4 1 Introduction 1.1 MEMOplanner MEMOplanner is a digital calendar with a reminder function. MEMOplanner helps you remember appointments, structure your day, week, month and year. Reminders can be played as sounds, audio messages and/or an SMS. A timeline, appearing as a light-column or point, indicates the time of day, red for daytime and blue for night-time. MEMOplanner has been developed in collaboration with specialists in dementia, developmental disabilities, acquired brain damage, neuropsychiatry and psychiatry in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. MEMOplanner was developed with a grant from Research Council of Norway IT Funk. MEMOplanner can help make daily life simpler for people with cognitive impairment. People who have challenges with planning and structuring their day, or who have memory difficulties, can be greatly aided by MEMOplanner. 1.2 Product description: MEMOplanner MEMOplanner can be hung on the wall or placed on a table stand. MEMOplanner is portable. MEMOplanner can be accessed directly via the touchscreen or via the Internet (remote control). 4

18 7 Remote control of MEMOplanner: Remote control lets family members or helpers enter appointments, pictures and other information from their own PC directly into MEMOplanner. Thus an Internet connection is required for remote control. Use of Internet Explorer is recommended for remote control. In respect of personal privacy, remote control is normally disabled and must be manually turned on in order to use it. Help: Help provides more in-depth information about remote operations for those especially interested. In English only. 22
23 Full-screen: This places the screen image being received from MEMOplanner to completely fill the local computer screen. In some cases, this may make it easier to work with MEMOplanner. The MEMOplanner screen image will now completely fill the local computer screen. To return to the previous screen display, move the mouse to the top center of the screen where there is a coloured stripe: Clicking the stripe will open a menu. One click on the button displayed underneath it will return the screen to normal display. Close: Disconnecting from MEMOplanner. 26 8 Network connections 8.1 Network cable MEMOplanner can be connected to a network by connecting a network cable to the network port. 8.2 Wireless network NB! MEMOplanner's wireless network card uses channels If the choice of channel router is set to Auto, it may fall outside of MEMOplanner's range. We therefore recommend setting the router to one of the channels For information about how to do this, see the router user guide or contact an IT specialist. To access the desktop, the MEMOplanner program must be closed. Do this by connecting the keyboard and mouse and pressing the Esc (escape) key on the keyboard. You will then be asked about closing the program and reply with Yes. To access the Start menu in Windows, press the Windows button on the keyboard. 28 Press Close to complete the network connection. Secure network If the desired network is secure, pressing Connect will open the following window. A security key or password must be entered. Contact the person in charge of the network to receive one. After the correct security key or password has been entered, these Windows will be displayed: 28
29 If this is a wireless network to be used repeatedly, check store this network and Automatically start this connection. MEMOplanner will now remember this connection and will automatically connect MEMOplanner to this network the next time it is in this area of coverage. Press Close to establish this network connection. Click the MEMOplanner shortcut again. to restart the MEMOplanner program 29
30 9 Mobile Broadband It is not possible to use mobile broadband via the USB GSM card that comes with the Memoplanner. If you want to use mobile broadband you need to use a mobile broadband router. Routers for mobile broadband works as a regular broadband connection. You connect Memoplanner to the wireless network that is set on the router and access the internet via the routers mobile broadband connection. Broadband routers can be purchased from most major mobile operators. NB! If you want to use Skype with video over mobile broadband you need 4G or 3G coverage. Most routers for mobile broadband have an indicator that shows the type of connection available. It is not guaranteed that you can run Skype with video over 3G/4G networks. Local conditions will have a major impact on the packet loss and network speed, and since a Skype call is real time, packet loss and network speeds have a very large impact on the quality even if bandwidth is good. 10 GSM card for MEMOplanner A GSM card for MEMOplanner lets MEMOplanner send SMS messages. Prior to use The SIM card must not be a dual card. It must be a dedicated SIM card. In addition, we also ask the user to not use MEMOplanner for accessing mobile broadband together with the SIM-card GSM holder. This may result in loading the SIM card for all charges and not the mobile broadband. NOTE that the PIN code on the SIM card must be turned off. A mobile phone consultant can do this using the mobile phone user's guide or you can ask the telephone company how to do this. 1. Remove the back cover with Velcro attached: 2. Insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder with the contacts facing down. Pay attention to the notched corner. 30
31 3. Replace the back cover. 4. Push the release button to release the USB contact: 5. Connect the enclosed USB cable to the GSM unit. 6. Place the other end into the USB port on the MEMOplanner. 7. Fasten the GSM unit using the enclosed Velcro the back side of the MEMOplanner. 31
32 11 Backup 11.1 Automatic backup MEMOplanner runs an automatic daily backup every midnight, and there is an additional weekly backup at 12:30 AM every Saturday morning. This lets you retrieve data from the previous day or week. The backup files are stored on the D disk in MEMOplanner. The daily backup is stored here: d:\backup\daily\ The weekly backup is stored here: d:\backup\weekly\ In each of the two folders, daily and weekly, are 3 folders called Programs, Program Resources and My Pictures Restoring backups NB! Backups should be restored only if all entered activities have been lost. Activities that have been entered since the last backup will be lost, namely those up to last Saturday for weekly backups and those up to the last night for daily backups. Before restoring a backup, the MEMOplanner program must be closed. Connect the keyboard and the mouse to the HUB and connect this to MEMOplanner. Press the ESC button at the top left keyboard. To access the Start menu in Windows, press the Windows button on the keyboard. Start Windows Explore and go to d:\backup. This is where the Daily and Weekly folders reside. Click the backup folder from which restoration is wanted. Mark the Programs and Program Resources folders. Right-click the two folders and choose Copy. Go to C:\Program files(x86)\rolltalk\rolltalk Designer and paste the folders into this folder. Press Yes when asked about replacing the folders. Close Windows Explorer. Click the MEMOplanner shortcut again. to restart the MEMOplanner program 32
33 12 Troubleshooting Problem description No or low volume, even if volume level 4 is chosen. The device has suddenly stopped or will not start. The MEMOplanner program has locked up or will not close. Solution Press and hold Volume up button (14). See chapter 2.2. Check that the power supply is correctly inserted into both the mains and MEMOplanner. Reboot the machine using Reboot on the Start Menu. If this does not work try the On/Off button. Slide it towards the Power symbol and hold it there until the machine turns off. Turn it on again by sliding the On/Off button towards the Power symbol and hold it there until the blue hard disk diode lights up. MEMOplanner should now start automatically. MEMOplanner will not send an SMS. - Has a mobile telephone number been entered? See chapter in Calendar Function User Guide. - Is there mobile phone coverage where the MEMOplanner is? Check the signal using a regular mobile telephone. - Is the GSM card correctly installed? See chapter 10. None of the above helps. 13 Cleaning Contact Abilia, at telephone (+47) Clean the MEMOplanner Screen using the provided screen cleaner and cleaning cloth. Other parts of MEMOplanner may be cleaned with a cloth lightly moistened with soapy water, but it must never be immersed in water. Disconnect the power supply while cleaning. 33
