9 CHAPTER 1 Getting Started Quick Start Guide Welcome to IntelliTrack DMS. Your DMS software contains workstation, CE batch, and RF support. DMS CE Batch applications are included with your DMS software. DMS CE Batch applications are installed on portable devices. When you use DMS CE Batch applications, you are able to perform application functions such as inventory counts and item issue or receive from a portable device. Because you are using a batch device, you must use Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) software to connect the PC to the device and perform workstation application data download to the device and batch application data upload from the device via this connection. IntelliTrack software uses remote data access (RDA) for workstation and CE batch database communication. If you plan to use DMS CE Batch, you must perform installation prerequisites. DMS RF Server is included with DMS Check In-Out, Fixed Assets, Inventory, and Stockroom; it is not included with DMS Package Track. DMS RF Server is installed on your workstation. When you use DMS RF with the Telnet option, you are able to use Windows CE Symbol devices to connect to the RF Server application on the PC and perform application functions such as inventory counts and item issue or receive from the portable device. Because you are using the DMS RF Server and a RF device connection, the workstation data is updated with the portable data in real-time (there is no data download or upload process). When you use DMS RF with terminal emulation, it requires terminal emulation software setup and device configuration. Before you begin installing your DMS software, it is important to determine which DMS application you are installing and if you are using CE Batch devices or RF devices with your software. When you use DMS CE Batch applications, DMS installation contains important prerequisites that must be completed BEFORE you install DMS. Please refer to DMS CE Batch Installation Setup on page 19. 1

10 IntelliTrack DMS v8.1 When you use DMS RF applications, RF terminal emulation setup is required after you install DMS. Please refer to your RF Help (Start > All Programs > IntelliTrack > DMS > DMS Application > RF Server) for more information about terminal emulation setup. We encourage you to read through this guide BEFORE you install your DMS v8.1 software; it contains important system setup and upgrade information, installation instructions, CE batch portable installation instructions, and DMS software registration and activation instructions. Upgrade Process If you are upgrading to DMS v8.1 from a previous version, consult the next chapter, Upgrade Information on page 13. It contains important upgrade instructions and considerations. When you click Next at this window, setup checks for.net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. If.NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is not detected on your PC, a message appears telling you that.net Framework needs to be installed. Click OK to install it. An Insert Installation Disk #2 dialog appears, prompting you to install Disk #2 and then click OK. Setup extracts the.net Framework installation files and installs.net Framework. This may take several minutes. After installation, a reboot of your PC may be required. After the reboot, remove Disk #2 from the CD-ROM drive and reinsert Disk #1. Restart DMS setup by browsing to the DMSSetup.exe file on Disk #1 of CD and double-clicking on it. Follow the prompts in the installation setup wizard. At the Required Software needed for IntelliTrack DMS screen, click Next. Setup checks for the IntelliTrack License Service. 5. After setup completes the IntelliTrack License Service check, the Configure IIS window appears. This window contains an option to automatically configure IIS. If you using an Automatic IIS RDA setup option, mark the Automatically Configure IIS check box; the Intelli- Track Create IIS Dependencies Utility will automatically configure IIS for IntelliTrack CE Batch communication during installation setup if IIS is installed and configured properly. (Internet Information Services (IIS) is a Remote Data Access component that must be installed on your local computer or on a remote server in your network when you use the CE Batch application with your DMS software. For more information about the RDA setup options supported by IntelliTrack, please refer to RDA Setup Categories on page 31.) If you are unsure about this setting, we recommend that you mark this check box. When you are ready to continue, click Next. 6. The SQL Server Information for DMS window appears. Enter the database name, SQL Server name/instance (if applicable) and specify your administrator server login information at this screen. Please note that if this is a workstation installation, you must already have SQL Server and the database installed on your network. SQL Server field: (LOCAL) is automatically filled in by the installation wizard. If SQL Server is not installed on your system, use the 46

55 Quick Start Guide default server name as entered by the installation wizard; in this case, setup will install SQL Server 2008 Express. If SQL Server is already installed on your system, enter the Server name\instance (if applicable) in this field, and the installation routine will use this existing SQL Server. Please note that if setup cannot detect your existing server\instance as specified OR if you don t have SQL Server on your system, setup will install SQL Server 2008 Express (applies to full or server options). Database: The name of the database is automatically entered by the installation wizard in this field. If this is a new installation, accept the default database name; setup will create this database. If you want to name the database something else, note that the database may not function properly if special characters or spaces are used in the database name; hence, do not include special characters (dashes, punctuation, or quotes) or spaces in the database name. If you are using an existing database, you must enter the correct database name in the Database field in order for setup to use it. If setup cannot find your existing database, it will create a new one. If you do not know the name of your existing database, please contact your network administrator. (If you are an upgrading customer, make sure that you have backed up your existing database and have run the appropriate upgrade script(s) BEFORE continuing with the installation; please refer to Upgrading your Data on page 15.) Username and Password: You must specify your SQL Server administrator login information at this screen. Provide your server login information in the Username and Password fields. If you do not have SQL Server already installed, use the default username (sa) and password, IntelliTrack#2008 for server login. If you already have SQL Server installed on your system and you have another SQL Server administrator login username and password, enter this information in the Username and Password fields, respectively. (Setup will use the default SQL Authentication login information unless you specify otherwise.) Please note that SQL Server requires a strong password. For more information on strong password requirements, please see SQL Server Strong Password Requirement on page

56 IntelliTrack DMS v8.1 You have the option to use NT Authentication for logging into SQL Server. If you use NT Authentication for SQL Server login, mark the NT Authentication check box. If you are unsure if your system uses NT Authentication, check with your system administrator. If this is a new installation and you do not have SQL Server already installed on your system, we recommend using the default settings at this screen: this will install the default instance of SQL Server 2008 Express using SQL Authentication for SQL Server login on your system and it will create a new database. If you are unsure about any of the Server settings or the Database name, contact your system adminstrator. When you are ready to continue, click Next. 7. The IntelliTrack License Service window appears. The license service manages the registration and activation for IntelliTrack DMS. Intelli- Track DMS requires one copy per network of the license service. If the license service is not found on your network, mark the Install the IntelliTrack License Service on this computer check box to install the license service on the PC. Accept the default License Service Port, which is 15313, or enter the TCP/IP port on which the IntelliTrack License Service will run.
