3 About This Course Methodology in the Text Text and screen shots represent Pro Tools 10.0 with Complete Production Toolkit. Methodology in the Exercises Should be completed as students progress through the course. Can be completed using any Pro Tools system. Some exercises may require specialized (non-standard) plug-ins. Hardware Configurations No specific hardware requirements, but an Mbox Pro, 003, or similar interface with multiple channels of I/O is recommended. 23

7 Customizing Sessions with I/O Setup (2) I/O Setup Overview Label, Format, and Map signal paths Signal Path = A logical, named grouping of multiple inputs, outputs, or busses based on a specific channel format. Paths and I/O Setup Main Paths and Sub Paths can be added or deleted. Paths can be renamed for easier identification. Paths can be remapped to different sources or destinations. Paths can be activated or deactivated to manage I/O resources. Main Paths and Sub-Paths Main paths are groupings of inputs, inserts, or busses. Sub paths are signal paths within a main path (e.g., mono sub-paths within a main stereo path) 4-6 7

8 Customizing Sessions with I/O Setup (3) Using I/O Setup for Custom Labeling Rename and Redefine Paths Paths appear as input and output options in Pro Tools tracks Changes are stored with the session and the system Output Paths and Output Busses Output busses map to hardware output paths. Output busses and internal mix busses are displayed on the Bus page in I/O setup. Output busses display their corresponding output paths on the right

9 Customizing Sessions with I/O Setup (4) Importing and Exporting I/O Settings Click Export Settings at the bottom of I/O Setup Generates an I/O settings file (*.pio) Click Import Settings to import an I/O settings file Import only imports the I/O for the currently selected I/O Setup page Audition Paths Lets you specify an output path to use when previewing (auditioning) files in the Clip List or in a DigiBase browser (such as the Workspace browser) Set from the Output or Bus page of I/O Setup Default Output Bus Used to set a default output assignment for new tracks you create in a session Assignable from the Output or Bus page
