4 MapMarker Overview MapMarker is available as Desktop and Developer (Server) editions for Windows and UNIX/Linux. MapMarker Desktop Edition The Desktop edition includes the Desktop Application, which includes the graphical user interface for geocoding addresses and the MapMarker Address Dictionary. You can purchase data for all 50 states (plus D.C. and Puerto Rico), regional state bundles, or individual state data. The Desktop Application runs on Microsoft Windows only. See Supported Operating Systems on page 5. MapMarker Developer Edition The Developer (Server) edition enables multiple simultaneous geocoding requests to be served from a single MapMarker engine. It also includes the tools necessary for developing MapMarker solutions using the Java API or XML API. These tools include the MapMarker SDK, native code libraries, and examples. A preconfigured Apache Tomcat servlet is provided to run MapMarker as a geocoding server. The Developer Edition runs on Windows and UNIX/Linux. MapMarker Software License for Developer Edition A MapMarker Developer (Server) installation requires a machine-specific license. The Desktop edition does not require this. To get a Developer license from Pitney Bowes, you will need to generate a license request file prior to installation and submit it to Pitney Bowes Client Service at clientservicepbs@pb.com. In return you will receive a license. Copy it to a location on your machine prior to starting the installation. The utility to create the license request file is called License Assistant and is provided in the media with the software. The executable on Windows is called licassist.exe; on UNIX/Linux is licassist. For instructions on how to run the License Assistant utility see licassist.txt in the folder with the License Assistant utility. When you run the License Assistant utility, we collect the following information: System Id: machine/host id or MAC address depending on the OS CPU count Hostname Machine Info: String describing the OS, such as "Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)" For more information on licensing, see Troubleshooting License File Errors on page 12. 5 Operating Requirements This section describes the hardware, memory and other requirements for MapMarker USA v30. Hardware and Memory The minimum system requirements for MapMarker on a full installation of the Desktop application and MapMarker Developer edition are: Dual Core processor or better 4 GB RAM 10 GB available disk space For optimal performance we recommend more processing power. Many factors can affect performance, including network speed, hardware, number of concurrent users, number of address/user dictionaries, geocoding preferences, and quality of input addresses. Supported Operating Systems Desktop Application The MapMarker USA Desktop application runs on Microsoft Windows only. The Desktop is a 32-bit application, but runs on 64-bit Windows providing that 32-bit binaries are used. This works by default; the installer always configures 32-bit binaries. Microsoft Windows 2008 Server (32-bit and 64-bit) Microsoft Windows 2012 Server (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit) (Windows 8.1 recommended and will be required in subsequent updates) Developer Edition MapMarker USA Developer (Server) edition runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. The 32-bit versions will run on any supported 64-bit machine. MapMarker Server runs on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2008 Server (32 and 64-bit) Microsoft Windows 2012 Server (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit) (Windows 8.1 recommended and will be required in subsequent updates) Solaris 2.10 (32-bit) Solaris 2.11 (64-bit) MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 5

6 SUSE Linux 10 and 11 (64-bit) HP-UX 11.x (64-bit) Red Hat Linux 5.0 (64-bit) Red Hat Linux 6.1 (64-bit) Note: For Red Hat Linux 6.1 you must install all missing 32-bit system libraries, in addition to the default 64-bit libraries. JVM Requirements MapMarker USA requires a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.7 or higher. MapMarker installs v1.7 on Windows by default. For UNIX/Linux, you must install it manually. Note: If you install a 64-bit version of MapMarker USA you must also use a 64-bit JVM. Database Support MapMarker USA v30 supports the following ODBC databases and drivers. SQL Server 2005 SQL Server 2008 Microsoft Access 2010 MapMarker also supports the following Oracle drivers. Oracle 10G Release 2 Oracle 11 You must install the Oracle driver separately. To use the driver, you must have the Oracle client installed. Supported Web Application Servers The MapMarker server allows you to develop geocoding applications on any Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application server that supports JVM 1.7. 7 Installation Overview Note: You must have administrative privileges on your machine to install MapMarker. The MapMarker software installer will install the Desktop edition and Developer edition, provided the appropriate license is available, The Desktop edition is installed on Windows only. The Developer edition is installed on Windows or UNIX/Linux and requires a developer license. The MapMarker data installer will install datasets for the Address Dictionary for use with the Desktop and Developer editions. Installing MapMarker Software on Windows 1. Unzip MapMarker locally to access the installer. 2. Run MapMarkerUSASetup.exe to begin the installation. Follow the instructions provided at each screen. 3. At the Licensing screen, point to the location of your MapMarker license. Contact Customer Service if you need a license. 4. At the Destination screen, choose the location for MapMarker or accept the default. 5. At the Data folder screen, choose a location for the Address Dictionary (datasets). If you have not yet installed the data for the Address Dictionary, point to an empty folder and install the data after the software installation completes. 6. Click Install to finish the installation. 7. To start MapMarker Desktop, from the Start menu, navigate to the MapInfo > MapMarker USA 30 program group and click MapMarker Desktop. 8. To start MapMarker Server, click Start MapMarker Server (administrative privileges required). Running on 64-Bit Windows Operating Systems The default MapMarker installation is to install 32-bit binaries. Optionally, you can run MapMarker as a 64-bit server using the Geostan binaries and related files. These files are found in the <install_dir>/sdk/engine/bin64. You will need to manually configure this installation scenario. To configure MapMarker 64-bit: 1. Stop the MapMarker USA server if it is running. 2. Install a 64-bit Java JRE if you have not already done so. Version 1.7 or later is required. MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 7

