2 Installation and Administration

chapter 1 Installation Overview Before you install, upgrade, or set up anything, you must gather some information and plan your network setup. Installation Checklist Use the checklist below to plan for tasks that must be completed in a certain order. Other tasks can be completed at your convenience. Plan your NDS TM tree for the new or upgraded server. If you are not already familiar with networking and NDS, read Appendix A, Understanding Networks and NDS, on page 181 before starting the installation. Install or upgrade server software. Set up the administrator s workstation and change the Admin and Supervisor users passwords. Set up Internet access. Install the Novell Client TM software on all users workstations. Set up GroupWise. Chapter 1: Installation Overview 3

Each of these checklist items is covered in Part 1 of this manual. 23 chapter 2 Installing or Upgrading the Server This chapter provides instructions for installing this product on a new server, and for upgrading from previous versions, NetWare for Small Business TM, NetWare 3 TM, or NetWare 4 TM. It also provides information for upgrading from NetWare 2.2, Personal NetWare, and other non- Novell network operating systems. Hardware Requirements Make sure the hardware for the server meets the following minimum requirements: A PC (or PC compatible) with a 486 (SX or DX), Pentium, or higher processor A minimum of 32 MB of RAM (a minimum of 48 MB is recommended) A CD-ROM drive A network board A 600MB hard disk with a minimum of 100 MB for the DOS partition, and at least 500 MB for the NetWare partition A 500 MB NetWare partition provides enough room for the NetWare operating system, utilities, and print queues. A 1 GB drive is recommended. If you want to install user files, applications, and other products, such as a Web server or online documentation, you will need additional free space for a large NetWare partition. Chapter 2: Installing or Upgrading the Server 5

Overview of the Installation or Upgrade The install program performs the following tasks when you are installing a new server, or are upgrading from intranetware for Small Business, NetWare for Small Business 4.11, NetWare 3, or NetWare 4: (New installation only) Reformats the hard disk to create a new DOS partition and make room for a NetWare partition, then installs DOS and appropriate driver files. Automatically detects some hardware devices on your computer, including hard disks, CD-ROM drives, and network boards. It then scans for and selects applicable drivers for the hardware. If Install finds more than one driver for your hardware or is unable to match a hardware device with a driver, you are prompted to select a driver. Copies server boot files to the DOS partition. (New installation only) Creates a NetWare partition. If a NetWare partition already exists, you are prompted to either delete the existing partition (and possibly lose data) or exit install and perform an upgrade. Copies the system files to the NetWare partition. Installs the NetWare license on the server. Automatically loads NIAS. Automatically loads DHCP, NAT, GroupWise 5.2, and the NetWare Support Pack. Creates an Organization object with a name you define. This name becomes the name of the NDS TM tree. Creates the root, user ADMIN, and NetWare Server and Volume objects. 6 Installation and Administration

Install or Upgrade Server Software Complete the steps outlined in one of the following procedures, depending on whether you want to install a new server, or upgrade an existing NetWare for Small Business 4.11, intranetware for Small Business, NetWare 3, or NetWare 4 file server to this product. New Installation Follow this procedure to install this product to a new server. 1. Insert the Pre-installation diskette into the disk drive. When prompted, indicate whether this is the first server on the network, then press Enter. If this is the first server, install creates the NDS tree for the network. This tree will be accessed by all servers on this system. If this is not the first server on the system, install adds this server to the existing NDS tree. 9. When prompted, enter the organization name in the field provided. First server install in this tree. You might want to enter your company name for the organization name. Use the same organization name for all servers you install. Not the first server install in this tree. Enter the organization name you used during your first server install. If you do not remember the organization name, enter CONFIG at the console prompt on the first server. At the bottom of the final screen, the Tree name (which is also the organization name) is listed. 10. Enter the server name in the field provided. The server name can contain 2 to 32 characters. Because users will enter the server name often, keep the name short. During installation, install attempts to detect the hardware devices on the computer and loads the appropriate drivers for those devices. If install is unable to detect a hardware device or more than one driver is found for this device, you are prompted to select a driver for the device manually. If prompted, follow the instructions on the screen. 10 Installation and Administration

11. (Conditional) If a NetWare partition already exists, select whether to delete or keep the existing partition. Install begins copying files to the server. 12. 32 14 Installation and Administration

chapter 3 Setting Up the Administrator s Workstation We recommend setting up the NetWare administrator's workstation and environment before you set up user accounts or complete other setup procedures. Prerequisites The administrator's workstation must be a Windows 95/98 or NT computer with a CD-ROM drive. You must know what network board is installed in this computer, and what its settings are. Make sure the workstation is on and that Windows is running. You must locate and have available your Windows CD. You will need it during the installation. If you already have a Novell Client TM installed on the administrator's workstation, you must remove it before continuing with this install. Follow the steps in Uninstalling the Novell Client on page 19. Once the client is uninstalled, return to this page and continue with the procedure. Chapter 3: Setting Up the Administrator s Workstation 15

