1 Product description 1.1 Purpose AS 271 programming software The Questor electronic safe lock offers flexible programming and configuration options. Many functions can be programmed directly at the lock using the keypad on the input unit. Some settings, however, can only be configured using the Windows programming software. This documentation contains a description of the AS 271 programming software and all of the associated functions AS 270 activation software The Questor safe lock has three different modes of operation. The AS 270 activation software for Windows is used to switch to one of the two interactive one-time combination modes which are available. This documentation contains a description of the AS 270 activation software and all of the associated functions. 1.2 System components The various components of the Questor system are listed below in order to provide an overview. Some components are optional or are intended for expansion and integration of the system with other software. The AS 270 activation software and management software, or an integrated solution with a Questor interface (APHI), are required for operation in interactive mode Questor lock The Questor lock consists of a motorized lock with standard dimensions and an input unit with green navigation buttons. The lock is shipped from the factory in bank mode with master code , and functions as a conventional combination lock AS 270 activation software The AS 270 activation software for Windows operating systems is used to switch from bank mode into one of the two one-time combination modes, OTC or ICS AS 271 programming software Basic settings for the lock, such as the language, time delays for opening, inputs and outputs, etc., are configured with the AS 271 programming software AS 273 management software The AS 273 management software is used to issue one-time combinations. This software controls and logs all processes, and enables the centralized management of all locks and users AS 274 server management software (optional) This practical software makes it possible for a large number of users to work with the Questor system at the same time. Even the most sophisticated systems can be managed with this software APHI - Application Programming Hardware Interface (optional) The APHI external interface was developed for the integration of lock management with a customer s existing software solution. Once it has been integrated with existing software, APHI handles all tasks related to the issuance of one-time combinations. Page EN-4

1.3 Modes of operation The Questor electronic safe lock offers three different modes of operation in a single lock Bank mode As a factory default, the Questor lock is set to function as a conventional electronic combination lock in bank mode. It opens after a preprogrammed opening combination has been entered Interactive mode OTC (One Time Combination) In this operating mode, it is possible to generate a one-time opening combination for a Questor lock for a user who has been registered in the management software (Section System components on page 4). This combination allows the lock to be opened one time. It is valid for an unlimited period of time. As soon as the lock has been opened, the previously generated one-time combination will no longer be valid Interactive mode ICS (Interactive Code System) This operating mode provides tight control over events at the lock. An opening combination can only be generated when the user is on-site at the lock, and after they have entered their four-digit identification number on the lock to register themselves. Only then can the management software be used to generate an opening combination with various time delays Switching between modes of operation The lock can be switched from one operating mode to another at any time, provided that the lock is in the open position. Attempts to switch between modes of operation on a closed lock will be rejected with an error message Switching from bank mode to one of the interactive modes (OTC or ICS) The AS 270 activation software is used to switch from bank mode into one of the two onetime combination modes. This procedure is referred to as activation Reverting from OTC or ICS mode back into bank mode The AS 271 programming software is used to reset an activated Questor lock. The reset function is only available in the programming software if the software has been linked to an activated lock (see page EN-14). Page EN-5

Vacation block period active Duress alarm Remote disabling active Cancel delay active Battery compartment open Programming mode active Peripheral device online Door contact open Bolt open No connection Battery almost dead Bolt movement error Hardware error Dead battery Function Description Use Courier opening Bank mode only: During a previously programmed vacation day, the relay output is activated by this pre-programmed option. The output is activated after a duress alarm has been triggered, notification of the duress can be forwarded to other devices (e.g. an alarm system) through the output. If input 1 has been programmed for remote disabling and this input is active, the relay output is switched. When input 2 is programmed as cancel delay time, and it is active, it can be forwarded through one of the two relay outputs. As soon as the contact on the battery compartment is opened, the relay is switched. This output is activated after the programming mode has been activated through the Mode button on the input unit or through the programming software if connected. The output is active if a connection with the lock is established via the RS-232 interface on the side of the input unit. Output is active when the door contact is open. Output is active when the lock bolt is retracted. An interruption in the connection between the lock and the input unit is registered at the relay with this option. The relay output is activated when the battery voltage is low. An output programmed with this option forwards a bolt-movement error message to the relay. The relay output is activated if a hardware error is detected by the lock s electronics. With this option, a signal is sent through the relay output when the battery is dead. This option can be used to signal the entry of a valid courier code (if programmed) at the relay output. 25 i Relay programming only valid in BANK MODE The programming of the relay outputs is only valid for operation of the lock in bank mode.for the two interactive modes, the settings described in Relay programming in interactive mode are valid Relay programming in interactive mode In the two interactive modes (OTC or ICS), both of the relay outputs are preset at the factory. The settings are: Relay output 1 - duress alarm Relay output 2 - lock open Options tab Options tab in the Other menu Function Remote disabling Controlled disabling Duress alarm Four-eyes principle Description This box is used to configure output 1 of the lock (in bank mode) so that when input voltage is applied (also see lock instructions), the lock will be in a blocked state and can not be operated or opened. When this box is checked, the relay outputs of the lock (in bank mode) are programmed so that multiple locks (if inputs/outputs are wired accordingly) effectively block each other in order to prevent more than one lock from being open at the same time. The duress function is switched on by checking this box. The entry of a duress code will ONLY be recognized if this box is checked. When this box is checked, two valid user codes will be required to open the lock in bank mode. The master code and the courier code are exempt from this rule, as either one can still be used alone to open the lock when the four-eyes principle is active. This is only applicable if the master code has been authorized for access and/or a courier code has been programmed in the lock. Page EN-25

