OFF If there is no hard drive, the LED is OFF. Blinking This LED will blink blue when the hard drive is being accessed. Blinking This LED will blink red when the raid1 is Building. 7 4.0 Hardware Installation 4.1 Install Hard Drive The following guidelines provide information for the first time installation of your NAS. Before you can get started on the configuration and setup, you will need to install hard drives on your device. 1. On the bay cover, press in the indicator to open the cover. The cover pops open. 2. Open the Case cover, install hard drivers on NAS. Slide the HDD assembly into place until it is flush in the rail track. The HDD must be flush with the rail track. 3. Close the Case cover. 4. Connect NAS to your router or Ethernet switch with an Ethernet cable. 5. Plug in the power cable and then press power button to power on. The status LED starts to blink. This process may take 1 to 2 minutes. Note: In the event of failure or improperly installed HDDs, the HDD LEDs is red. Please power off and follow the steps above again 4.2 Connect to Desktop PC Set your PC s IP settings to match the network subnet group of the NAS. Example: Logilink NAS default IP settings: Configure your PC to these settings: X (Whereas X represents a number from 1 to 254 other than 1). 6

8 5.0 Environment Setting Connect by using the NetTool utility: available for Windows and Mac OS X Connect through the web browser -- available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux 5.1 NetTool Setting: The Logilink Gigabit NAS NS0045A or NS0046A provides user-friend NetTool Utility for quick NAS finder and setting. The NetTool utility is used to detect devices on the local network (same subnet) 1. Insert the provided CD into your CD drive. 2. Windows users may get an AutoPlay prompt as follows. Select Run NetTool.exe to continue the process. 3. If devices are not automatically found, click Search Device to scan NAS. 7

After a device is detected, select an NAS device information from your NAS, such as: firmware version, NAS DescrIptIon, Mac address, IP address, Protocol and Disk information is displayed on the main page. Click to access the login screen of the selected device. The web interface of the device displays through your default browser. Mount the NAS SAMBA share, you can access the shortcut from your computer or Windows Explorer. Your default web browser opens to display the system Setup Wizard screen 8

10 5. For the first time, please click Setup Wizard and the following web interface of the device displays through your default browser. Please refer to Chapter 6.0 for Setup. 5.2 Browser Setting Open the browser (Firefox, Internet explorer, Chrome or Others Browser) 1. Please Input the default device name. For one bay NS0045A, please input \\NS0045A or ; for NS0046A, 2 bays, please input \\NS0046A or Then, you will connect with the Devise and get into the setting place. 2. If your Intranet environment doesn t support DHCP Service, please change your IP setting and input the default IP Address then, you will connect with the Devise and get into the setting place. NAS default IP address: You can key in user name: admin and password: admin to login NAS. (See Chapter 6.0 Quick Wizard Setup or Chapter 7.0 Web Management) 9

11 4. The NAS device must be configured and initialized. After click File Explorer, Mount the NAS SAMBA share will appear as following figure. 5. Click Setup Wizard, Your default web browser opens to display the system Setup Wizard screen. 6. Click icon to begin the initialization process. 10

12 6.0 Quick Wizard The NAS Quick Wizard Interface allows you to configure your personal settings easily. Please key in user name: admin and password: admin to login NAS to setup. 6.1 Setup Wizard Click icon Link to following settings: 1) Device Settings Administrator can set device name, description and select language on this page. 11

13 Device Name Enter the name of the NAS. The server name can be 15 characters long at maximum, which supports alphabets, numbers, and hyphen (-). The server does not accept names with space, period (.). Description Enter the description of the NAS. The server description can be 50 characters long at maximum, which supports alphabets, numbers, and hyphen (-). The server does not accept names with space, period (.). Language Administrator can select the display language on the drop-down menu on this page of the NAS. (Default Language: English) 2) Time Settings Administrator can set the date, time, and time zone according to your location on this page. Date, Time and NTP NTP Server Disable: Click the Disable button and Set the date, time, and time zone according to your location. 12