Installing the Administrator s Workstation To set up the administrator's workstation, complete the following steps. 1. Insert the Novell Client CD into the CD-ROM drive. This CD will auto-launch if your system is set up for auto-launch. Otherwise, click My Computer > right-click the CD-ROM icon > click AutoPlay. 2. Click the language in which you want the Novell Client installed. 3. Click Windows 95/98 Client > Install Novell Client. The Software Licensing Agreement is displayed. 4. Read and accept the Software Licensing Agreement. 5. Verify that Typical Installation is selected > click Install. 6. Follow the screen prompts to complete the installation. Important: If prompted to keep a newer Novell file than what is being installed, click No in order to keep a matched set of client files. Otherwise, you might have compatibility problems. 7. When prompted, log in to the network as user Admin. Initially, the Admin user has no password set for it. 8. When the Novell NetWare Setup dialog opens, click Next to start. After you log in to the administrator's workstation the first time (and only the first time) with the Admin user, QuickStart automatically launches. You can set up users and groups using QuickStart, or you can run the NEAT utility to do all of your setup later. If you want to set up users and groups on your network using QuickStart, continue with Using QuickStart to Set Up Your Network on page Installation and Administration

Using QuickStart to Set Up Your Network QuickStart launches only the first time you log in to the network as Admin from the administrator's workstation. Therefore, for any management you want to do after this first launch of QuickStart, you must use the NEAT utility. To set up groups and users on your network using QuickStart, complete the following procedure. 1. If you have not already done so for the first time, log in to the network from the administrator's workstation as Admin. The Welcome screen opens. 2. Click Next. If is the first time you have logged in, QuickStart will automatically launch. If QuickStart doesn t launch, use the NEAT utility to set up or manage your network. In this case, skip this procedure. 3. Follow the screen prompts to enter a name for each Group object you want to create, then click Next. 4. Follow the screen prompts to add a user to the first Group, then click Next. If more than one Group object exists, a dialog for adding User objects to the next Group object opens. 5. Follow the screen prompts to add User objects to other Group objects as needed, until you are finished. 6. Choose your preferred GroupWise installation option. If you choose to install a new GroupWise 5.2 server, the installation process creates a complete GroupWise system on your server for the users you just created. The GroupWise Setup loads several NLM TM programs on the file server, and lets you run the GroupWise client setup later. If you prefer, you can choose to skip the automatic installation of GroupWise 5.2 to the server, and run the installation of GroupWise at a later time. Chapter 3: Setting Up the Administrator s Workstation 17

If you already have GroupWise 4.1 installed on your server, you should choose the option to upgrade to GroupWise 5.2, not the new server installation option. 7. Finish the installation of users and groups, and implement your GroupWise installation choice. 8. When prompted, specify whether you want to set up printing services at this time. If you choose to set up network printing at this time, go to Chapter 12, Setting Up and Managing Network Printing, on page 89 for more information. Changing the Admin and Supervisor Users Passwords Both the NDS Admin and bindery Supervisor users passwords are initially set to no password during the installation/upgrade. Until you set a password for each of these users, the potential for a security breach exists on your network. To change the bindery-based Supervisor user s password, use the following procedure. 1. At the DOS prompt of the Admin workstation, enter LOGIN servername SUPERVISOR /B 2. After you are logged in, enter setpass 3. Follow the prompts. For more information on using SETPASS, type SETPASS /? at the command line for help, or refer to the SETPASS command-line utility in the NetWare 4 online documentation > Reference > Utilities Reference > Utilities > SETPASS. To change the NDS Admin user s password, log in to the network using the standard (non-bindery) login, then use SETPASS or NEAT. 18 Installation and Administration

Uninstalling the Novell Client If a version of the Novell Client is running on the workstation that is to be the Admin's workstation, you must uninstall that client before running the setup, even if you have a new version of the Novell Client installed. Otherwise, the installation for the Admin workstation will not run properly, and a mismatch of files between the server software and the client software will exist, causing incompatibility errors and problems. To uninstall a version of the Novell Client currently residing on the Admin user's workstation, complete the following procedure. 1. While holding down Shift, insert the Novell Client CD into the CD-ROM drive. Holding Shift while inserting the Novell Client CD will prevent the auto-launch of the Novell Client install program. 2. Open My Computer > right-click the CD-ROM icon. 3. Click Open > Products > Win95/98 > IBM_enu (for English) or the equivalent directory for the language in which you originally installed the Novell Client software. 4. Click Admin > double-click unc32.exe to launch the Uninstall program. 5. Follow the screen prompts, and when prompted, choose to uninstall the ODI drivers. 6. Continue with the uninstall until prompted to reboot the computer. If you see any messages indicating that certain.dll files are missing, or that there are files which cannot be loaded, ignore these messages and continue. 41 chapter 5 Installing Novell Client Software The Novell Client TM software provides access to Novell networks from workstations that use a variety of operating systems. This chapter explains how to install the client software from CD-ROM on one workstation as well as one method of installing the client software across the network (other methods are explained fully in the online documentation). Preparing to Install the Client Software Before installing the client software, make sure the client workstations have sufficient resources and the required software. The complete hardware and software setup for client workstations might require you to complete one or more of the following tasks: Check for a valid network connection Check client workstation requirements Novell Client for Windows 95/98 and Novell Client for Windows NT require long filename support. If users will connect to NetWare 3 TM and NetWare 4 TM servers, you must install and load the appropriate name spaces. See Novell Client for Windows NT > Setting Up > Preparing to Install > Preparing Servers in the online documentation available on the Novell Clients CD-ROM. Checking for a Valid Network Connection To check for a valid network connection from a Windows 95/98 or Windows NT workstation, complete the following steps. 1. Open Network Neighborhood. 2. Check that the networks you expect to see actually appear in the Network Neighborhood window. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 23

