Upgrade Tool Guide July
4.X to 5.0 The Upgrade Guide from 4.X to 5.0 consists of three parts: Upgrading the LiveAction Server Upgrading the LiveAction Node Upgrading the LiveAction Client The LiveAction Node is an optional LiveAction component, used to provide additional collection and processing capabilities in networks with large devices. It is available in LiveAction releases 4.0 and higher. If you are upgrading from LiveAction 4.X to 5.0 and installing LiveAction nodes for the first time, please see Appendix A. Installing the LiveAction Node for the First Time Before you begin your upgrade from v4.x to v5.0 Customers upgrading from v4.x to v5.0 will require a new license to support the new software. Please contact license@liveaction.com to request a new license before you begin the upgrade. Customers making use of the new LiveUX features, must mention that in their request to license@liveaction.com to allow the Support Team to provide a license capable of supporting both LiveNX and LiveUX. Upgrading the LiveAction Server Step 1: Open the LiveAction Server Management Console, go to Manage Start Service and Manage Connect to Service. Once the LiveAction Server is running and the connection is established, click on Manage Export Configuration to export the current configuration. This export configuration step is for backup purposes only. If you wish to bypass this backup step or if you want to start LiveAction Server with the factory defaults, please skip to Step 5: 2

Upgrading the LiveAction Nodes Skip this section if you do not have any LiveAction nodes in your configuration. Nodes are used by LiveAction to provide additional collection and processing capabilities in networks with a large number of devices. The nodes run on Linux or Windows O/S and communicate to the central LiveAction server. This guide assumes installation on Linux O/S. If you are installing nodes for the first time, please see Appendix A. Step 1: Open the LiveAction Node Console and stop the service by clicking on Manage Stop Service. Click on Yes when asked if you want to shut down the node service. Step 2: Figure 1: Node Tab in LiveAction Server Console Uninstall the previous LiveAction s Node software by logging in as root user and then open a console. To uninstall, type rpm qa grep LiveAction to return the package name. Then type rpm e LiveAction_package_name. Figure 2: Uninstall Node Package 15
Step 3: Install the LiveAction Node software LiveActionNode x86_64.sh. It is packaged as an RPM and is distributed as a self-contained shell script (.sh) file with the RPM package embedded in it. Currently, installation must be handled by the root user or a non-root user that has used the su or sudo command to gain root privileges. This example assumes that the.sh package is loaded on the desktop. To install, type chmod +x LiveActionNode x86_64.sh. Then type./liveactionnode x86_64.sh Step 4: Enter your LiveAction Node and Server IP address. Figure 3: LiveAction Node Package Installation Step 5: Figure 4: Node and Server IP Address Specification Enter your LiveAction node data directory. This is the directory containing your most recent LiveAction node configuration, node data and node connection file. This example assumes that your node data directory is in 4.1. Ensure that you provide the complete path of the directory. Default path is /var/liveaction/data/4.1. Since your node connection file is stored in this directory, you do not need to re-add this node to the system. 16
Step 6: Figure 5: Node Package Installation Complete Type /opt/liveactionnode/4.3/lanodemanagementconsole to start the LiveAction Node Console application. Figure 6: Node Management Console Startup Step 7: On the LiveAction Node Console GUI, go to the Manage Start Service. When complete, a green LED appears in the bottom of the Node Console with Node is currently running. Verify that the Node Name and the Node 17
ID on the LiveAction Node Console matches the Node Name and Node ID in the Nodes tab in the Server Management Console. Verify that the Node status in the Server Management Console is Connected. The Node upgrade is complete. Figure 7: Node Upgrade Complete Figure 8: LiveAction Management Console Nodes Tab 18
Upgrading the LiveAction Client The LiveAction Client can be installed via the LiveAction Client Installer and by following the same steps as installing the LiveAction Server or by using a web based installer. For illustrative purposes, the web installer procedure is shown. Details on the installation procedure using the Client installer can be found in the LiveAction User Guide Chapter 2: Installation. NOTE: The Client application installation requires admin rights. Step 1: Type IP Address>:<httpserver.port> in your browser. In this example, the client is being installed on the same machine as the LiveAction server, so localhost can be used in place of the server IP address. The httpserver.port is using the default value, Type Server IP Address:<httpserver.port> if the httpserver.secure value is True. Additional details for the httpserver.port and the httpserver.secure configurations are shown in Chapter 2 of the LiveAction User Guide. Click on the Launch Client in the header bar at the top of the web page or click on Launch LiveAction Client text in the body of the web page. Figure 1: LiveAction Client Web Install 19
