5 HindSight Client Software The HindSight Client software component is the only required installation. It provides the primary user interface and is typically installed on several computers at your site (e.g. manager s office, driver kiosk, maintenance area, etc.). Users log on to the HindSight Client and connect through the Internet to the Driver Risk Management Center to view and edit information and events in the system. Once installed, access to the HindSight Client is strictly controlled from within the software. Only users given a user name and password may log on to the system. Once logged on, a user s assigned role (i.e. driver, supervisor, administrator, etc.) determines exactly what information they will have access to. Cellular Download DC3 Video Event Recorders configured for cellular download communicate with cellular towers in a similar manner as cellular phones. At scheduled times, recorded events are automatically downloaded from event recorders in vehicles and transferred through the Sprint cellular network to the Driver Risk Management Center for review. Your cellular event recorders have been preconfigured with connection information and need only be powered up to begin functioning. Optional USB Download Methods Cellular will the primary download method for your DC3 Video Event Recorders. However, events may also be downloaded through a direct USB connection between a computer and an event recorder. This provides a secondary or backup method of connecting to event recorders. This is not required to download Driving Events but may be useful in certain situations. USB download is required to download Manual Events or Safety Events as these are not typically downloaded via cellular. USB download requires installation of the HindSight Event Mover software. Contact your DriveCam Program Specialist if you are considering one of these methods. The Portable USB Download from Vehicle via Laptop scenario illustrates one of the optional download methods. In this configuration (shown in the diagram), event recorders are connected to the USB port on the laptop computer where events are downloaded and temporarily cached. These events are then transferred to the Driver Risk Management Center for review. The USB Download from Vehicle via Docking Station scenario illustrates another optional download method. DriveCam s weather-proof USB Docking Station may be installed at your site to extend the reach of USB Download (up to 300 feet) out to vehicle locations. Events are downloaded and temporarily cached before being transferred to the Driver Risk Management Center for review. Connections All connections are made through your site s local area network (LAN) and to DriveCam over a secure Internet connection. DriveCam will provide you with the appropriate connection information. DRC316-A Page 3 DRM Onsite Installation (HS 5.4.1) Cell

9 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS There are several selections on the HindSight Installation CD. Which ones do I install? The HindSight Client is the only software component you need to install. After placing the HindSight Installation CD into the computer s CD or DVD drive, the HindSight Setup window will be displayed. Within this window are several tabs (i.e. Home, Backend, Onsite, Utilities, etc.). Click the HindSight Client selection on the Home tab then follow the instructions on page 4. How do I know if my computers meet the minimum system requirements to run the HindSight software? The minimum system requirements are listed on page 8. Most newer computers (less than a few years old) will have enough computing power to run the HindSight software. However, this is dependent on other software installed on the computer. If you are using the Windows XP operating system, you must have the Professional Edition. Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 98, and Windows Vista are not currently supported for use with HindSight software. Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server are supported. You should update your computers with the latest Microsoft service packs before installing the HindSight software. How do I know if the required prerequisite software is installed on my computers? How do I install the prerequisites? The prerequisite software requirements are listed on page 8. You do not need to install these from the Utilities tab displayed in the HindSight Setup window. During the installation process, HindSight will automatically check to see if the required prerequisites are installed. The system will prompt you to install Microsoft.NET framework and Microsoft Web Services Enhancements if they are not detected. Follow the on-screen instructions to install these prerequisites then continue installing the HindSight software. Microsoft DirectX is a standard Windows component that allows for enhanced video playback and may already be installed on your computers. If not, it will be installed automatically from the HindSight Installation CD. Crystal Reports must be installed with each HindSight Client to allow you to view HindSight Reports. This selection is made during installation of the HindSight Client (page 4). I ve installed the HindSight Client but cannot connect to DriveCam. Where do I get the connection information? Following installation of the HindSight Client (page 4), the HindSight Client Config Tool will automatically be opened (page 4). You must enter a Server Name and Virtual Path in the Connection Information window. This defines the connection to your site s database installed at the Driver Risk Management Center. This information must be provided to you from DriveCam. Contact your DriveCam Program Specialist or DriveCam Technical Support if you do not have this information. The HindSight Client Config Tool can also be opened through the Windows Start menu >> All Programs >> DriveCam >> HindSight >> HindSight Client Config Tool. I would like to be able to download event recorders directly to a local computer via USB. How do I set this up? Downloading event recorders via USB requires installation of the HindSight Event Mover software component. This is available on the Onsite tab of the HindSight Setup window. However, before the Event Mover will function, it must first be configured in the HindSight system. Contact your DriveCam Program Specialist before installing the HindSight Event Mover software component. USB download options are shown in the diagram on page 1 and discussed on page 3. How does the DriveCam Event Player work? Do I need to install it? The DriveCam Event Player is installed automatically with each HindSight Client and icons (shown to the left) are placed on the computer desktop for each component. However, it can also be installed separately on other computers that do not have the HindSight Client installed (page 4). The DriveCam Event Player is a standalone program that allows you to view DriveCam Events (.dce files) outside of the HindSight Client interface. DriveCam Event files are coded in the proprietary *.dce file extension. These are the only files that the DriveCam Event Player will play. Conversely, DriveCam Event Files can only be played from within the HindSight Client or the DriveCam Event Player. Within the HindSight Client, users with the appropriate privileges can save a copy of a DriveCam Event file to their local computer or network location. These can then be sent to others who view the event using the DriveCam Event Player. DRC316-A Page 7 DRM Onsite Installation (HS 5.4.1) Cell