If you have never installed a client or created a network connection, you might not have access to Network Neighborhood. Therefore, you must install the client software from CD-ROM. See Installing Clients from CD-ROM on page 26. Preparing Client Workstations Checking Client Workstation Requirements Certain client workstation requirements must be met before installing or upgrading Novell Client software. Workstation hardware and software Platform Hardware Software Windows 95/ processor or better Minimum 28 MB free disk space Minimum 16 MB RAM Windows NT Minimum hardware requirements of Windows NT 4.0 DOS and Windows 3.1x 386 processor or better Windows 95/98 Windows 95/98 CD-ROM or the Windows.cab files. Windows NT 4.0 One of the following operating systems: Minimum 15 MB free disk space Minimum 8 MB RAM A memory manager Novell DOS TM 7 MS-DOS 5.x or 6.x PC-DOS 5.x, 6.x, or 7.0 Windows 3.1x or Windows for Workgroups Installation and Administration

The network board Novell Client for Windows NT and Novell Client for Windows 95/98 support Network Driver Interface Specification TM (NDIS TM ) drivers. For information about installing the network board, refer to the board manufacturer s instructions. Open Data-Link Interface TM (ODI TM ) drivers are not installed on Windows 95/98 or Windows NT. If you are upgrading an older version of the client and you have ODI drivers currently installed, these drivers are still supported. If you are installing for the first time, NDIS drivers will be installed. If you do not already have the necessary NDIS driver, you might need to obtain it from the Windows 95/98 CD-ROM or from the network board manufacturer. Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x supports ODI drivers. For information about installing the network board, refer to the board manufacturer s instructions. Incompatibilities Windows 95/98 The following network components are not compatible with Novell Client for Windows 95/98: Microsoft Client for NetWare networks Microsoft file and printer sharing for NetWare networks Microsoft Service for Novell Directory Services TM (NDS TM ) software Novell NetWare workstation shell 3.x (NETX) Novell NetWare workstation shell 4.0 and later (VLM TM ) clients Novell Internetwork Packet Exchange TM (IPX TM ) ODI protocol (the 16-bit module for the NETX and VLM clients) These network components conflict with Novell Client for Windows 95/98. If any of these network components are installed, the client installation program detects the conflict and removes the conflicting network components. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 25

Windows NT Read the Novell Client for Windows NT readme file, winnt.txt, for upto-date information about software incompatibilities. DOS and Windows 3.1x There are no known incompatibilities. Installing Clients from CD-ROM If you plan to install the Novell Client software on a small number of workstations, or if the workstations are not yet connected to a network, installing from the Novell Client CD-ROM works best. One network installation method is explained in this chapter ( Installing Clients from the Network on page 29). Additional network installation options and specific information about each platform are available in the online documentation on the Novell Client CD-ROM. If you plan to install the Novell Client on several workstations on the network, consider using one of several network installation options. A network installation can upgrade existing client software or install new client software. Installing Clients from Windows The Novell Client Setup utility helps you install Novell Client software on Windows-based workstations. When you use this utility, you can select the client you want to install from a list of available clients. Administrative options are also available. To install from a local CD-ROM drive, complete the following procedure. 1. Insert the Novell Client CD-ROM. If the Novell Client Setup utility does not automatically launch, run winsetup.exe from the root of the CD-ROM. 2. Click a language for the installation. 26 Installation and Administration

3. Click a platform for the installation. 4. Click the software to install. This starts the installation utility for that software. 5. Follow the on-screen instructions. For help during the installation, refer to the online help that accompanies the software. Installing Clients from DOS The DOS-based installation installs the necessary files for Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x files and allows you to select from several optional utilities. If you previously installed the client software in Windows and you are using multiple location profiles, you should update using the Windows installation. Location profiles maintain information about your working environment for each location you work in, or for each networking environment in a location. The DOS installation does not support Novell Dial-up Services or Locations and it disables previously installed versions of the Locations Manager. To install from a local CD-ROM drive, complete the following procedure. 1. Insert the Novell Client CD-ROM. 2. From a DOS prompt, switch to the drive where the Novell Client CD-ROM is located. 3. Change to the Products\doswin32 directory, and then enter INSTALL 4. Press Enter to accept the License Agreement. 5. Select the options you want to install on the workstation. 6. Press F10 to continue. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 27

