Document Overview This document is to help ElasterStack domain administrator and user to understand how to manage ElasterStack computing resources. The content includes procedures of using ElasterStack instance, managing template and ISO, configuring network and so on Introduction to TCloud ElasterStack ElasterStack is a complete software solution to create a cloud computing infrastructure (IaaS). It includes server management software and expansion of industry-standard virtualization applications. Enterprise IT can use ElasterStack to improve the efficiency and management of IT resources. It also simplifies of IT resource demands for users. ElasterStack enables service providers to set up cloud computing service that is similar to Amazon EC2 service. It also allows Enterprise to build an on-premise private cloud. ElasterStack Basic Components Before using ElasterStack domain services, you might want to understand the basic ElasterStack components. ElasterStack components include virtual machine instance, template, storage, network and event. This section will give a brief description of these components. Template A template is an operation system (OS) image that user can select from ElasterStack template repository and launch a new virtual machine. The instance is another copy of the template. User can deploy multiple instances with the same template. Public templates are provided by ElasterStack service provider (like popular Linux and Windows OS) or upload user-created template. Instance An ElasterStack instances can be created from template or installed by operation system ISO file. When launching a new instance, user can make a variety of options from 3

provisioned computing characteristics and capabilities (e.g. service offering, disk offering, network offering, and so on ) Storage When user creates a new instance from template or OS ISO file, the instance comes with a predefined storage volume. ElasterStack includes two types of storage component volume and snapshot. A volume is a virtual machine storage which can be a root disk or additional data disk. A snapshot is a replication of volume of root and data. User can use snapshot to create new volume to recover files, or create template to restore virtual machine. Network Each instance created by user will use a shared NAT router to access Internet. Instance is isolated from virtual networks of other accounts. The NAT router is also the firewall, VPN gateway, load balancer, DHCP and DNS server. User can configure advanced networking rules such as port forwarding, load balancer, and VPN connection. Extra tagged and direct attached network are supported. ElasterStack will launch another virtual router for the tagged and direct attached VLAN. Please contact ElasterStack service provider if you require the feature of direct attached networking. Event From ElasterStack management console, account user can find standard events which log the success or failure of jobs or operation, and user login and logout. 4

Operating ElasterStack To use ElasterStack, user must first login ElasterStack Management Server. Management Server provides web user interface for ElasterStack account, instance, and resource operations. It is also an API platform for user to create advanced or automatic management tools. 1. Login Management Server To login Management Server, please use AJAX-supported browsers including Chrome, IE7, IE8, IE9, Firefox 3.5+, Firefox 4, Safari 4, and Safari 5, and then login your username, password, and domain. 5

User is granted to use a number of features: Dashboard: Review resource usage and significant logs. Instances: Manage your virtual machines hosted in the ElasterStack platform. Storage: Manage physical storages like volumes and snapshots. Network: Manage network provision setting and its functions. Templates: Manage template and ISO image files for new virtual instances. Accounts: Manage your account information. Domains: Manage your domain. Events: Review administration, instance, and system logs. 6

2. Template Management Template has all information necessary to boot an instance, and is a reusable virtual disk image for creation of new virtual machine that includes operation system, applications, configurations, and any preliminaries in your application systems running in ElasterStack. Pubic templates in Templates Feature Templates are provided by ElasterStack service provider. User is eligible to launch new instances from these templates. User can also upload customized template or delete unused template. 2.1 Add Template To upload your templates 1 to the ElasterStack, user need to save customized templates in a web server. For example, you have a Windows server template and is located at server>/<windows server template file> (1) Login ElasterStack web console. From left-panel, select Templates Templates My Templates (2) On top of the main panel, click Add Template. (3) Enter the settings of the template, and then click Add. 1 If your OS type of template is Windows, it is recommended installing Windows Paravirtualized Drivers before uploading to ElasterStack. 7

(4) Wait until the template uploaded to your template repository, and then you can launch a new instance from the template. 2.2 Delete Template (1) Expand Templates Templates My Templates, then select template you want to remove. Click Delete Template in Actions. (2) Click Confirmation to confirm your deletion. 8

3. ISO Image Management ISO image is available, stored in ElasterStack template repositories, and similar to templates. ISO images can be bootable or unbootable disks. For example, operation System installation CD/DVD is a bootable ISO file, while software installation CD/DVD is an unbootable disk. User can find essential ISO files provided by ElasterStack service provider in Templates ISOs Featured ISOs, and user can upload or delete ISO files. Like template operation, ElasterStack will download ISO files from your web server. 3.1 Add ISO (1) Login ElasterStack console. 31 8 Network Management A virtual network environment (VLAN) is assigned to user domain environment. The VLAN is capable of providing DNS, DHCP, gateway, NAT, port forwarding, load balancing, and VPN services. With larger provisioned networking quota, user can increase the network capacity. 8.1 Port Forwarding By default, the external network traffic cannot directly access your domain hosts in ElasterStack cloud. To render Internet services (such as HTTP, FTP, SMTP and so on), you can forward external traffic to specific virtual machine by port forwarding. (1) From Network IP Address, select the IP address that will host your service. In the IP Address main panel, select Port Forwarding tab. (2) Please configure the required fields: Source CIDR: Enter the source IP range that allows accessing port forwarding. Leave empty to allow all traffic. Public Port: specify the external port Private Port: specify the internal port Instance: please enter your virtual instance which will provide Internet service (3) Click Add to create forwarding rule. To access Windows Operating Systems, user can enable Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) port forwarding (TCP 3389) to operate Windows instance. To access Linux by Secure Shell (SSH), user can configure TCP 22 port forwarding. Please remove unused forwarding rule by Delete in Port Forwarding panel. 8.2 Load Balancer ElasterStack implements a TCP-level load balancer. The available policies are round-robin, least connection, and source IP. (1) From Network IP Address, select the IP address that will host your service. In the IP Address main panel, select Load Balancer tab. (2) Please fill in the required fields: 30

Name: Enter name of the load balancing rule Public Port: specify the external port Private Port: specify the internal port Algorithm: select load balancing policy (3) Click Add to create load balancing rule. (4) To assign virtual instance for load balancer, click Manage in the newly created load balancing rule (5) Select a virtual machine, and then click Assign. (6) Click Manage again and assign another virtual instance into the load balancer. 31

8.3 Enable VPN The VPN provides by ElasterStack is L2TP-based service. VPN allows you to connect virtual network from your Windows and Mac OS. (1) From Network IP Address, select the IP address that will host your service. In the IP Address main panel, VPN tab. (2) A message is popup. Please click Enabled to enable VPN access. (3) You can find VPN server address and IPSec pre-shared key from VPN panel. (4) To create username to access VPN service. Please select Add User from Actions.