13 HindSight Onsite Server (required) The Onsite Server is the only required installation and is capable of performing all functions of the HindSight System in the Driver Risk Management Program. Three HindSight software components will be installed on the Onsite Server: 1. The Onsite Communication & Caching Service (OCC) 2. The HindSight Client 3. The HindSight Event Mover The Onsite Communication & Caching Service (OCC) software component enables the Onsite Server to function as the central communication hub at the site. All additional (optional) installations of the HindSight Client and HindSight Event Mover at the site will connect through this computer. The OCC also provides the communication link to DriveCam s Driver Risk Management (DRM) Center. The HindSight Event Mover software component enables event recorders to connect to the Onsite Server. Event recorders may be made connected directly to a USB port on the Onsite Server. USB Docking Stations may also be installed to extend the reach of USB Download (up to 300 feet) out to vehicle locations. For Wireless Download, a wireless access point (WAP) may be installed and connected to the Onsite Server. Events are then downloaded from wireless event recorders through the WAP to the Onsite Server where they are temporarily cached. The Local Cache is discussed further on the next page. Downloaded events are transferred from the Onsite Server to DriveCam for review. The HindSight Client software component provides the primary user interface and is typically installed on several computers at your site (e.g. manager s office, driver kiosk, maintenance area, etc.). Additional Installations (optional) Following installation of the Onsite Server, you may expand the system by installing additional HindSight Clients on personal computers for individual users at your site (page 20). Additional HindSight Event Movers may also be installed to provide additional download options (page 22). These additional installations will be configured to connect back to the Onsite Server over your local or wide area network. As an alternative, you may configure the additional HindSight Clients and HindSight Event Movers to connect directly to your database at DriveCam, bypassing the Onsite Server. This allows users to access the system from offsite locations. Contact your DriveCam Program Specialist for information. DRC317-A Page 3 DRM Onsite Installation (HS 5.4.1) Wi-Fi

14 Wireless Wi-Fi Download DriveCam II and DC3 Video Event Recorders configured for wireless download use the b wireless communication protocol to transfer events from event recorders through a wireless access point (WAP) installed at your site. Vehicles park within range of the WAP s wireless signal and recorded events are automatically downloaded from event recorders, through the WAP, to a computer (onsite) upon which the HindSight Event Mover software component has been installed. Events are then transferred through the Internet to the Driver Risk Management Center for review. Optional USB Download Methods For most users, wireless Wi-Fi will the primary download method for DriveCam II and DC3 Video Event Recorders. However, events may also be downloaded through a direct USB connection between a computer and an event recorder. This provides a secondary or backup method of connecting to event recorders. This is not required if you intend to download via Wi-Fi but may be useful in certain situations. USB download requires installation of the HindSight Event Mover software. Locally Cached Events The OCC allows you to set up a local cache of events at your site (pages 9 and 14). Events are downloaded to the Event Movers and then transferred through the OCC and back to the DriveCam Review Center. By setting up a local cache on the OCC computer, a copy of each event will remain at the site following download and can be viewed immediately through the HindSight Client. Additionally, each time you open an event from the HindSight Database, a copy will be placed in the local cache. This allows you to keep events of particular interest at the site. The next time the event is opened, it will be displayed more quickly, having been accessed from the local cache. Events remain in the local cache until they exceed the available space. The system will then remove those which have remained unused for the longest time. Remember, these are local copies. The original event file remains safely stored in the HindSight Database at DriveCam. DRC317-A Page 4 DRM Onsite Installation (HS 5.4.1) Wi-Fi