To return to the previous screen or to cancel the installation, press Esc at any time before install begins copying files. 7. Configure the options you are installing. Depending on the options you have chosen, various configuration screens appear. Use the arrow keys to move to a new field and press Enter to edit the field. 8. Press F10 to save your changes and continue. 9. Depending on the type of network board you have installed in the workstation, select the 16-bit or 32-bit LAN driver type. 10. Review the Installation Configuration Summary and make necessary changes by using the arrow keys to move to a new field and pressing Enter to edit the field. 11. Press F10 to continue. Install copies the appropriate files to your workstation and sets up the workstation to run the Novell Client software. 12. Exit Install by pressing Enter to return to DOS or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot the workstation. The Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x software does not load until the workstation restarts. 28 Installation and Administration

Installing Clients from the Network If you plan to install the Novell Client software on multiple workstations, you can install from the network by copying files to the server and modifying the login script. One network installation method is explained here. There are additional network installation options that might better suit your networking environment. You should evaluate these methods before deciding which is best for you. See Other Network Installation Options on page 38. Even if your network has workstations on multiple platforms, you can install and upgrade the client software on all platforms when users log in. The process requires five tasks: 1. Create a folder on the NetWare server. 2. Copy Novell Client files and other required files to this folder (workstations can then read the files during login). 3. Grant rights to the new folder. 4. Create or update the appropriate configuration file (install.cfg, setup.ini, nwsetup.ini, or unattended.txt file) for each platformspecific client. 5. Create or modify the appropriate login script. Let users know in advance about the upgrade so they understand what is happening and why their working environment is changing. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 29

Create a Folder 1. Log in to a server as Admin or as a user with Admin equivalence. You need rights to copy files to a network folder that all users can access. You also need rights to modify login scripts. 2. Create a folder. For example, create a client folder in the SYS:\PUBLIC network folder. SYS:\PUBLIC\CLIENT Copy Files 1. From the Products directory on the Novell Client CD-ROM, copy the WINNT, WIN95, DOSWIN32, and AdM32 directories to the new folder. If you are installing the client in only one language or your network does not have enough space to accommodate multiple language directories, you can delete the language directories you do not need from the NLS directory under each client directory. To ensure that you have all necessary files, copy the entire client directory and then delete only the extra language directories. 2. (Conditional) If you are installing the Novell Client for Windows 95/98, copy Windows 95.cab files to the Win95 directory. The files are on the Microsoft Windows 95/98 CD (and Upgrade CD) in the Win95 folder. 3. (Conditional) If you are installing the Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x and you will be using the DOS installation utility (install.exe), create a Log directory in the new folder. The login script executes commands that create a log file in the Log directory. The log file indicates if the client update was successful. 30 Installation and Administration

Grant Rights 1. Create a Group object called Client in the NDS tree. 2. Place into that group users whose workstations need to be installed or upgraded. 3. Make sure that the group has Read and File Scan rights to the new folder you created. If you created the new folder in SYS:\PUBLIC, the new folder should have Read and File Scan rights already associated with it, but you should make sure that these rights have not been changed. You can grant rights by using NetWare Administrator. Update Configuration Files If you are using the default settings to install the clients, you do not have to create or modify the configuration files. You can bypass this process and proceed to Create or Modify the Login Script on page 34. Each platform-specific installation utility reads a configuration file in order to get information such as where to copy drivers during installation and what is the most recent version number. This file must be placed in the same folder as the installation utility. Platform Windows 95/98 Windows NT Windows 3.1x DOS Configuration File Nwsetup.ini and a Novell Install Managergenerated text file Novell Install Manager-generated text file Setup.ini Install.cfg Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 31

Updating Windows 95/98 and Windows NT Configuration Files You can use Novell Client Install Manager, a GUI-based utility, to configure the client properties. This method eliminates your having to configure each workstation manually. Once you have created the configuration file with Install Manager, use the /U command line parameter in the login script to call the configuration file and set the properties. To create a configuration file using Novell Client Install Manager, complete the following steps. 1. Start the Novell Client Install Manager (nciman.exe). For Windows 95/98, the Install Manager is located in the SYS:\PUBLIC\CLIENT\WIN95\IBM_LANGUAGE\ADMIN directory you copied to the server. For Windows NT, the Install Manager is located in the SYS:\PUBLIC\CLIENT\WIN95\IS386\ADMIN directory you copied to the server. 2. Do one of the following: For Windows 95/98, click File > New File > Windows 95 to create a new file. For Windows NT, click File > New File > Windows NT to create a new file. 3. Modify the installation options as needed. 3a. In the Installation options list box, double-click the configuration option you want to modify. 3b. In the property pages, set the parameters and then click OK. The values you set appear in the right list box. 3c. (Conditional) If you change properties for Novell Client for Windows NT or Windows 95/98 and intend to use the configuration file created with Novell Client Install Manager to upgrade existing client software, you must change the major or minor version parameter. If you are installing for the first time, proceed to Step Installation and Administration