8 3. Update the LIB_PATH in USA_DataManagerSettings.properties located in <install_dir>/sdk/tomcat/webapps/mapmarker40/web-inf/classes to point to <install_dir>/sdk/engine/bin If you are using a non-server application, update the LIB_PATH in USA_DataManagerSettings.properties located in sdk/engine/client. 5. Make backup copies of the Tomcat startup.bat and shutdown.bat located in <install_dir>/sdk/tomcat/bin. 6. Edit the two.bat files to set the path to JRE_HOME to the match the 64-bit JRE. 7. If needed, in startup.bat edit the CATALINA_OPTS entry to increase the maximum memory usage from the default of 256m to 512m. MapMarker USA v30 will consume more memory in a 64-bit environment. 8. Save and close the startup file. 9. Restart the MapMarker USA server. Installing MapMarker Software on UNIX/Linux 1. Be sure your system has JVM 1.7 or later installed. 2. Choose the appropriate.tar file for your operating system (HP, Solaris, Linux) and copy locally (for example, /opt/mmusa). 3. Extract: tar xvf <tarfilename>. 4. Run the License Assistant utility (licassist) found in the root directory to create a license request file and submit it to Pitney Bowes Client Service at clientservice-pbs@pb.com. You will receive a license in return . For instructions on using License Assistant, see the licassist.txt at the root of the untarred folder alongside the licassist utility. 5. Copy the license into the top level directory where the tar file was extracted. 6. Edit /sdk/tomcat/bin/setenv.sh to point to your JRE_HOME. 7. Edit /sdk/tomcat/webapps/mapmarker40/web- INF/classes/USA_DataManagerSettings.properties to point to your data path (Address Dictionary). 8. To start MapMarker, run the following script: sh <installdir>/sdk/tomcat/bin/startmm.sh. System Library Dependencies for UNIX Installations On UNIX/Linux systems, MapMarker USA requires standard system libraries that are used by the geocoding engine. While these standard libraries are available with every UNIX platform, they may not be found unless you install with the appropriate system option. MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 8

9 To determine which system libraries are needed on your UNIX system, run the ldd (list dynamic dependencies) command, which will print shared library dependencies. For example, to identify the library dependencies for MapMarker USA v30 (which uses the Geostan library), run: ldd <install_dir>/sdk/engine/bin/geostanmt.so This will return the MapMarker library dependencies for your UNIX system (Linux, Solaris, or HPUX). For example, if you installed a 30.1 update, the underlying geocoding engine is also updated (for example to ) Installing MapMarker Software Silently MapMarker can be installed silently on Windows with no user interaction. This is not available for UNIX/Linux installations. To run the silent installer on Windows: 1. From a command prompt, pass the following parameters to the MapMarkerUSASetup.exe: > MapMarkerUSASetup.exe /s /v"/qn LICENSE_FILE="c:\temp\mmusa.lic where the following required parameters are: MapMarkerUSASetup.exe /s /v"/qn - setup and installer flags MapMarker LICENSE_FILE - path to license file. 2. Include optional parameters as needed: /l*v "C:\temp\mm.log" - flag and path to a log file. Create the folder first and list the parameter after MapMarkerUSASetup.exe /s /v"/qn. INSTALLDIR - path to where you want MapMarker installed. MI_DATAPATH - path to where your data is (or will be). To validate the installer: 1. Create a script with a wait command and check ERRORLEVEL. > start /b /wait MapMarkerUSASetup.exe /s /v"/qn LICENSE_FILE="c:\temp\mmusa.lic" > echo %ERRORLEVEL% The first prompt will run the installer but wait until it is finished before returning to the prompt. The second prompt will display the last error level in the command window. 0 means the installation was successful. MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 9