The prerequisite software requirements are listed on page 28. This selection is made during installation of the HindSight Client (page 20). I ve installed the HindSight Client but cannot connect to DriveCam. Where do I get the connection information? Following installation of the HindSight Client (pages 15 and 20), the HindSight Client Config Tool will automatically be opened. USB download options are shown in the diagram on page 2 and discussed on pages 3 and 16. How does the DriveCam Event Player work? Do I need to install it? The DriveCam Event Player is installed automatically with each HindSight Client and icons (shown to the left) are placed on the computer desktop for each component. However, it can also be installed separately on other computers that do not have the HindSight Client installed (page 26). The DriveCam Event Player is a standalone program that allows you to view DriveCam Events (.dce files) outside of the HindSight Client interface. DriveCam Event files are coded in the proprietary *.dce file extension. These are the only files that the DriveCam Event Player will play. Conversely, DriveCam Event Files can only be played from within HindSight Client or the DriveCam Event Player. Within the HindSight Client, users with the appropriate privileges can save a copy of a DriveCam Event file to their local computer or network. These can then be viewed by others using the DriveCam Event Player. DRC317-A Page 27 DRM Onsite Installation (HS 5.4.1) Wi-Fi

40 INTRODUCTION The diagram below illustrates a typical All-in-One configuration, including the required installations to the HindSight Server and additional (optional) hardware and software installations. All HindSight software components are installed on the HindSight Server (the All-in-One computer). This single computer is all that is required to run the entire HindSight system, providing access the user interface and event download. This computer is also be the primary storage location for all video event files and system information and should be kept in a secure location. Additional installations of the HindSight Client and HindSight Event Mover software components may be made on other computers. These will be configured to connect back to the HindSight Server. DRC311-B Page 2 HindSight [All-in-One] Installation Guide

41 HindSight Server (the All-in-One Computer) The HindSight Server is all that is required to run the entire system. All HindSight software components are installed on this single computer. The HindSight Database and Event Warehouse provide the storage location for all downloaded events and information. The HindSight Business Server and Communication Service manage system security and communication. The HindSight Admin Tools give administrators access to system settings. The HindSight Client provides the primary user interface. The HindSight Event Mover enables communication between event recorders and the HindSight system. HindSight Client Software The HindSight Client software component provides the primary user interface and is typically installed on several computers at your site (e.g. manager s office, driver kiosk, maintenance area, etc.). Users log on to the HindSight Client to view and edit information and events in the system. Once installed, access to the HindSight Client is strictly controlled from within the software. Only users given a user name and password may log on to the system. Once logged on, a user s assigned role (i.e. driver, supervisor, administrator, etc.) determines exactly what information they will have access to. Wireless Wi-Fi Download DriveCam II and DC3 Video Event Recorders configured for wireless download use the b wireless communication protocol to transfer events from event recorders through a wireless access point (WAP) installed at your site. Vehicles park within range of the WAP s wireless signal and recorded events are automatically downloaded from event recorders, through the WAP, to a computer (typically the HindSight Server) upon which the HindSight Event Mover software component has been installed. USB Download Methods For most users, wireless Wi-Fi will the primary download method for DriveCam II and DC3 Video Event Recorders. The Portable USB Download from Vehicle via Laptop scenario illustrates one of the optional download methods. In this configuration (shown in the diagram), event recorders are connected to the USB port on the laptop computer where events are downloaded and temporarily cached. These events are then transferred to the HindSight Server. The USB Download from Vehicle via Docking Station scenario illustrates another optional download method. DriveCam s weather-proof USB Docking Station may be installed at your site to extend the reach of USB Download (up to 300 feet) out to vehicle locations. Events are downloaded and temporarily cached before being transferred to the HindSight Server. Connections All connections are made through your site s local area network (LAN). 63 CONNECTING EVENT RECORDERS (INITIALIZATION) Each event recorder is initialized (connected to the system for the first time) through a direct USB connection to the All-in-One computer. This applies to both USB and wireless event recorders. Each event recorder is then displayed in the HindSight Client and labeled with its serial number. If you have not yet installed event recorders in your vehicles then you can simply line them all up near the computer and quickly initialize them one-by-one. If you have installed event recorders, then you ll have to bring the vehicle to the computer (or vice versa). Before initializing wireless event recorders, enter the WEP Key for your wireless access point in the Group Settings window of the HindSight Client. It will then be uploaded to event recorders during initialization. This enables them to communicate wirelessly with the system. 64 SYSTEM SETUP General use of the software is described in the HindSight User s Guide and HindSight Help. For now, a few basic configuration steps should be completed after software installation. This section will cover these steps briefly. They are described in detail in the HindSight Administrator s Guide. System Administrator User Name and Password The default account is user name drivecam and password drivecam. This account has administrator privileges in HindSight. You may want to delete this login or change its password for security reasons. Passwords are changed from the Tools menu within the HindSight Client. To delete the default drivecam account, you must first create a new system administrator and then login with that user name and password. The default login can then be deleted. Define the Group Structure By default, the top-level group is called Root. This is typically changed to the name of your organization. Subgroups may also be added to reflect particular divisions (different vehicle types, shifts, workgroups, etc.). Once you have defined the group structure, you may assign users, roles, vehicles, and event recorders to their particular subgroups. These steps are completed within the Resource Manager, available through the Tools menu. Establish Group Settings Each group may be configured with its own set of preferences. These include settings that affect how the system tracks overdue items in the database and the way in which event recorders function within vehicles (i.e. trigger settings, video capture modes, wireless download settings, etc.). Group Settings are available through the Tools menu. Add Users and Roles There are six roles: driver, supervisor, reviewer, coach, move manager, and administrator. Each user is added to the system and assigned at least one role. Users may be given access to log on to HindSight Client or disallowed from logging on. When a user is logged on, their assigned role defines what they are and are not allowed to do in the system. Users and roles are managed in the Resource Manager. Add Vehicles and Assign Event Recorders Vehicles and event recorders are managed separately in the HindSight Client. Vehicles are created in the Resource Manager and assigned a Vehicle ID. You may select a default vehicle type or create your own. Once event recorders have been initialized, they may then be assigned to a particular vehicle. Vehicles and event recorders must be in the same group in order to be paired together. DRC311-B Page 26 HindSight [All-in-One] Installation Guide

