2 1.INTRODUCTION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE MODULE V2.0 The Programming Interface Module, along with the CANPower Programmer application allow the programming of all CANPower devices. This allows the users and installers to modify the settings of CANPower devices in order to tailor them to your use. The CANPower Programmer Application is available on our website at 2.INSTALLING CANPOWER PROGRAMMER 1. Check that you have the correct computer equipment first. You will require a PC with a USB connection that runs Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. MAC and Linux are not supported. This computer will also require an Internet connection in order to install the program. The Internet connection is not required to run the program, but will be required to install any product updates. Installation is show using the Internet Explorer browser. Installation will work with other browsers but the security warnings may be different. 2. Open your internet browser and go to the following URL: security windows will appear. Click Run on each one

3 Figure 1: Security Warnings. 4. Now another window will appear asking if you want to install the program. Click on the Install button. Figure 2: Application Install Prompt 5. CANPower Programmer will now be installed, and will start running straight away. The installation time will vary depending on your system, as other prerequisite components may have to be downloaded. Once the installation is complete a shortcut will have been added to your list of programs on the Start Menu, under Start > Ludo McGurk SVE > CANPower > CANPower Programmer V

4 CONNECTING THE PROGRAMMING INTERFACE MODULE TO YOUR PC 1. Connect one end of the supplied USB cable to the Programming Interface Module. 2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a free USB port on your computer. 3. At this point one of two things will happen, depending on your system. Your computer will detect that you have plugged in the Programming Interface Module, and try to install a driver for it. If your system already has a driver, then you will be presented with a message in the bottom right hand corner of your screen saying CANInterface V2.0 Was Successfully Installed. If your system does not have a driver then you will be presented with the following window: Figure 3: CANInterface V2.0 Driver Prompt 4. Select Install the Software Automatically as shown, and press next. Windows will now search for a driver to install, and then install the driver. Another prompt may appear which asks you if windows can connect to windows update to search for a driver. If so then press yes and windows will download a driver from the Internet

5 CONNECTING THE PROGRAMMING INTERFACE MODULE TO A CANPOWER DEVICE With CANPower Programmer installed on your computer, follow these steps to use the Programming Interface Module: 1. Connect one end of the supplied CAN-bus cable to the green connector on the Programming interface module. 2. The other end of the CAN-bus cable should be plugged into the device to be programmed. CANPower devices have 2 CAN-bus ports on one end (Figure ). Figure 4: CAN-bus ports For a single, standalone CANPower device, one of the ports should have a CANPower Termination Connector in it (Figure ). The other port should be empty. Figure 5: CANPower Termination Connector. Plug the Programming Interface module into the other port (i.e. the one on the right in Figure ). For a vehicle with multiple CANPower devices, which are daisy chained together as a CANPower system, connect to the end device on the system. One port should have the CANPower Termination Connector in it, and the other port should have a connection to the next device (Figure ). Figure 6: End device on a CANPower system

6 3. Remove the CANPower Termination Connector, and plug the Programming Interface Module into this port. You will now be able to program all devices connected to the system. 4. Start the CANPower Programmer on your computer. NOTE: CANPOWER DEVICES MUST BE POWERED FOR USE WITH THE PROGRAMMING INTERFACE MODULE. USING CANPOWER PROGRAMMER When you open CANPower Programmer, it automatically checks to see if any updates are available (). This should only take a moment. Figure 2: Checking for updates You will then be presented with the main CANPower Programmer window. You now need to open the connection to the Programming Interface Module. To do this press the button in the bottom right labelled Connect to Programming Interface Module. You should now be presented with a screen showing all the CANPower devices that the program has detected. You can now change the settings on the devices as required

7 WARRANTY All products of Ludo McGurk Transport Equipment Ltd. are warranted to be free of defects of material or workmanship. Liability is limited to repairing or replacing at our factory, without charge, any material or defects which become apparent in normal use during the warranty period as shown on the front of this manual. The warranty period runs from the date the equipment was originally shipped from Ludo McGurk Transport Equipment Ltd to you. Equipment is to be returned; shipping charges prepaid and will be returned after repair, return shipping charges paid. Ludo McGurk Transport Equipment Ltd shall have no liability for damages of any kind to associated equipment arising from the installation and /or use of any Ludo McGurk Transport Equipment Ltd products. The purchaser, by the acceptance of the equipment, assumes all liability for any damages, which may result from its installation, use or misuse, by the purchaser, his/her or its employees or others