The client is updated only if the version numbers have changed. If the version numbers have not changed, even if parameters have been changed in the configuration file, the client and the new properties will not be changed. For Novell Client for Windows NT, change the version number with Novell Client Install manager by clicking Installation > Client and increasing the major or minor parameter by one or more. For Novell Client for Windows 95/98, you must change the version number in the nwsetup.ini file. Open nwsetup.ini and search for the ClientVersion section. The version number consists of four numbers, each separated by a decimal point (for example, ). The third number is the major version number; the fourth number is the minor version number. Increase either number by one to install a new version. You can set up one workstation the way you want all of the workstations set up, and then use Novell Client Install Manager to import the settings from that workstation s registry and save them to the configuration file you use during the installation. Once you set up the workstation, click File > Open Registry to import the settings into Novell Client Install Manager. 4. Click File > Save. You can save the file with any filename you want to use. For example, you could rename the file unatt_95.txt. 5. Copy this file to one of the following directories: SYS:PUBLIC\CLIENT\WIN95\IBM_LANGUAGE directory (for Windows 95/98) SYS:PUBLIC\CLIENT\WINNT\I386 directory (for Windows NT) This file is then used in conjunction with the /U command line parameter in the login script to call the configuration file and set the properties during installation. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 33

Updating DOS and Windows 3.1x Configuration Files You can control the Windows-based install program (setup.exe) by modifying the setup.ini file, and you can control the DOS-based install program (install.exe) by modifying the install.cfg file. However, the defaults work fine for most installations. Detailed instructions can be found in the documentation on the Novell Client CD under Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x > Setting Up > Preparing to Install > Modifying the SETUP.INI File and Novell Client for DOS and Windows 3.1x > Setting Up > Preparing to Install > Modifying the INSTALL.CFG File. Sample configuration files are also provided in the documentation. Create or Modify the Login Script You need to modify login scripts for users whose workstations will be upgraded. To upgrade specific users workstations, modify those users login scripts. To upgrade workstations for users in a container, modify that container s login script. To upgrade workstations for users in a profile, modify that profile login script. To upgrade a workstation running bindery-based client software (such as Microsoft Client for NetWare Networks that ships with Windows 95/98), edit the system login script (sys:public\net$log.dat). You can do each of these tasks with NetWare Administrator. Creating or Modifying a Login Script with NetWare Administrator 1. Start Netware Administrator. 2. Using the browser, select the object whose login script you want to create or modify. 3. Click Object > Details > the Login Script page. 34 Installation and Administration

4. Enter the login script commands and information into the login script text box. For a sample of the login script commands you need to add to the scripts, see Sample Login Script on page 36. This sample login script is also available in a text file called INST_LOG.TXT on the CD-ROM in the Novdocs directory. Make sure you edit the sample login script to match the server names, directory paths, and specifications of your network. For additional information on all login script commands, see Login Script Commands or Using Login Script Commands in the online help or in the documentation. 5. To save the login script and close the Details dialog box, click OK. If the login script you just created was a container or user login script, you re finished and the client software will be installed or updated the next time the users log in. If the login script you just created was for a Profile object, continue with Step (Profile login scripts only) Using the browser, select the User object that needs to use the profile login script. 7. Click Object > Details > the Login Script page. 8. Enter the name of the Profile object in the Default Profile field located under the login script text box. 9. To save the Profile object name and close the Details dialog box, click OK. Now you must add the User object as a trustee of the Profile Object. 10. Using the browser, select the Profile object. 11. Click Object > Trustees of This Object > Add Trustee. 12. Enter the name of the User object that uses this Profile object. Chapter 5: Installing Novell Client Software 35

13. Make sure the Browse object right and the Read property right are checked, and then click OK to assign these rights to the User object. The User object is now a trustee of the Profile object and has the rights necessary to run the profile login script. Repeat these steps for all users who need to use this script. Sample Login Script If you are using this sample script to replace the Microsoft Client with the Novell Client for Windows 95/98, some user intervention is necessary. Due to Microsoft s limited scripting capabilities, users must close an open DOS box before the workstation is restarted and the installation is completed. If you are installing the Novell Client for Windows 95/98 on a new workstation or are upgrading an existing client, no user intervention is necessary. This is not an issue for Windows NT. In this sample, the information that is necessary to the script is represented in all capital letters. The information you should customize for your network is in lowercase letters. Some lines in this sample have been artificially divided to accommodate the printed page. These artificial breaks should be removed when the script is placed in the user s login script. See the sample login script available in a text file called inst_log.txt on the CD-ROM in the Novdocs directory for a script that does not contain artificial line breaks. 36 Installation and Administration