14 NTP Server Enable: You can enable this option to update the date and time of the system automatically with specified NTP server. 3) Disk Management Administrator can select the file system and format the internal storage device on this page. IMPORTANT: The Format process will erase all data from the hard drive. Make sure that the NAS is connected to a power source and is not powered down during this process to prevent damage to the system. NS0045A: 1. Select the Disk, Create Disk Partition and Format the internal storage device as XFS or EXT3 format. 2. Click Format to begin the initialization process. 13

15 3. Click OK to confirm the Disk initialization process. 4. Do not power down or disconnect the power adapter to prevent failure or damage to your system. 5. The initialization Process starts and the following display is shown. 6. The designated HDD LED blinking during the initialization process. 7. The initialization completed screen displays, see the following figure. 14

17 1. If you just want to use single mode hard disk separately, not to get into the RAID mode, please click the hard disk format button to format HDD. Then you can use it. 2. When there are two Hard Disks inside the NAS, you could enable this function. You could select JBOD/RAID 0/RAID 1 different modes. Create the Raid Mode and disk will be formatted. 3. Click Format to begin the initialization process. 4. Click OK to confirm the Disk initialization process. 5. Do not power down or disconnect the power adapter to prevent failure or damage to your system. 16

18 6. The initialization Process starts and the following display is shown. 7. The designated HDD LED blinking during the rebuilding process. 8. The time required to rebuild a system is dependent on the RAID type selected and the size of hard drives. 9. The initialization completed screen displays see the following figure. 17

20 5) Network Settings Administrator can select protocol type on this page. Obtain the IP address settings automatically via DHCP If your network supports DHCP, the NAS will use DHCP protocol to retrieve the IP address and related information automatically. If NAS cannot obtain an IP at the boot time, the IP will be configured as the default IP Use static IP address To use fixed IP address for network connection, enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. DNS Primary DNS Server: Enter the IP address of the primary DNS. Secondary DNS Server: Enter the IP address of the secondary DNS. 19

21 6.2 Settings The User Interface includes access to Settings (DDNS, Protocol...), Storage, USB. Click icon Link to System menu. System menu displays functions under this category. 20

22 6.3 User Management Administrator can add new users in this setting page. admin is a default user and he has the highest control over this NAS. If a new user is created with password, administrator can click that user to edit it. 21

23 6.4 Download Station The NAS supports BT download. You can add download task to the NAS and let the server finish downloading independent of PC. Click icon Link to Bit Torrent Menu. Bit Torrent Menu displays functions under this category. 22

26 7.0 Web Management 7.1 System menu System menu displays functions under this category. 1) System Information Firmware Version Show firmware version of the NAS. 25

27 Device Name Show the name of the NAS. Description Show the description of the NAS. MAC Address Ethernet MAC address. IP Address Show the NAS IP address. Protocol Show the protocol used to obtain the IP address (DHCP or Static IP). HTTP Server Port Assign a port for the NAS http port. 26

28 2) General Settings Device Name Enter the name of the NAS. The server name can be 15 characters long at maximum, which supports alphabets, numbers, and hyphen (-). The server does not accept names with space, period (.). Description Enter the description of the NAS. The server description can be 50 characters long at maximum, which supports alphabets, numbers, and hyphen (-). The server does not accept names with space, period (.). Date, Time and NTP Set the date, time, and time zone according to your location. Synchronize with an Internet time server automatically You can enable this option to update the date and time of the system automatically with specified NTP server. NTP Server NAS can be sync with the NTP server if it is enabled. HTTP Port Assign a port for the NAS http port. Default value: 80, input range: 80 ~

29 3) Network Settings This section contains all LAN settings to configure the NAS to the network. Protocol DHCP If your network supports DHCP, the NAS will use DHCP protocol to retrieve the IP address and related information automatically. If NAS cannot obtain an IP at the boot time, the IP will be configured as the default IP Static IP To use fixed IP address for network connection, enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. DNS Primary DNS Server: Enter the IP address of the primary DNS. Secondary DNS Server: Enter the IP address of the secondary DNS. 28

