2 1 Safety precautions 1 Safety precautions The following describe the safety precautions so that this product is used in a safe manner. MEXE02 is designed with the assumption that the user has an understanding of basic operations such as starting up and exiting applications and how to use a mouse in Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista. Use the product only after carefully reading and fully understanding these instructions. Also read the Safety precautions section in the operating manual that came with the product you are combining with the MEXE02. Warning Caution Note Handling the product without observing the instructions that accompany a Warning symbol may result in serious injury or death. Handling the product without observing the instructions that accompany a Caution symbol may result in injury or property damage. The items under this heading contain important handling instructions that the user should observe to ensure safe use of the product. Warning Connection Turn off the power to both the PC and applicable product before connecting your PC to the applicable product. Failure to follow this instruction may cause electric shock. Caution Connection When grounding the positive terminal of the power supply, do not connect any equipment (PC, etc.) whose negative terminal is grounded. Doing so may cause the applicable product and PC to short, damaging both. Use the data setter OPX-2A to set data, etc. Disposal To dispose of the MEXE02, disassemble it into parts and components as much as possible and dispose of individual parts/components as industrial waste. -2-
3 2 Introduction 2 Introduction Please perform any installation, uninstallation, editing, and other operations for data setting software MEXE02 using an account with Administrator privileges. Structure of the manual The MEXE02 comes with the manuals specified below. OPERATING MANUAL Before Use (this document) This manual explains the installation and uninstallation of MEXE02 as well as how to edit MEXE02 data, among others. OPERATING MANUAL for each applicable product The screen transitions and setting items are explained, among others, for each product used in combination with the MEXE02. Notation rules The description of text in this manual follows the notation rules specified as shown at the right. The screens shown in this manual are those displayed in Windows XP. [ ] Enter Menus and submenus shown in/from the title bar, buttons, and other controls that can be clicked with the mouse, are enclosed in square brackets. Dialog box messages, etc., are enclosed in double quotations marks. Keyboard keys are shown in a box. Note The screens provided in this operating manual are those displayed in an AR series AC power supply input type. The setting items and screen transitions vary depending on the product used in combination with the MEXE02. Functions of MEXE02 MEXE02 is a software program that lets you set data required for motor operation from a PC. Data can be edited in various PC screens, or data set in an applicable product can be checked from a PC. The key functions of MEXE02 are explained below. Editing and saving the data Operating data and parameters can be created and edited. Data edited in MEXE02 can be written to an applicable product (download), or data stored in an applicable product can be read into MEXE02 (upload). You can save data files created in MEXE02 in either MEXE02 s dedicated file format or CSV format. Monitor function ON/OFF statuses of I/O signals can be monitored. The waveform measurement feature lets you check I/O signals, motor speeds and other settings based on measured waveforms. Test function I/O test can be performed to monitor input signals and cause output signals to be output forcibly. You can also perform test operations in MEXE

5 2 Introduction General flow Steps to set operating data and parameters using MEXE02 are shown below. Install device driver. (page 7) Install MEXE02. (page 13) Connect your PC to an applicable product. (page 21) Start MEXE02. (page 23) Perform data communication between the PC and applicable product. (page 23) Edit data. (page 25) Download data files (page 33) Shut down MEXE02. (page 24) You can also connect the PC and applicable product after editing data. In this case, after saving the edited data to the PC, turn off both the PC power and applicable product power, connect the PC and applicable product, and then start them again. Note It is recommended to back up the application program to a suitable storage device or a medium since data loss is a possibility when using software. -5-