Function Beep when lock is open Master code may open the lock Remote enabling Audible alarm volume Input 2, cancel delay Input 2, door contact Apply - transfers the modified data to the lock. Default - resets the values to the default setting. Description By selecting this box, the lock will emit an audible beep every 30 seconds while the lock is open in order to draw attention to the fact that it is still open. If this box is checked, the lock will open in bank mode after the master code has been entered. If this is undesirable due to a separation of powers, then this box should not be checked. In interactive mode, input 1 on the lock can be configured for remote enabling. The volume of the buzzer can be adjusted with the three selection buttons - mute, quiet and loud. If this box is checked, the programmed delay time will be bypassed if the contact at input 2 is closed; the lock will open immediately after a valid opening combination is entered. The configuration of input two as a door contact enables the lock to accurately detect whether the safe door has been opened and closed again. Input 2 is configured as a door contact as the factory default. Page EN-26

5 Activating the lock i Before the application can be started, it must be installed according to the instructions in Section Installing the AS 270 activation software on page 8 Activation is used to switch the operating mode of the Questor lock from bank mode into one of the two interactive modes - ICS or OTC. This procedure effectively binds the individual lock to a customer s Questor system. This means that after activation, the lock can only be operated in conjunction with management software (also see Section System components on page 4) from the same customer. Customer-specific system number! Every Questor system is registered to a specific customer through a one-time identification process. Registration takes place at the point of sale for the software or an APHI At this time, the appropriate registration form is filled out and sent to Kaba. To activate the lock in a customer s system, a Kaba-programmed USB dongle is required for the AS 270 software. Additional AS 270 dongles can be ordered if needed. 5.1 Starting the application If a valid copy-protection dongle is connected to one of the computer s USB ports and the appropriate driver has been installed, the application can be started by clicking on the program icon that was automatically created in the Kaba folder under the Windows Start Menu. Start screen - AS 270 activation software Connection with the lock The lock must be connected to the computer via the serial interface for the activation process (see Section Connecting the lock and the computer on page 12) Page EN-27

QUESTOR - Programming 5.2 Using the application User interface! i Activation software user interface The Lock name field is used to identify the lock. The user-created name can be changed afterwards at any time. The Lock description field allows for a more precise description of the lock or the installation site. The description can be changed afterwards at any time. If the master code of the lock has been changed, it must be entered in the apropriate field Master Code in order to allow AS270 to connect to the lock. With this field left empty the software will try to connect to the lock using a preprogrammed master code from the USb dongle or, if the dongle does not contain a master code, connect with the default factory code. To change the locks master code at the same time while activating the lock, enter a new master code and cofirm this code in the appropriate fields New master code and Confirm new master code. Loss of the master code! If the master code is lost, a connection will not be able to be established again between the lock and the programming software. Likewise, the lock will not be able to be reset again without the master code. If the master code is lost, the lock will have to be replaced! The ICS check box is used to select between the two interactive operating modes that are available. If the box is checked, then the lock will be activated in ICS mode. If the box is not checked, the AS 270 software will activate the lock in OTC mode (also see Section Modes of operation on page 5). In order to establish a connection with the lock, the assigned port for the serial interface must be selected from the list. The language for the software is changed in the Language selection menu. Connection to the lock with AS 270! The AS 270 activation software uses the factory default master code to connect with the lock. Make sure that the current master code in the lock is set to the factory default (factory default master code: )! Activate - writes the activation data to the lock that is connected to the computer. At the same time the activation data is being written to the lock memory, an activation file is created for importing the data into the management software at a later time. The default name of the activation file is act527_1.dat and it is saved in the installation directory of the software. Page EN-28

i Activating the serial interface on the lock In order to establish a connection between the lock and the computer, the interface on the lock input unit must be activated. This is done by pressing the ENTER button on the input unit. Then the interface will be active for a short period of time. About - displays the version number of the activation software. Display of the installed software version Page EN-29