30 4) DDNS If user wants to access NAS from Internet, he should register NAS to DDNS Service first and then public it to Internet. After a NASs account and domain are registered to DDNS, user can access this NAS from Internet by using the domain name but not public IP. It is easier for users to remember a domain than a public IP. Register a domain name from a DDNS provider Enable DDNS service Fill in the DDNS account information on the DDNS page on the NAS NAS will update the WAN IP information to the DDNS provider automatically Remotely connect to the NAS by the domain name you registered from any PC The DDNS provider will map the WAN IP updated by NAS to the domain name should the IP change DDNS Service Description If NAS DDNS is set to registered DDNS server, NAS will connect to the selected DDNS server after system is ready. 32 5) Volume Information User can check Disk information in this page. If any new storage device is attached to NAS, disk information will change to the latest status after refresh button is used. Remove USB is to safely remove the external USB storage device. Internal Storage Device This page shows the ID, share name, device ID, file system type and total size of the internal storage device on the NAS. ID: The storage device ID number given by NAS. Share Name: The storage device name. Device ID: The disk ID given by the storage device manufacturer. File system type: XFS, EXT3... Total Size: The total size of storage device. Free Space: The available space of storage device. External Storage Device Connect the USB device to the USB port of the NAS, when the device is successfully detected, the details are shown on this page. It may take tens of seconds for the NAS server to detect the external USB device successfully. Remove: safety remove external storage device. 31

33 6) Disk Management Single Mode Select the Disk, Create Disk Partition and Format the internal storage device as XFS or EXT3 format. Single MODE: if you just want to use single mode hard disk separately, not to get into the RAID mode, please click the hard disk format button to format HDD. Then you can use it. 32

34 HDD S.M.A.R.T status Monitor the hard disk drives (HDD) status by HDD S.M.A.R.T. RAID Mode(Only for NS0046A) When there are two Hard Disks inside the NAS, you could enable this function. You could select JBOD/RAID 0/RAID 1 different modes. Create the Raid Mode and disk will be formatted. Select RAID Mode: 1) RAID 0 RAID 0 combines 2 hard drives into one larger volume. The data is written to the hard drive without any parity information and no redundancy is offered. The total storage capacity of a RAID 0 is equal to the sum of the capacity of all member hard drives. 2) RAID 1 RAID 1 duplicates the data between two hard drives to provide disk mirroring. The storage capacity of a RAID 1 is equal to the size of the smallest hard drive. 3) JBOD JBOD is a collection of hard drive that does not offer any RAID protection. The data are written to the physical disks sequentially. The total storage capacity is equal to the sum of the capacity of all member hard drives. 33

35 7) Account Management Administrator can add new users in this setting page. admin is a default user and he has the highest control over this NAS. If a new user is created with password, administrator can click that user to edit it. User Management Administrator can manage (add, modify, and delete) user accounts of NAS. Users Admin By default, the administrator admin has access right to the system administration and cannot be deleted. The number of Users The maximum of NAS users is 64 34

36 Add user Press Add to create a user with name, password and description The following information is required to create a new user: User name Input range: 1~15 characters. 37 7.2 Application Application menu displays functions under this category. 1) Samba Users can use Samba to download and upload files between NAS and client PCs. The supported OS of client PC is Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS X, and Linux. 36

38 File Structure The root directory shared by Samba server contains: 1) admin: the private folder of the admin Photo: the private photo folder of the admin. Music: the private music folder of the admin. Video: the private video folder of the admin. 2) home: the private folder of NAS users will be created under this folder 3) public: the public folder shared by all users User Behavior admin: admin user can manage all the data in the Samba share. user: a normal user can only access his private folder and the public folder. Web configuration Samba server: enable or disable the function Work Group: the work group setting for Microsoft Windows network. The default value is workgroup Status: display current server status (running/stopped) 37

39 2) Bonjour With Bonjour enabled, NAS will broadcast the HTTP and SMB services. Mac users can use Finder to discover the NAS samba share and use Safari to discover the NAS web page Bonjour Service: enable or disable the function Status: display current service status (running/stopped) 38