6 3 Installation and uninstallation 3 Installation and uninstallation 3.1 Required system configuration The installation of MEXE02 on a PC requires one of the following operating systems (OS) and a PC compatible with the OS you ll be using. Operating system You need an English version of any of the basic operating systems listed below. Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 Microsoft Windows Vista Business Service Pack 1 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 MEXE02 is not available for 64-bit (x64, IA64) Windows XP and Windows Vista. Personal computer CPU Display resolution Memory Hard disk capacity USB port Disk drive Intel PentiumⅢ 800 MHz or more (Your operating system must support the CPU.) Video adapter or monitor of XGA ( ) or higher resolution Windows 2000 Professional: 448 MB or more is recommended. Windows XP Home Edition, Professional: 512 MB or more is recommended. Windows Vista Home Basic: 896 MB or more is recommended. Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate: 1.4 GB or more is recommended. Available disk space of 30 MB or more 1 port or more CD-ROM drive (for installation) 1 The hardware requirements for the OS must be satisfied. 2 For MEXE02 to function, Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 must be installed in your PC. Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 will be installed automatically, if not already installed. Accordingly, a free hard disk space of up to 500 MB is required in addition to the hard disk capacity specified above. Note The required memory and hard disk capacities may be different, depending on the system environment. -6-
7 3 Installation and uninstallation 3.2 Before installing MEXE02 Terms for use of this software Read the terms specified below. Install MEXE02 only if you agree with all of these terms. 1. All copyrights to or in MEXE02 belong to Oriental Motor Co., Ltd. 2. Unauthorized use or reproduction of MEXE02 and its operating manual, whether in part or in whole, is prohibited. 3. Oriental Motor is not liable for any incidental or indirect loss (data damage, business disruption, loss of business profit, etc.) arising from the use of or inability to use MEXE02. Note Administrator privilege is required for installation. If MEXE02 is already installed If MEXE02 is already installed, be sure to uninstall it by referring on p.19, and then install MEXE02 again. Note If an overwrite installation is performed, MEXE02 may not operate properly. 3.3 Installing the device driver Note Administrator privilege is required for installation. Do not connect the included USB cable to the PC when installing device drivers. Always install the device driver prior to installing MEXE Insert the MEXE02 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Open the DRIVER folder on the CD-ROM. 3. Open the CC05IF-USB folder. -7-
8 3 Installation and uninstallation 4. Double-click Setup.exe. The installer will start up. The following screen may be displayed in Windows Vista. Click [Continue] to proceed. 5. Click [Install]. -8-
9 3 Installation and uninstallation 6. The following screen may be displayed in some cases. Click [Continue Anyway] to proceed. The following screen may be displayed in Windows Vista. Click [Install this driver software anyway] to proceed. 7. Click [OK]. -9-
10 3 Installation and uninstallation 8. Plug the USB cable into the USB port on the PC. If the following screen is displayed, select No, not this time and click [Next]. In Windows Vista, it will proceed to Step 11 automatically. 9. Click [Next]. -10-
11 3 Installation and uninstallation The following screen will be displayed if No, not this time was selected in Step 8. Setup starts installing the device driver. -11-
12 3 Installation and uninstallation 10. The following screen may be displayed in some cases. Click [Continue Anyway] to proceed. 11. When the installation is complete, click [Finish]. The device driver has been successfully installed. -12-
13 3 Installation and uninstallation 3.4 Installing MEXE02 Note Administrator privilege is required for installation. Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 must be installed in order to use MEXE02. Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 will be automatically installed, but the system must be restarted after installation. Please be sure to close all other applications. The system must be restarted after installing the MEXE02. Please be sure to close all other applications. 1. Insert the MEXE02 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. A window pops up automatically, showing the folders on the CD-ROM. 2. Open the MEXE02ENG folder on the CD-ROM. 3. Double-click setup.exe to launch the setup program. -13-
14 3 Installation and uninstallation If Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 is already installed, it will proceed to Step 5. The following screen may be displayed in Windows Vista. Click [Allow] to proceed. 4. Click [Install]. -14-

16 3 Installation and uninstallation 6. Read the terms of the agreement shown on the screen. If you agree with the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click [Next]. 7. Enter the user name and organization, and click [Next]. -16-
17 3 Installation and uninstallation 8. Select Complete under Setup Type, and click [Next]. 9. Click [Install]. -17-
18 3 Installation and uninstallation Setup starts installing MEXE When the installation is complete, click [Finish]. MEXE02 has been successfully installed. 11. In case you are prompted to restart your system, click [Yes]. The system will restart. -18-
19 3 Installation and uninstallation 3.5 Uninstalling MEXE02 Please follow the procedures below in order to uninstall MEXE02. Note Administrator privilege is required for uninstallation. 1. Disconnect the USB cable from the USB port on the PC. 2. Click [Start] in the task bar, point to [Settings], and then click [Control Panel]. 3. In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs. 4. In the list under Currently installed programs, select MEXE02, and then click [Remove]. 5. Click [Yes]. -19-
