To recover an earlier version of the file, use File Browser. Warning: When considering synchronizing data in existing folders, especially when the folders already contain data, verify that you want them synchronized. If you want the data to be separate, creating another directory or share that is not synchronized might be preferable. Note: If you create a large directory structure on the Nasuni Desktop Client and then immediately attempt to rename a file or folder in that structure, you might receive a message that a file or folder is currently open by another process. This is expected behavior. To add files or folders to the Nasuni Filer, follow these steps: 1. Copy files or folders. 2. Navigate to the target directory you selected in step 4 on page Within the target directory, navigate to the folder where you want to add files or folders. 4. Paste the copied files or folders in the target directory. On this display, there are several different kinds of icons: Green with checkmark: This folder or file has been synchronized with the Nasuni Filer. Red with exclamation point: This folder or file has not been synchronized with the Nasuni Filer. You can verify that any added files or folders are present on the Nasuni Filer by using the File Browser feature of the Nasuni Filer user interface or the Nasuni Management Console user interface, after the synchronization takes place. 25

26 Using the Nasuni Desktop Client (Linux) After the Nasuni Desktop Client is installed and configured, you can use it to easily copy files to and from the Nasuni Filer. Warning: The Nasuni Desktop Client is intended for single user systems. Do not use it for multiple users on the same system. Warning: Even if Case-Sensitive Paths is enabled for a share, file and folder names might be treated as case-insensitive. That is, file names such as ABCD.txt and Abcd.txt might be judged as identical. Avoid file and folder names that are caseinsensitive versions of other file and folder names. Warning: Because certain file names can be regarded as special, such as AUX, LPT1, and names containing special characters, avoid using such files with the Desktop Client. Using files or folders from the Nasuni Filer In step b on page 18 you selected a source share on the Nasuni Filer. Any files or folders in that source share are available in the target directory you selected in step b on page 18. To use files or folders from the Nasuni Filer, follow these steps: 1. Navigate to the target directory you selected in step b on page Within the target directory, navigate to the files or folders you want to use. 3. You can perform actions on any of these files or folders, including opening, copying, and deleting. Note: The specific results of some actions depend on the Connection Direction chosen in step b on page

27 Adding files or folders to the Nasuni Filer Any files or folders that you add to the target directory you selected in step b on page 18 are automatically transferred to the source share on the Nasuni Filer that you selected in step b on page 18. Note: The specific results of actions depend on the Connection Direction chosen in step b on page 18. Warning: If a file changes on the Nasuni Desktop Client and synchronizes with the Nasuni Filer, the Client version of the file overwrites the Filer version of the file if it already exists. To add files or folders to the Nasuni Filer, use Linux commands to create, copy, or move files or folders to the target directory. You can verify that any added files or folders are present on the Nasuni Filer by using the File Browser feature of the Nasuni Filer user interface or the Nasuni Management Console user interface, after the synchronization takes place. 27

28 Uninstalling the Nasuni Desktop Client (Windows) Should it become necessary to uninstall the Nasuni Desktop Client, follow these steps: 1. Select Start Control Panel Programs and Features. The Programs and Features page appears. 2. Right-click Nasuni Desktop Client. 3. Select Uninstall. 4. The Nasuni Desktop Client Setup screen appears. Select Uninstall. Follow any prompts. Windows might open and close automatically. 5. A message appears indicating that the setup action was successful. Click Close. The Nasuni Desktop Client is uninstalled. Uninstalling the Nasuni Desktop Client (Mac OS X) Should it become necessary to uninstall the Nasuni Desktop Client, follow these steps: 1. Drag the Nasuni Desktop Client application to the Trash. 2. Drag the /Applications/NasuniDesktop folder to the Trash. The Nasuni Desktop Client is uninstalled. Copyright by Nasuni Corporation. All rights reserved. 28
