and integration data The connection between OTOP products application and web services with SOAP messages, divided to SOAP request messages that contains essentials parameters for the search for data. The message is then sent to web service and would result in an SOAP response message post the search. The resulting parameter that was sent would be sent back to the OTOP products data application in different format of data in order for it to be the same format when presented to the user, as is displayed in the picture below (the end of article). 5) Application This research was able to utilize the results of the design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology as the for develop applications for the management OTOP product of Nakhon Ratchasima province to benefit the search of OTOP products the efficient mutual usage of data. III. Conclusion A. nocsulcnoc of the Study Results According to the results from the design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology it can be mutually used for search data of OTOP products which 34
7 have the diversity of structures and platforms in order to get the results which match the users desire. The conclusions and suggestions are as follow: 1) The design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology emphasizes the search of OTOP products data from one area, which can search various data sources and solve problems regarding the conflict of data between different data collection structures. It facilitates the customer and people who are interested in searching OTOP products data and reduce overlapping works. It is also useful for the utilization of data such as increasing sales and reducing costs of sales. 2) The design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology can be applied with development of management applications OTOP products and increase the capabilities to manage OTOP data efficiently. B. Discussion The design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology in this research focuses on the search of product data, services data and sales data which can exchange data efficiently without attaching to different platforms, languages for development and operational systems. The purpose is to facilitate customer and people who are interested in OTOP products data to search data and respond to the needs of users for greater convenience and speed, which is in accordance with the definition of web services. As for web services, they are the technology that allows application programs to communicate and exchange data even though these application programs structures are completely different and use different software through system development. Web service makes these application programs connect to each other and exchange the data between each other freely. It also advertise products to distribute it among customers thoroughly while decreasing expenses that would otherwise be wasted on management and advertising of OTOP owners. This research could be a model for application development specifically when it comes to the search and exchange of OTOP products including the adaptation with another business that has storage data in different database platforms or that use web services to increase the search and exchange of data performance. It reduces expenses and saves time when it comes to developing a system because it unites all systems into the same one, and enables their collective use through internet connections. C. Recommendation 1) The design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology the developer has an idea to apply the designed architecture with the develop applications so customer and business partners can search and exchange the data of OTOP products. The developer will also set up the security of data and the rights to access the service. 2) According to the design of the integration system for OTOP products data using web services technology in order to make the program process quickly, there should be an agreement on the pattern of structures which is stored in the form of XML which has been sent from each web service. If it is possible to make them the same pattern, the program will work faster and more efficiently. 35