20 3 Installation and uninstallation The following screen may be displayed in Windows Vista. Click [Allow] to proceed. MEXE02 is uninstalled. When the uninstallation is complete, MEXE02 is removed from the list. -20-
21 4 Connection, startup and shutdown 4 Connection, startup and shutdown This chapter explains how to connect your PC to an applicable product and start/shut down MEXE02. Note Administrator privilege is required to use MEXE Connection method Caution When grounding the positive terminal of the power supply, do not connect any equipment (PC, etc.) whose negative terminal is grounded. Doing so may cause the applicable product and PC to short, damaging both. Note Connect your PC to an applicable product using the PC interface cable and USB cable supplied with MEXE02. Connecting to an applicable product (excluding a network converter) 1. Turn off the PC and applicable product. 2. Connect motor to applicable product. 3. Plug the PC interface cable into the communication connector on the applicable product. Plug the USB cable into the USB port on the PC. 4. Connect the PC interface cable and USB cable. Turn on the power to the PC and applicable product, and start the PC. -21-
22 4 Connection, startup and shutdown Connecting to an Oriental Motor network converter 1. Turn off the PC and network converter. 2. Connect the product supporting RS-485 communication to the network converter. 3. Plug the PC interface cable into the communication connector on the network converter. Plug the USB cable into the USB port on the PC. 4. Connect the PC interface cable and USB cable. Turn on the power to the PC, the network converter and the product supporting RS-485 communication, and then start the PC. -22-
23 4 Connection, startup and shutdown 4.2 Starting MEXE02 Double-click the MEXE02 icon on the desktop to start MEXE02. Once MEXE02 has started, the following window appears. Menu bar Toolbar Status bar 4.3 Setting up the communication line If you have connected the PC and an applicable product for the first time, set up the communication line. 1. Click [Option] from the [Communication] menu. 2. Select the communication port to which the USB cable is connected, and click [OK]. If communication cannot be established even through the applicable product power is input and the correct communication port is selected, select this check box and then set up the communication line again. -23-
24 4 Connection, startup and shutdown Confirming the communication port number 1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click Properties. The system properties will be displayed. 2. Click the Hardware tab and then click [Device Manager]. 3. Double-click Port (COM & LPT). Confirm the port number labeled as ORIENTAL MOTOR/Virtual COM Port. In the example below, it is COM Shutting down Click [Exit] from the [File] menu. MEXE02 shuts down. -24-
25 5 Data edit 5 Data edit This chapter explains how to create data files, edit operating data and parameters, and store edited data. Data can be created from scratch or by editing existing data. Both require different procedures, so read the section corresponding to each method. The screens provided in the explanation below are those displayed in an AR series AC power supply input type. Note Administrator privilege is required to use MEXE Creating new data 1. Click the New icon in the toolbar. 2. Select the product series and product name, and click [OK]. -25-
26 5 Data edit The data edit window appears. Example: Operating current parameter window of an AR series AC power supply input type 5.2 Opening an existing data file 1. Click the Open icon in the toolbar. 2. Select the file you want to edit, and click [Open]. The data edit window appears, just like when you are creating a new data file. -26-
27 5 Data edit 5.3 Setting data in the data edit window Note Changing the data in MEXE02 will not change the data in the applicable product. In order to change the data in the applicable product, a download must be performed. See p.33 for procedures on downloading. Data entry When the value in a cell is changed, the cell changes to yellow. The characters in the cell will be black if the value in the cell is different from the default value. Resetting the cell back to the default value changes the text color to blue. Entering a numeric value Click a desired cell, enter a numeric value using the keyboard, and then press the Enter key. Selecting a value from a pull-down menu Double-clicking a desired cell displays a pull-down menu. Select a desired value from the pull-down menu. Copying and pasting data You can copy an entered value and paste it into a different cell. Copying and pasting lets you quickly populate multiple cells with the same value. 1. Select the data you want to copy, and then click the Copy icon in the toolbar. You can select a single value or multiple values. Data to be copied 2. 28 5 Data edit 5.4 Saving a data file The data edited within MEXE02 or data read by the applicable product will be saved as a file. Data files can be saved in MEXE02 s dedicated file format (.mx2) or CSV format (.csv). Saving data by overwriting Click the Save icon in the toolbar. The current data is saved over the existing data. Saving data under a different name 1. Click [Save As] from the [File] menu. 2. Enter a new file name, and click [Save]. The data is saved under the specified name. -28-