Other Network Installation Options There are additional network installation options that might better suit your networking environment. You should evaluate these methods before deciding which is best for you. The following section gives a brief overview of the other network installation methods and information on where to find complete documentation about them. Installing with Z.E.N.works Z.E.N.works TM, or Zero Effort Networking, is an integrated set of products for managing workstations and user desktops while reducing the total cost of ownership. Z.E.N.works includes Application Launcher, a component that lets you distribute applications such as the client software to workstations and manage those applications as objects in the NDS tree. Users do not need to worry about workstation configurations, drives, ports, command line parameters, application source directories, or whether they have the latest upgrade. You, as the administrator, manage such issues easily and centrally from NetWare Administrator. 38 Installation and Administration

In order to use Z.E.N.works, you must manage your network from a 32- bit workstation, such as Windows 95/98 or Windows NT. Not all of Z.E.N.works application and desktop management features are available on a Windows 3.1x workstation. Additional Windows 95/98 Installation Options You can use the following methods to install Novell Client for Windows 95/98 software: MSBATCH Use this option to install and configure Novell Client for Windows 95/98 without your having to be present. 71 Managing the Server Managing the server involves viewing and monitoring server activity. The server console includes the monitor and keyboard where you view and control NetWare server activity. From the server console you can Configure and optimize the server Maintain the server Manage server volumes Shut down and restart the server Configure and Optimize the Server Table 7-2 Utilities for Managing Your Server You can use the server console or RCONSOLE running at a remote workstation to configure and optimize your server. The utilities you will use most often are INSTALL, MONITOR, SERVMAN, and SET. The following table describes the tasks that you can do using these utilities. Utility INSTALL Tasks you can do Install and upgrade the server Modify the server configuration Perform some management operations with disks and volumes MONITOR View server activity Lock the console Assess server RAM and CPU utilization statistics Set server parameters SERVMAN View and configure system parameters View volume, storage, network, adapter, device, and disk partition information SET View and configure operating system parameters Chapter 7: Managing Your Network 53

Each of these utilities except SET is a NetWare Loadable Module TM (NLM TM ) that must be loaded at the server in order to use it. When loaded, an NLM is dynamically linked to the operating system, and the server allocates a portion of memory to it. The amount of memory an NLM uses depends on the task it performs. The NLM uses server memory to perform a task, and then returns control of the memory to the operating system when the NLM is unloaded. Therefore, if an NLM is not needed, we recommend that you unload it so the server will have as much memory as possible to run programs. You load and unload NLM programs at the console prompt. 1. To load an NLM, enter LOAD NLM name where NLM name is the name of the NLM. For example, if you want to load MONITOR.NLM, enter the following: LOAD MONITOR 2. To unload an NLM, enter UNLOAD NLM name where NLM name is the name of the NLM. For example, if you want to unload MONITOR.NLM, enter the following: UNLOAD MONITOR For more information about these utilities and how to use them, see the NetWare 4 online documentation > Reference > Utilities Reference > Utility > INSTALL, MONITOR, SERVMAN, or LOAD. Maintain the Server In order to maintain your server, you might need to perform some additional tasks. Table 7-3 lists some of the tasks with the utility or command most often used to perform the task. For complete 54 Installation and Administration

Create a NetWare Server Volume If you add a new hard disk to your server, you can create a new volume. You can create a new volume on any hard disk that has a NetWare partition and an existing volume SYS:. 56 Installation and Administration

If you add a hard disk, you must first create a NetWare partition using INSTALL, then create the volume and mount it so it is recognized by the network. For procedures on creating NetWare server volumes, see NetWare 4 online documentation > Contents > Supervising the Network > Maintaining the NetWare Server > Maintaining Volumes. Mount a CD-ROM as a Volume Mounting a CD-ROM as a volume allows all users on the network to read the contents of the CD-ROM rather than just one user. For example, your users can access the online documentation or any other documentation or program from CD-ROM by mounting the server s CD-ROM as a volume. Another advantage of mounting a CD-ROM as a volume is to load programs to the server from the CD-ROM. To mount a CD-ROM as a volume, do the following. 1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 2. At the server console, enter LOAD CDROM 3. (Optional) Enter CD DEVICE LIST A list of CD-ROM devices attached to the server appears. This step is optional if you already know the name of the CD- ROM. Chapter 7: Managing Your Network 57

4. Enter CD MOUNT volume name or number volume name is the name given to the CD-ROM device by the operating system number is the number assigned to the CD-ROM device by the operating system. For example, CD MOUNT NWSB_DOC To install a product to the server from a CD-ROM, do the following. 1. Insert the product CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive on the server. 2. Mount the CD-ROM as a volume. 3. At the server console, enter LOAD INSTALL 4. From the Installation Options menu, select Product Options. 5. Select View/Configure/Remove Installed Products. 6. Press Ins > select Install to install a new product. 7. Press F3 to supply a path to the installation software. 58 Installation and Administration

