5 Chapter 1 Recovery Operating System When there are problems with operating system, the operating system can be recovered to the factory condition and other problems can be reduced by using the flash drive included. Please follow the steps below, 1.1 When you boot the computer, immediately press "F7" and Figure 1.1 would appear. Select the USB drive and press "Enter" to reboot. (PS: Confirm the displayed text since it may be different due to various USB drives) Figure 1.1 Turn on the device 5

6 1.2 Next the WinPE operating system would start running, then get to the Command line in WinPE. Figure 1.2 Command line in WinPE 1.3 Enter "disk part" command and execute, then get to the diskpart command mode. Figure 1.3 DiskPart command mode 6

7 1.4 Enter "disk part" command and execute. And check the number of device. (Under the normal condition, there will be a SATA HDD and a USB drive. Check the device If only one appears; this may inidciate that the drive is off or not connected properly.) Figure 1.4 Check the disk device 1.5 Enter "select disk 0" command and execute. The operating SATA HDD would be selected. Re-enter "list disk' command, and confirm whether the corrected SATA HDD is selected. (PS: 1. The selected disk would be marked with a star. 2. If the operating disk is not numbered "0", the disk number should be modified) Figure 1.5 Set the operating disk device 7

8 1.6 Enter " list volume " command and execute. Check the number of volumes. ( PS. There should be three volumes under normal condition; if not, check whether it is being modified into your own format.) Figure 1.6 Check the disk partition 1.7 Enter "select volume 0" command and execute. Now the operating volume would be indicated. Enter the "list volume" command, and make sure the volume is indicated correctly. (PS: 1. Now the indicated volume would be marked with a "*". Check the "volume" is the original operating C: drive, otherwise the system won't boot.) 2. If the operating volume not numbered "0", the volume number should be modified in the command.) 10 1.10 Enter "xcopy e:\leap\cpci-mb1001\xpe.img\english\*.* c:\ /e /h /q" command and execute. The operating system stored in USB drive will be transferred to the targeted volume in SATA HDD. (PS: 1. Make sure the USB drive and the target sector are correct to prevent operating errors. The current picture shows the USB drive and target volume as E: and C: drives, respectively. 2. The path will change by different device. Now take cpci-mb1001 as the example) Figure 1.10 Copy the operation system 1.11 Enter "bootsect /nt52 c:" command and execute. 11 1.12 Enter "wpeutil shutdown" command and execute. Shutdown and remove the USB device when the screen goes black. Figure 1.12 Close the WinPE 1.13 The operating system would be running immediately after you reboot the device. 11

13 Chapter 2 Questons and Answers 2.1 When the system was successfully restored and rebooted, "desktop.ini" would be opened in Notepad. Is this normal? Ans: This is normal. If you do not want to open the file automatically, please follow the steps below, a. Click START, and select All Programs-> Startup->desktop then click the right button on the mouse and select Delete (D). Please repeat this action twice. b. Reboot your computer. The file would not be opened again. 2.2 When the system was successfully restored and rebooted, does the driver still need to be re-installed? Ans: There is no need to install the driver for this system board again; however other devises and applications would have to be re-installed. 13