29 5 Data edit Saving data in CSV format Data saved in the CSV format can be edited in applications other than MEXE02. Note that once saved in the CSV format, files can no longer be opened or edited in MEXE02. To edit a CSV file in MEXE02, open the file in an application other than MEXE02 and then paste the data to MEXE Click [Export] from the [File] menu. 2. Enter a file name, and click [Save]. All operating data and parameters are saved in CSV format. -29-
30 5 Data edit 5.5 Restore default data Restoring edited data You can initialize the data you have edited in the data edit window. 1. Click [Initialize] from the [Edit] menu. 2. Select the data you want to initialize, and click [OK]. 3. Click [Yes]. The data is initialized. -30-
31 5 Data edit Restoring default data in selected cells 1. In the data edit window, select the cell you want to restore. Cell to be initialized 2. Click the right mouse button, and click [Initialize]. The value in the selected cell returns to the default. Restoring the applicable product to default settings You can restore data stored in an applicable product s NV memory. Note The applicable product s NV memory can be rewritten approx. 100,000 times. Do not turn off the applicable product power while the initialization is still in progress. Doing so may damage the data. 1. Click [Initialize] from the [Communication] menu. 2. Select the data you want to restore, and then click [OK]. -31-
32 5 Data edit 3. Click [Yes]. The specified data in the applicable product s NV memory is restored. 4. When the restore is complete, click [OK]. Note If the system parameters have been changed by data initialization, the following message will be displayed. Changes to the system parameters will become effective at next power-up. Please turn off the power and turn it on again. If a 24 VDC power supply is used, also cycle the 24 VDC power supply. 5.6 Ending data edit To close the data edit window, click [Close] from the [File] menu. -32-
33 6 Data upload/download and verification 6 Data upload/download and verification This chapter explains how to write MEXE02 data to an applicable product (download), read data from an applicable product into MEXE02 (upload), and verify MEXE02 data against applicable product data. The screens provided in the explanation below are those displayed in an AR series AC power supply input type. Note Administrator privilege is required to use MEXE Download data to the applicable product (writing) You can write data created in MEXE02 to an applicable product. Note The applicable product s NV memory can be rewritten approx. 100,000 times. Do not turn off the applicable product power while the download is still in progress. Doing so may damage the data. 1. Click the Download icon in the toolbar. 2. Select the data to be downloaded, and then click [OK]. Note The MEXE02 data and the applicable product data must be synchronized prior to performing a Modified Data Only download. For the synchronization method, refer to the MEXE02 operating manual for each applicable product you are combining with the MEXE Click [Yes]. The data is downloaded. -33-
34 6 Data upload/download and verification 4. After the data has been downloaded, click [OK]. Note If the system parameters have been changed by data downloading, the following message will be displayed. Changes to the system parameters will become effective at next power-up. Please turn off the power and turn it on again. If a 24 VDC power supply is used, also cycle the 24 VDC power supply. 6.2 Upload from the applicable product (reading) You can read data stored in an applicable product into MEXE Click the Upload icon in the toolbar. 2. Click [OK]. The data is uploaded. 3. After the data has been uploaded, click [OK]. The data that has been read is displayed. -34-
35 6 Data upload/download and verification 6.3 Verifying data You can verify the data stored in an applicable product against the data displayed in MEXE Click [Verify] from the [Communication] menu. 2. Select the data to be verified, and then click [OK]. Data is verified. -35-

37 7 Other functions 7 Other functions You can print MEXE02 data or check the version of MEXE02. The screens provided in the explanation below are those displayed in an AR series AC power supply input type. Note Administrator privilege is required to use MEXE Printing data You can print data and waveform measurement results. 1. Click [Print] from the [File] menu. 2. Set the items you want to print, print object, and color, and then click [OK]. -37-
38 7 Other functions 7.2 Checking product information 1. Click [Device Information] from the [Tool] menu. 2. Click [Check]. Verification of connection status will start. 3. Once the results are displayed, click [Close]. When the applicable product series name or part name is not displayed Please verify the following items: Is the applicable product power on? Is the PC interface cable completely inserted? Is the applicable product a type that is compatible with the MEXE02? When Unsupported Product is shown in the product name column. Please verify that the applicable product supports the MEXE
39 7 Other functions 7.3 Checking version information You can check the version of MEXE02 software you are using. 1. Click [About MEXE02] from the [Help] menu. 2. After you have checked the software version, click [Close]. The software version is also found on the MEXE02 CD-ROM. -39-
