3 Landscaping at the Banana Grill Bldg 8 & 9 Landscape work continues around the Banana Grill area. Fire Alarm Testing Notices will be posted prior to the alarm testing. Please mark your calendar. 3

4 Dr. Nemo Observations ~ Aka ~ Mary Van Auken A few new varieties of plants have been added to the pond for shade for the koi. We are using a whiskey barrel cut in half for a planter. One pot is planted with Elephant Ear and the other has Black Taro. Interesting, the Elephant Ear plant leaves point up to the sky and the Taro plants point to the ground. The barrels protect the plants from the koi uprooting them, munching on the roots, and digging in the soil to make suitable areas to drop eggs. The pond always provides a wonderful spot to enjoy the beauty of our home here on Maui. You can listen to the waterfall, feel the trade winds, listen to wind in the trees, watch and hear the bird life, watch the fish cruising through the water or getting a massage in the bubblers, enjoy the children helping to feed the koi in the early evening, and watch the changes as the sun sets and lights illuminate the water. The waterfall has been down for several weeks due to a broken pump. A replacement pump that offers the best energy use is being investigated. 4

5 Expedia New Lobby Furniture Check out Expedia s new lobby furniture! Mahalo to Mike Gobel, who recently helped repair the shakey pool gate and deteriorated fence poles in the driveway. He even worked on the South Kihei Road automobile entry gate. We appreciate all that you do! 5

6 Floyd Van Auken The video camera surveillance project is now complete and operational by our Security team. Recently, the Board approved Floyd Van Auken and David Hummel s request to upgrade the current video surveillance software program for enhanced capability, as well as, providing for a more user friendly environment. The new capabilities include the following: Patrol Mode whereby Security can preset a number of locations and dwell on that location before automatically moving to the next preset location, Advance video content analytics which offers motion detection, signal loss, camera occlusion, foreign objects, and missing objects actionable recorded events, One-way and two-way people and traffic counting activity history, and Intelligent video playback search which will reduce the amount of time viewing recorded videos. Each of the 3 cameras is set to record 24 hrs a day. The South Gate entrance site has excellent camera views of the property as shown in the photos below. The north view in 1x and 10x mode shows the property along South Kihei road. From the east in 1x mode, the camera can view the road behind building 10 where cars are either parked or entering/leaving the property. 7 New Pool Attendant Some of you may have noticed a new face at the pool for a couple of weeks. The employee was Scott Smith, who was a temporary hire and filled in for Deb Hummel while she was on vacation. Mahalo to Scott and welcome back Deb. Swing Maui Mahalo to Mark Hammer, aka Kamaole Sands Security, who sent in pictures of their swing dance club s recent participation in the Mayor s Sock Hop on July 31 st. Mark says I m pretty proud of my swing kids. They did a great job; put on a great show. Mahalo for sharing your pictures! Main Entrance Sign Repair The main entry sign to the Kamaole Sands had been in a state of deterioration over several years. Recent repairs of large cracks in the wood and a new paint job has given the sign a new fresh look. Plans to add another sign facing south (for traffic coming from the Wailea direction) is being reviewed. 7

9 The AOAO is looking for owner volunteers with plumbing experience who can be a consultant to the board on plumbing issues? If you are interested, please contact Jarret in the AOAO office. A spot light was added to building 6 Building entrance sign. Recent repairs to the gym roof were completed. Building 5: All lanai ground lights replaced with new. Don t forget to send in your comments to the AOAO office regarding a BBQ House Rule Change. Deadline to send in your comments is August 31 st. 9

10 Two test pole lamps were approved for installation by the board. The AOAO is looking to hire a contractor to handle the installation of the test poles. Stall 477 Stall 472 Kamaole Sands Well Reservoir Tank In late July, several pin hole leaks were detected on the well reservoir tank. Well operation was shut down to prevent further damage. Water use was switched to county water. A replacement tank is being investigated. The tank was last replaced and system overhauled in March The security staff was increased by one person during the summer months. Summer is coming to an end along with the additional coverage.