Step 2: Click Run in the Do you want to run this application? dialog box. Figure 2: LiveAction Client Security Warning Step 3: After upgrading, the LiveAction Client may fail to start for users who have an older version of LiveAction Client cached on their computer. To resolve this issue, remove the older client from Java s download cache. On Windows, this can be done as follows. 1. Click on Start, then All Programs. 2. Click on Java, then Configure Java to open the Java Control Panel. 3. On the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files heading, click the View button. The Java Cache Viewer should appear. 4. In the Show dropdown at the top of the window, select Applications. 5. In the application list, highlight all instances of LiveAction Client and click the Remove toolbar button to remove these applications from the cache. 6. Dismiss the cache viewer and control panel, and go back to Step 1: to launch the Client again. Figure 3: Java Cache Viewer 20
Step 4: Enter your Client credentials to log in to the LiveAction Client. LiveAction will use your log in credentials to load your most recent saved LiveAction client configuration or choose Username: admin and Password: admin if this is a first time user. Click on OK to start the LiveAction client. Your LiveAction Client upgrade is now complete. Step 5: Figure 4: LiveAction Client Login (Optional) If you wish to use an existing exported configuration or if the upgrade did not save your previous configuration, go to the Server Management Console and import your saved configuration by clicking on Manage Import Configurations. Use the Browse button to locate your previously exported configuration file and click on Import. The LiveAction Server will need to be restarted. Figure 5: Importing Saved Configurations 21
Appendix A: Installing the LiveAction Nodes for the First Time Skip this section if you do not have any LiveAction nodes in your configuration. Nodes are used by LiveAction to provide additional collection and processing capabilities in networks with a large number of devices. The nodes run on Linux or Windows O/S and communicate to the central LiveAction server. This guide assumes installation on Linux O/S. Step 1: The LiveAction Server includes a local node. After installing the LiveAction Server in 5.0, a Node Name, Node ID, Location and Status will already be populated in the Nodes tab in the LiveAction Server console. Step 2: Figure 1: Node Tab in LiveAction Server Console Install the LiveAction Node software LiveActionNode x86_64.sh. Then type./liveactionnode-5.0-1_x86_64.sh Step 3: Enter your LiveAction Node and Server IP address. Figure 2: LiveAction Node Package Installation 22
Step 4: Figure 3: Node and Server IP Address Specification Create your LiveAction node data directory. This directory will contain your new node information including configuration, data and connection file. Ensure that you provide the complete path of the directory. Default path is /var/liveaction/data/4.1. Type y to create a new data directory. The LiveAction node installation is complete. Figure 4: Node Package Installation Complete 23
Step 5: Return to the LiveAction Server management console and click on Add Node. Choose a user-defined Node Name and type in the Node IP Address. Add an optional password to encrypt the connection file or uncheck the Encrypt checkbox, click on Browse to locate and to store the *.nodeconn file and then click on Add Node to create the LiveAction node and its node connection file. Figure 5: Node Definition in LiveAction Server Step 6: You will receive a Success notification when the *.nodeconn file is saved. Click on OK. Figure 6: *.nodeconn Save Confirmation 24
Step 7: View the Nodes tab in the LiveAction Server Console. Verify the new node s Node Name, Node ID, IP Address and Status. Step 8: Figure 7: Verifying Information in Nodes Tab Type /opt/liveactionnode/5.0/lanodemanagementconsole to start the LiveAction Node Console application. Figure 8: Starting the LiveAction Node Console 25
Step 9: Once the LiveAction node console is running, import the LiveAction node connection file by clicking on Manage Import Connection File. Figure 9: Importing the Node Connection File Step 10: Click on Browse to select the *.nodeconn file saved in Step 6: In this example, the *.nodeconn file was copied onto the desktop of the Linux machine containing the LiveAction Node. Figure 10: Locating the *.nodeconn File 26
Click on OK and then re-enter the optional password used to create the *.nodeconn file. Click on Import. Figure 11: Locating the *.nodeconn File Step 11: On the LiveAction Node Console GUI, go to the Manage Start Service. When complete, a green LED appears in the bottom of the Node Console with Node is currently running. Verify that the Node Name and the Node ID on the LiveAction Node Console matches the Node Name and Node ID in the Node tab in the Server Management Console. Verify that the Node status in the Server Management Console is Connected. The Node configuration is complete. Figure 12: Node Console Configuration Complete Note: If the LiveAction Node daemon fails to start up and the log shows an error with setting your node-name property in your *.nodeconn file, then it is likely that Cent OS failed to statically configure the loopback IP address in the /etc/hosts file. This issue is OS dependent. To resolve, type hostname to retrieve your host name and then add that to your /etc/hosts file. Repeat Step 11: 27