Shut Down and Restart the Server Shut Down a Server Occasionally, you might need to shut down a server to perform maintenance work or to upgrade hardware. When you shut down a server, you remove the server from the network, thus preventing users from accessing the server and any data or resources assigned to it. To bring down the server, do the following. 1. At the console prompt, send a message to all users informing them they should close all files and log out of the server. For example, at the console prompt enter SEND Please close files and log out from server servername. SEND Servername going down in 5 minutes. where server name is the name of the server you are going to bring down. 2. When you are ready to shut down the server, enter DOWN at the server console prompt. If any files are open, the console displays a list of the files, the users who have the files open, and the workstation connection numbers. If the workstations are unattended, you might need to go to the workstations that have open files and close the files for the users. 3. Enter EXIT at the server console prompt. Restarting the Server After shutting down a server, you will need to start it again by doing the following. 1. Change to the startup directory (usually C:\nwserver) 2. At the DOS prompt, enter SERVER Chapter 7: Managing Your Network 59

Managing Client Workstations Most of the tasks to manage the clients involve setting up, upgrading, or troubleshooting them. The Novell Client software that is installed with this product has extensive documentation to help you set up, manage, and troubleshoot client workstations. You can find this information in the online documentation by clicking Contents > Novell Clients > client information applicable to the client installed on the workstation. Or you can access client documentation on the Novell Client CD-ROM. If you need to upgrade your client software, you can get new software from the Novell Web site at 60 Installation and Administration

chapter 8 Accessing and Using the Network Managing the network requires you to manage the way users access the network and use the resources available on the network. This means you should manage such things as how users connect to the network, passwords, rights and other security issues. To be able to do this, you will need to know how do the following tasks: Access the server Access the network from a workstation View network connections Change passwords on the server and workstation Set viewing preferences Accessing the Server You can control and manage the server at the server console using server commands. After the server is installed and loaded, using these commands will assist you in performing various tasks required to manage the network. For a list of the most common tasks and commands that can be used at the server console to manage the server, see Table 7-3 on page 55. Chapter 8: Accessing and Using the Network 61

Getting Help at the Server Console If you are at the server console prompt and are unsure how to use a command, do the following: 1. Enter Help command name where command name specify the name command for which you want help. 2. (Optional) If you are unsure about the command name, enter HELP A list of command names for which you can get help will be displayed. Accessing and Moving around in the Network When performing administration tasks from your workstation, how you access the network and server depends on the type of workstation you will be using. You and your users will be accessing the network and moving around in it on a daily basis. The table at the end of this chapter lists the common task that you and your users might need, including the following: Logging in to the network from a workstation Logging in enables your computer to use the resources available on the network, such as files, printers, and messaging. Requiring users to log in enables you to maintain certain levels of security on the network and to set up their computers with the network connections they need. When you log in, the server determines the rights you have on the network, based on your username, password, and other system information. Logging out of the network from a workstation Switching to a different NDS context 62 Installation and Administration

chapter 9 Managing Users and Groups Before users can use the resources on the network, they must be added to the NDS TM tree. For example, if a printer is set up on the network, a user cannot print to that printer until an object for that printer has been created and added to the NDS tree and the user has been given access to the printer. If users in your company will be sharing common resources on the network, you will want to create a group for those users. Then, when you add an object such as a printer, you can assign the group rights to print to that printer. When you log into the network the first time as user ADMIN, the QuickStart utility launches and asks whether you want to create the groups and users for your network. If you chose not to at that time, or if you have additional groups and users you want to add to your network, you can do so in several ways. Using the Novell Easy Administration Tool TM (NEAT), you can Add users and groups to your network Edit properties associated with the users and groups Make printers available to users and groups Edit properties associated with the printers, including changing the configuration If your environment requires a customized solution that is not provided using NEAT, see the NetWare 4 online documentation > Contents > Supervising the Network > Managing Groups of User Objects for information about creating and managing these objects using NetWare Administrator. Chapter 9: Managing Users and Groups 65

Advantages of Groups Group accounts simplify the management of users access to network directories, files, and printers. Instead of making assignments to each user, you can create a group, add users with similar network needs to the group, and manage all users access needs through the group. Any individual differences can still be managed through a separate user account. The user still has access to both individual and group assignments and the user can belong to as many groups as necessary. Only users who appear in the Directory view can be added to a group. If you need to include a user who does not yet have a network account, you can add the user to the network while creating the group using NEAT. Alternatively, you can create the group and add the user to the group later. Editing User or Group Properties When you create users or groups, there are properties assigned to them. Those properties can be viewed or edited using NEAT or NetWare Administrator. This document tells you about the tasks you can do using NEAT. The online Help for NEAT contains the procedures for doing the task. For additional information about NetWare Administrator, see the online Help. Whenever a user or group is highlighted in the Directory view of NEAT, properties related to user or group accounts are displayed in the Property view on the right side of the NEAT window. User properties are organized in tabs known as Property views and include these headings: General, Groups, Security, Login Script, and GroupWise. Group properties are also organized in tabs known as Property views and include these headings: Users and Security. Table 9-1 describes basic administration tasks you can do for users and groups, indicates which item must be selected in the Directory view, and which Tab or icon to click to perform the task. The step by step procedures for doing the tasks are located in the online Help. 66 Installation and Administration