40 3) FTP Server Users can use FTP to download and upload files between NAS and client PCs across the Internet. User Behavior admin: admin user can manage all the data in the NAS. user: a normal user can only access his private folder and the public folder. Web configuration FTP Server: enable or disable the function Port: FTP server port, default value is 21, input range is 1~65535 Anonymous login You can enable anonymous login to allow users to access the FTP server of the NAS anonymously. If this option is disabled, the users must enter an authorized user name and password to access the server. Anonymous Download Let anonymous user to download files from NAS by FTP Anonymous Upload Let anonymous user to upload files from NAS by FTP Client PC Language: Support Unicode, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German, and Japanese Charsets. Status: display current server status (running/stopped) 39

41 4) BT Downloader The NAS supports BT download. You can add download task to the NAS and let the server finish downloading independent of PC. BitTorrent: enable or disable the function Status: display current server status (running/stopped) Job List: display current torrent status 40

43 1. Go to Applications > " BitTorrent. 2. Select Add Job 3. Add a new BT task Click Add Job and upload a torrent file (*.torrent). You can download legal torrent files by searching on the Internet. Please download the torrent files to your local disk and then upload them to the NAS. 4. After uploading a download task, the task will appear on the List. 5. Press the Start button on the Operation and the BT task start download. PS: Maximum job: The total maximum number of add job. Default is

44 Preference User can set some BT parameters here to limit the connected peers or bandwidth Maximum peers overall: The total maximum number of connected peers. Default is 240. Maximum peers per torrent: The maximum number of connected peers per torrent. Default is 60. Download rate: The bandwidth of all BT downloading tasks. Default is is no limit. Upload rate: The bandwidth of all BT uploading tasks. Default is is no limit. Refresh task information User can use Refresh to get the latest status of all BT tasks. BT Task info After user trigger the BT task info in operation, the following Job detail will be shown: 43

46 5) itunes If you want to use this function, you should setup the itunes client in the client computer. If the itune server is running, itune client will show this server in the Share item. itunes server shares mp3 files in the public folder. The shared file list will be refreshed automatically every minute. Supported itunes client versions are 9 and itunes Server: enable or disable the function Status: display current server status (running/stopped) 45

48 Media Server NAS can be a media server and user can use some UPNP media player, such as Nero Showtime 8 or PS3, XBOX3 to play video or audio media files on NAS. Media server shares multimedia files in the public folder. The shared file list will be refreshed automatically every minute. Note that the media server is built in Twonky software package, and it is DLNA certificated. Media Server: enable or disable the function Status: display current server status (running/stopped) 47

49 7.3 Maintenance Maintenance menu displays functions under this category. 1) Power Management Administrator can restart the device or shutdown the device in this power management page. Follow the steps below to restart or shut down the NAS. 1. Login the NAS. Go to Maintenance > Power Management. 2. Click Restart to reboot the server or Shut Down to turn off the server. 48

50 2) HDD suspend You can enable or disable the suspend functions of the NAS. Select the time duration the HDD will enter standby mode. 3) Firmware Upgrade Whenever a new firmware released, we can upgrade the NAS firmware from here. The system update may take tens of seconds to several minutes to complete depending on the network connection status. Please wait patiently. The system will inform you when 49

51 system update is completed. Note: User can not shutdown the NAS during Firmware Upgrade. 50

52 Save & Restore Config Here allow us to backup the setting we ve set for future use. (Including the settings in LAN, System, and service settings) Save Config To back up the settings, including server name, the settings in LAN, System, and service settings etc., click Save and select to save the setting config. 54 Restore Config To restore the settings, click Restore, click Browse to select a previously saved setting config and click Restore again. Note: User can not shutdown the NAS during Restore. 53

55 4) Factory Default Only use this function whenever you want the device back to the Factory Default. NAS will be reboot for the new setting to be effective. To reset the settings to default, click Default Setting. NAS will be reboot for the new setting to be effective. When you press Default Setting on this page, all the system settings are cleared and restored to default. Please make sure you have backed up all the system settings before resetting the NAS.