74 About DriveCam Events (*.dce files) and the Event Warehouse Within the Event Warehouse, the system will create folders for each event recorder as they are connected to the database, labeling each folder with the event recorder s 8-digit serial number. All downloaded events are placed into the folder of the event recorder upon which they were captured. Events should not be modified, moved, or deleted directly from the Event Warehouse, though they should be backed up regularly in case of system-wide failure. Events deleted from within the HindSight Client will permanently remove the event file from the Event Warehouse. We recommend that you have the appropriate measures in place to ensure the integrity of your event files and data. DriveCam Event files are coded in the proprietary *.dce file extension. These can only be viewed from within the HindSight Client interface or with the standalone DriveCam Event Player. DCE files can be exported to AVI format for playback on most standard media players. 75 HINDSIGHT 20/20 v5.4.1 DISTRIBUTED SOFTWARE INSTALLATION GUIDE USE THIS DOCUMENT IF: 1. You will be hosting and managing the HindSight System on your own, and 2. You are using either DriveCam II or DC3 Video Event Recorders configured for wireless Wi-Fi or USB download. HindSight 20/20 consists of multiple software components. Each component is installed separately on one or many computers and configured to connect to one another. This flexible architecture enables you to combine or distribute these components in different ways to meet the needs of your business and technical environments. Read this before you begin This section introduces a specific type of HindSight software installation, referred to as a Distributed configuration. This configuration is ideal for large organizations operating at one or more sites with highly distributed computer networks. These organizations typically choose a Distributed Configuration to take advantage of HindSight s ability to store data and manage the system centrally while enabling users to access the system from various locations. Because of the different business and technical environments, there are many ways to implement HindSight, not all of which can be clearly described in a single installation document. Contact DriveCam for assistance with this type of installation. We can provide you with documentation and recommendations tailored to your specific environment. * * * This document is NOT for clients enrolled in the Driver Risk Management Program * * * Installation instructions are also available for clients enrolled in DriveCam s Driver Risk Management Program and clients using the cellular download method. Contact DriveCam for more information. Where to find help Additional documents (user s guide, administrator s guide, release notes, etc.) are available in PDF format on the Help tab of the HindSight Setup window which is displayed when you run the HindSight Installation CD. Electronic Help files are also available through the Help menu within the software. Contacting DriveCam for assistance We are here to help. If you have any questions or need assistance, please give us a call. DriveCam Technical Support is available 24 hours / 7 days at (866) For international assistance, please call (858) or support@drivecam.com.
