1 Lumira Edge Install As a moderately experienced user of SAP Lumira Desktop, I am knowledgeable in the utility and functionality that it provides. It is ideal for manipulating, editing, and formatting data to create visualizations and share them throughout an organization. Its user-friendly interface enables users to easily compose engaging documents from multiple data sources that don t need to be 100% clean. From my experience, implementing SAP Lumira at an enterprise level is most successful when the sharing of visualizations is managed effectively. Enter SAP Lumira Edge. SAP Lumira Desktop has several options for enterprise integration, including Lumira Cloud, SAP BI and Lumira Server on HANA. However, SAP Lumira Edge is a streamlined, light-weight, and cost-effective option that may be the best solution for an organization. SAP has stated that Lumira Edge is very easy to install and use, so I have taken it upon myself to perform a test install of the product and document my findings. Pre-Install Since I did not have a physical test environment available to use, I chose to install SAP Lumira Edge on a local virtual machine. The virtual machine is a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with 4 GB of RAM, 2 CPU s, and 14 GB free Disk Space, meeting the Evaluation Purposes hardware requirements from the SAP Lumira Edge Installation Guide. (For reference, the Production Ready hardware requirements from the Installation Guide are 8+ GB RAM, 4 CPU, and 4 GB of Disk Space.) With my environment ready, the first step was to download the installation file from the SAP Service Marketplace. The file can be found by navigating to the SAP Lumira Server For Teams node (this is the new nomenclature for SAP Lumira Edge). The installation process for SAP Lumira Edge was similar to that of other BusinessObjects products I ve installed in the past. The installation ZIP file must be downloaded from the Service Marketplace and the

2 setup.exe file must be run locally. The setup.exe file was easy to find, in the LumiraTeamServer subfolder. Installation Process After a bit of load time (which I found typical), the install program launches. The following configuration window appears: After defining the local file folder location and the Lumira Edge server Administrator credentials, the installation begins. I am somewhat surprised at this point because I was expecting to be prompted for license information, but it never appears. Lumira Edge has a Trial license option (5 Named users and a trial period of 15 days); however, I did not think that it would be chosen by default.

3 After a little less than 20 minutes, the installation process is complete. This is slower than the less than 10 minutes duration that SAP claims the install to take but, due to the non-standard configuration of the VM that I have used here, I trust that their claim is sound. After the installation, the application is launched and (after logging in) I can immediately work with sample content. Accessing and Administering SAP Lumira Edge Once I ve logged in, I m immediately brought to the Content screen. I can see all of the stocked sample content included with the install. In the navigation pane to the left, I can access a few administrative activities. These include managing Members, Groups, Sessions and Licenses, and Server Maintenance. My first inclination is to examine the Licensing screen, since I was not prompted for a key earlier.

4 As I suspected, I currently have only a Trial license for this server and I will need to enter the License key from my purchase to obtain fully-licensed users (Named or Concurrent, depending on the deployment). The Members and Groups screens offer very basic activities. These include creating, editing, and deleting Members and Groups, assigning Members to specific Groups, and assigning Roles to Members. The ability to assign View and Edit rights for users via Roles circumvents the need to implement a full SAP BI Launchpad portal, thus reducing administrative complexity. The Maintenance screen provides a display of system metrics and access to HTTPS/SSL configuration settings.

5 You can also access Settings from the drop-down menu in the top right of the window. Here, you can change your password as well as configure SQL drivers for MS SQL Server 2008 and This configuration allows for Query by SQL access to these databases by pointing to the associated JAR files in the sever folder structure. Eventually, this capability will be expanded to include other enterprise data sources. Conclusion All in all, I was happy with the installation and setup process for SAP Lumira Edge. The process was quick and straightforward compared to those of other programs I ve installed in the past. And, the question I had about licensing was easy to resolve once I accessed the application. If I had not kept the typical process of entering my license key in mind, I would likely have been confused when my access was revoked at the end of the 15 day trial period.