10 Installing MapMarker Data on Windows MapMarker Installation Guide Data is a separate installation from software. You have two options to install data on Windows: Extract the contents of the downloaded media and run MapMarkerUSA<datavendor>Setup.exe. Extract the contents of the downloaded media and copy the data to your preferred location. Running MapMarkerUSA<datavendor>Setup.exe MapMarkerUSA<datavendor>Setup.exe will copy the extracted data to a location of your choice, either locally or to a network location. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\mapinfo\mapmarker_usa_data\<datavendor>. The network location can be specified as a mapped drive or UNC path. If you are running the data installer after an initial data installation, you will be asked to choose between updating or removing the data. An update will overwrite any existing files. To install to a different location, choose Remove and re-install the data. Installing MapMarker Data on UNIX/Linux Unzip the downloaded media and copy the files to a location of your choice. Installing DPV, LACS Link Link TM and Suite DPV, LACS Link and Suite Link are necessary for USPS CASS reporting. Copy the files from the downloaded media to a location where you have your street data. MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 10

11 Uninstalling MapMarker To uninstall MapMarker from Windows, use the Programs and Features from Control Panel. To uninstall MapMarker silently from Windows: from a command prompt type: MapMarkerUSASetup.exe /s /x /v/qn Note: There is no space between /v/qn. To uninstall MapMarker from UNIX/Linux: > rm -rf* at the folder root level. Starting MapMarker Starting the Desktop Application If you installed the Desktop Application feature of MapMarker, you can start the MapMarker Desktop as follows: From the Start Menu or the MapMarker program group, click the icon named MapMarker Desktop. The Desktop Application starts. Starting the MapMarker Server If you installed the MapMarker Web Application feature (available with the Developer Edition), start the MapMarker server as follows, depending on whether you are installing on Windows or on UNIX/Linux: On Microsoft Windows, from the Start Menu or the program group, click the icon named Start MapMarker Server. The MapMarker Server starts. On Solaris, Linux, or HP-UX, from the directory where you installed MapMarker, run: sh sdk/tomcat/bin/startmm.sh Note: On all operating systems, Administrator privilege is required to start the MapMarker Server. 12 A Troubleshooting License File Errors If you are missing a software license, or have an expired or invalid license, you may receive one of the following messages. Follow the suggested actions.

13 Software License Error Messages Error Message Invalid License Password or Invalid License file. License does not match the current machine. License specified does not exist. Software license has expired. Description and Corrective Action The license file is created with a default password. If it was created with a non-default password, this password can be specified in the USA_DataManagerSettings.properti es file. If the license file does not use the default password or the correct password is not specified in the properties file, you can receive this error. This is a very uncommon situation for end users. You may be using a v30 license with the wrong machine. Licenses are machine-specific. You must obtain a v30 license file from Customer Service. The license could not be found. Either there is no license or the license file (.lic) is not located in the expected area. This was a valid license file but it has expired. You will get an expired message only once. After that, the license is considered invalid and you will get the Invalid License error message. You must obtain a new license file from Customer Service. Additional Licensing Scenarios Following are some common scenarios that you may encounter with MapMarker USA v30 license management. Consider these solutions before you contact Pitney Bowes Customer Service for assistance. Installing with the wrong machine.lic file If you install with wrong machine.lic file, you will be able to install MapMarker USA v30 but not run it. After you obtain the correct license file for your machine, you can replace the.lic file in your Data folder with the correct license file. However, the LICENSE_FILE entry of the MapMarker USA 30 Installation Guide 13

14 USA_DataManagerSettings.properties files will be populated with the.lic file name that you originally installed. You must then edit USA_DataManagerSettings.properties in the following locations to resolve this. For Desktop installation: C:\Program Files (x86)\mapinfo\mapmarker_usa_v30\desktop For a Windows platform Server installation, edit the following two instances of the properties file: C:\Program Files (x86)\mapinfo\mapmarker_usa_v30\sdk\tomcat\ webapps\mapmarker40\web-inf\classes C:\Program Files (x86)\mapinfo\mapmarker_usa_v30\sdk\engine\lib\client For non-windows platforms: /opt/mapinfo/mapmarker_usa_v30/sdk/tomcat/webapps/mapmarker40/ WEB-INF/classes /opt/mapinfo/mapmarker_usa_v30/sdk/engine/lib/client/ For example, for a Server installation copy the correct machine-specific.lic file into your Data folder and edit the required properties files at the above mentioned locations as follows: LICENSE_FILE=C:/Program Files(x86)/MapInfo/MapMarker_USA_v30/ MapMarker_USA_v30_Data/mmusa_<MYMACHINE-NAME>.lic where MYMACHINE-NAME represents your unique machine name. Note that forward slashes must be used in properties files. For a Desktop installation, the.lic file is named mmusad_<mymachine-name.lic. Attempting to use a renamed license If you renamed your old license file as a v30 license file you will receive an error message.