Deleting a User If you delete a User object, that user no longer exists on the network. If other objects rely on this User object, those objects will no longer have the functionality. For example, if user Bob Jones has been assigned as the owner of a License Certificate, and you delete Bob, he is the only user who can Chapter 9: Managing Users and Groups 67

change the ownership of the license. You would want to make sure that Bob transferred the ownership before you delete his user id. Deleting or Renaming a Group When deleting groups, take care that you do not inadvertently remove groups you need, because their associated properties and relationships with other objects are also deleted. For example, if you delete a group, all assignments made to that group are deleted for all users in the group. Users no longer have access to the applications, printers, and directories that they shared as members of the group. Viewing or Changing File System Rights You can view or change file system rights, using NEAT, NetWare Administrator, or using Window properties. For the procedures, see the applicable online Help for each tool. For more information about file system rights, see File System Rights on page 76 or see the NetWare 4 online documentation > Contents > Supervising the Network > Managing Directories, Files, and Applications > Making the File System Secure and Accessible. Creating or Modifying Login Scripts Using login scripts, you can automatically connect users to files, printers, and other network resources needed for their production environment. If several users access the same resources, you can put the script commands in the container login script. Some Novell application tools might eliminate the need for a login script. When you click the Login Script tab in NEAT, a user login script is opened that you can modify. (Users can modify it if you give them rights to do so). This script contains a mapping to the SYS:PUBLIC directory and the user s home directory. If you change the home directory, a new map will be added automatically to the login script. 68 Installation and Administration

Use login scripts to connect your users workstations to network resources whenever users log in to the network. With login scripts, you can Map drives and search drives Redirect print jobs to network print services Display greetings or messages to the users workstation screens Set environment variables Execute programs or menus at startup Login Script Types Table 9-2 Login Script Types NetWare includes several types of login scripts. With this version of the software, you probably need to use only container and user scripts. For example, if you are using drive mappings with MAP and printer port redirection with CAPTURE (two uses of login scripts that are built in) on Windows 95/98 and Novell Client, editing the login scripts might be unnecessary. Refer to the following table for a description of login script types. Type Container Default User Description Runs first and provides global assignments for all users associated with the container (Organization object). Runs when a user script does not exist. Runs last. Use it to customize the environment for a single user. When a user is created in NEAT, mappings to the user s home directory and to the SYS:PUBLIC directory on the server are added to the user s login script. Chapter 9: Managing Users and Groups 69

Recommendations We recommend using container scripts for company resources, such as printers and applications, in cases where every employee in the company needs access to them. We recommend using user scripts for users who need access to a specific application or other resource that other company employees do not need. When a user logs in to the network, the commands in the container script run first. The commands in the user script run next, and they override any conflicting commands in the container login script. The user script is customized for each user and should be tailored to the user s needs. 70 Installation and Administration

chapter 10 Managing the NetWare File System Working in files on the network instead of working in files on a hard drive offers distinct advantages: Users have a backup file in case their workstation hard drive becomes corrupted. Users can copy files back and forth from their workstation hard drive to a network drive in seconds. Users can share each others files if they have rights. Saving files on the network frees up disk space on a workstation hard drive. Chapter 10: Managing the NetWare File System 71

How the NetWare File System Is Structured The NetWare file system is similar to the system of directories (or folders) that store files on a workstation s hard drive. The difference is that files can be stored on the server and accessed through network drives (F: through Z:). Network drives and the files they store can then be accessed by any network user who has been given rights to read or write to the directory or file. In addition to directories and files, an additional level--volumes--is added. Volumes Directories Subdirectories File NetWare Server In the Novell Easy Administration Tool TM (NEAT), the file system structure starts with a Volume object in your Directory view. Under the volume, you can create directories, subdirectories, and files such as data and application files. In the Directory view, for example, the Volume object icon, such as DEMO_SYS, looks like a file cabinets. The contents of the volume is only viewable from Windows (by double-clicking volume SYS folder), or when you create a directory in NEAT as shown in Figure Installation and Administration

Figure 10-1 File System When the network is installed, volume SYS is automatically created in the NDS tree and contains login utilities. Table 10-1 lists the contents of volume SYS. Table 10-1 Volume SYS Contents Directory Name Deleted.sav Etc Grpwise Login Mail Contents Contains all the network files that have been deleted. This directory is created when you delete a network file. Contains sample files to help configure the server for TCP/IP protocols. Contains the files necessary to run the GroupWise client. Contains the files that make logging into the network possible. Contains subdirectories and files related to . Depending on which application you use, this directory could be empty initially.
