1 Using Adobe Flash Software The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Learner Course PowerPoint slides are packaged with Adobe Flash and will play using a Flash Player. This means you do not have to have PowerPoint installed on your computer to run this program. Sounds: To hear the sounds contained in videos or sound clips on certain slides, you will need to connect speakers to your computer. The following instructions will help you to open the files. Please read through and follow each step carefully. Difficulties encountered will need to be resolved by consulting your own facility s Information Technology department or the help screens on the Adobe Flash or Google Chrome websites. If using a PC computer with Windows 10 Double click on the Module Icon that you want to open ( movie is used as the file name instead of the module in this example). 2 STEP 5 Once you have selected, open with Internet Explorer, you may encounter a blank screen. Look for this warning (in the bottom or top) part of your screen and click on Allow blocked content. Or the message might say: To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options. Select Allow blocked content. If having difficulty getting Internet Explorer to work or you prefer to use Google Chrome If using a PC computer with Windows 8, 7, or XP Double click on the Module Icon that you want to open. The Google Chrome browser may be downloaded from the following web address: If asked, select the computer type, PC or Mac, and follow the instructions. If using a MAC computer, your ability to play a Flash file is a combination of having an updated version of Adobe Flash installed and using a browser that has the plugin for Flash installed. Follow steps 1, 2, and 3 to install both the Flash Player and the Google Chrome browser. Note, if you already have both installed, skip steps 1, 2, and 3 and go to step 4. STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 Download the Flash Player When you go to this web address, the Adobe Flash Player website will automatically recognize your computer and should select the correct download option for you. Confirm you have the system requirements to run Google Chrome on a Mac (or PC if you prefer to use this browser). System Requirements for Using Google Chrome If you have the system requirements (as outlined in the table below), Install Google Chrome The Google Chrome browser is builtin with Flash. To successfully open these files, you will need to download and install Google Chrome from Windows requirement Mac requirements Operating system Windows XP Service Pack Mac OS X or later 2+ Windows Vista Windows 7, 8, 10 Processor Intel Pentium 4 or later Intel Free disk space / RAM 100 MB / 128 MB Once the Flash Player and Google Chrome are Installed RIGHT CLICK on the Flash file Module icon and you will see the following Step 4 Open With (choose the program you want to use to open this file) Next you will see: If Google Chrome is an option, choose Google Chrome If Google Chrome is not an option that is showing, click on Open With, then select Other 3

When you select Other, this screen appears: STEP 6 If you don t already have Google Chrome installed on your computer, make sure Google Chrome has been downloaded and installed before you do this step. 1) Change to All Applications. 2) Notice how the items in the Applications List are now activated so you can select the one you need, which is Google Chrome 4

5 STEP 7 1. Select Google Chrome 2. Click Always Open With Then click Open (bottom right of the screen, step 3) The Flash File should then open on your screen. Ignore the caution warning below the Always Open With 3. The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program does not have an IT department that can help troubleshoot difficulties opening the PowerPoint Flash files. We have extensively tested this software and have provided the necessary instructions to successfully open the Flash files. Oftentimes, the problem is with your own hardware.
