Ppline links thrugh t the full text f any dcuments that are freely available n the Internet. Accessing Ppline Ppline is freely available n the Internet. T access Ppline, g t Basic Search Decide which keywrds t use fr yur search. E.g. if yu were searching fr recent infrmatin abut maternal transmissin f HIV thrugh breastfeeding, the search keywrds might be: Keywrds: breastfeeding, maternal HIV transmissin Enter yur keywrd(s) int ne f the search bx using AND r OR t cmbine yur search terms. AND finds articles cntaining bth yur first term and yur secnd term. Use fr differing cncepts (e.g. breastfeeding AND HIV transmissin) OR finds articles cntaining either yur first term r yur secnd term. Use fr similar terms r cncepts (e.g. breast milk OR human milk) Nte If yu d nt type AND r OR between yur terms, Ppline will autmatically link them with OR.

2 Nte - Remember that Ppline will search fr the exact wrd, r wrds, that yu type in. This means yu need t think abut all the different ways t describe yur tpic in rder t d a cmprehensive search, e.g. synnyms, singular and plural terms and UK/US spellings. Truncatin - use * t truncate a wrd (e.g. nurs* will find nurse, nurses, nursing, etc.) Phrase Search use t search fr a phrase (e.g. integrated management f childhd illness ) Advanced Search The advanced search allws yu t search using Ppline keywrds, search by jurnal title, r add limits t yur search. Jurnal Title Limits T search fr a jurnal title, select Surce frm the All Fields drp-dwn menu and type a jurnal title int the search bx, e.g. Child Develpment Use the relevant search bx t limit by language, date r type f publicatin Ppline keywrds Using Ppline keywrds can imprve the results f yur search. There are tw ways t find Ppline keywrds fr yur tpic: 1. Select Keywrd frm the drp-dwn menu n the left. Start t type a search term, e.g. mther, int the search bx. Matching Ppline keywrds will be suggested belw the search bx. Click n ne t add it t yur search.

3 2. Click n the KEYWORD GUIDE link twards the tp right f the Ppline screen t brwse the cmplete list f keywrds, then cpy the keywrd int the Keywrd search bx. Select AND, OR r NOT, then add anther keywrd. Use the Limits bx t refine yur search. Then click n

4 Displaying, Marking and Outputting Results Displaying yur results By default the results at the tp f the list are the mst recent. Click n Relevancy (abve the results list t the right) t see the mst relevant publicatins at the tp f the list. Yu can use the filter t the right f the results list t further refine yur search. Accessing full text dcuments Click n dcument is available. t access Ggle Schlar and check whether the full text Chsing selected results t print r save T save all the results in the list, select a frmat fr the results frm the tp f the right hand menu: CSV puts yur results int a spreadsheet, e.g. Micrsft Excel RIS will exprt yur results directly t Endnte, Reference Manager, r Endnte Web TXT will display yur results as a text file T save selected results, yu will need t register with Ppline. Click n SIGN IN Click n Create new accunt and cmplete the frm Yu will be sent a cnfirmatin . Click n the link t set a passwrd and activate yur accunt. Then, t save: Click n ADD TO MY DOCUMENTS beneath the recrds that yu wish t select. Click n the MY DOCUMENTS flder t the tp right f the results list. Select a frmat fr yur results.

5 Saving a search T save a search, i.e. t save the keywrds and filters that yu have used t search Ppline, type a name fr yur search int the Name & Save Current Search bx t the right f the results screen: Click n Save T retrieve yur search, click n MY POPLINE and select the Saved Searches tab. Click n the name f yur search t re-run it in Ppline.
