Language Update on Unix 3-3 A question appears that asks you where the Porting set CD-ROM is mounted. Mount the CD-ROM with the operating system (Portingsets) Enter the location of the CD-ROM file system: [/cdrom] Next, a menu usually appears that asks you which operating system you want to install. The following message now appears: Warning: No operating system on this CD-ROM, nothing to copy The script continues automatically with the next step. A menu appears that asks you which packages you want to install. 8 Press ENTER if you want to install the displayed packages. Press N followed by ENTER if you want to choose different packages. 9 A menu appears that asks you which languages you want to install. Press ENTER if you want to install the displayed languages. Press N followed by ENTER if you want to choose different languages. A message appears that shows the available amount of disk space. If insufficient disk space is available to read the software, you must create additional disk space. Another option is to choose fewer languages or packages and restart the process. 10 Press ENTER to continue. After all the required software has been read from the CD-ROM you are ready to run Install6.1 to install the software.

3-4 Language Update on Unix Language update Note: Before you start the update, notify the SSA One point Online support Services, who can provide you with the latest information about the update. Use the following steps to update the Tools and Application packages: 1 Log on as user root (do not use the su command) and set the TERM variable to vt100 or any other valid value. 2 Change directories to the directory in which the Baan files were read by the cd.read6.1 script and enter the following command: # sh./install6.1 The selection phase of the installation script can be stopped at any time, in other words, before you are asked if you are ready for installation, by pressing an interrupt sequence, for example, CTRL+C. The script can be restarted as often as desired. From the script, to activate a subshell, you can press the exclamation point (!). To end this subshell, type exit at the UNIX prompt. You then return to the script where you left off. CAUTION: Never use the tee command to create a log file. The installation script starts the bshell and, if you used the tee command, no bshell window appears on the screen. During the installation, the Log.install6.1 log file is generated in the directory where you started the installation. After you create a temporary bse environment, you are asked to supply the path to the already installed Baan Software Environment (BSE) directory. 3 Specify the path and be sure to enter the complete path. The default value $BSE/tmp is suggested for the BSE_TMP environment variable. 4 Press ENTER to accept the default and press ENTER to continue. Note 1: The process can prompt you to write the values of the $BSE-related variables to the system-wide profile /etc/profile. Do not write these variables to the system-wide profile. Note 2: The process can prompt you to write the $BSE variables to the profiles of the users. If you do not want to write the variables to the.profile files of the individual users, press ENTER to accept the default answer, which is No.

Language Update on Unix 3-5 The following message appears: THIS IS AN UPDATE Do you want to reinstall old components too? (Full Update)? No 5 Type No. If you type Yes, all language components and former installed PMC solutions will be overwritten. This can cause severe problems. 6 Press ENTER. The following message appears: Do you want to run multiple bshells to speed up the installation? No 7 Type No and press ENTER. A warning appears that informs you that you must remove all processes that use shared memory. You must stop the Baan IVc4 environment before you start the Tools package update. If you did not do so, you must use the rc.stop command to stop the environment now. 8 Type Yes and press ENTER to continue. The following message appears: Are you ready for installation? 9 Type Yes and press ENTER. A Check Fixes error message can appear, which indicates that the preinst preinstallation tool encountered errors. If so, check the displayed Log.preinst file. 10 Press ENTER to continue. 11 Return to Chapter 1, Installation and Deployment Procedure for Baan IVc4, in this document and continue with Step 6.

3-6 Language Update on Unix

Chapter 4 Language Update on Windows 4 This chapter describes how to update an existing SSA Baan IV environment with a language on a Windows system. Note: Before you start the update, notify the SSA One point Online support Services, who can provide you with the latest information about the update. The installation order: You have installed, for example, US English with the new master medium. During this standard installation, you have already chosen the appropriate locale, for example, Brazilian / ISO , for the update language CD- ROM. However, if you want to install a language that requires multibyte, you must already have selected Multibyte in Native Format during the standard install. To install a new language, take the following steps: 1 Log on as user baan. 2 Close all running applications. 3 Insert the Master distribution CD-ROM for Baan IVc4 in the CD-ROM drive. 4 The Welcome screen appears automatically. Click Next. Note: If you must perform a manual launch of the Baan installation program, start setup.exe in the \server\installableunits\ssa_installation_wizard\setup subdirectory of the Baan installation CD-ROM.

4-2 Language Update on Windows Click Next. The Environment dialog box appears. Choose an existing Baan environment from the list. 5 Click Next. The Select Installable Units dialog box appears: Select the installable unit that you want to use for installation. In this case, select From update CD. 6 Click Next. The question Select update CD installation source or Insert Update CD pops up. Insert the Extension CD-ROM or enter the location where the system can find the extension CD-ROM and continue the installation. 7 The SSA Environment Location dialog box appears. If any choice is allowed to be made, make the choice Local. 8 Click Next. The Host Name dialog appears. Fill in the Password field. Please take care. For technical reasons this password cannot be checked at this stage. But the installation will fail if you fill in a wrong password. 9 Click Next. The Destination Directory dialog appears. If allowed, fill in the Directory of the Baan environment (also known as the BSE directory). 10 Click Next. The Upgrade Configuration dialog appears:

Language Update on Windows Select the required update configuration and click Next. 12 Click Next. The Configuration Files dialog appears. 13 Click Next. The Ready to Install dialog appears. 14 Click Install to start the installation. It is possible that the system displays a Login screen. 15 Fill Username and Password and click Connect. As soon as the installation is completed, the system displays an Information screen that informs you that the installation has been completed. Click Finish to finish. 16 Return to Chapter 1, Installation and deployment procedure, and continue with Step 6.

Chapter 5 Logfiles of the installation 5 To enable users to trace problems during an installation, log files are created. In these log files, the installable unit logs progress and problems. The SSA Installation Wizard can detect errors through these log files. SSA Global recommends that you do not change or delete these files, unless told to do so, for example, in Release Notes. In general, if an installation fails, the user of the Installation Wizard must check log files to find out why the installation failed. The Installation Wizard contains several inner programs that each logs their information to different locations under different circumstances. This chapter describes where to find the various log files and what to expect. SSA Global recommends that you compare date and time of the logged strings with the time the failure occurred. In many cases, this can help to locate the problem. The Installation Wizard is always started on a Windows Client machine. If the installation must be carried out to a none-windows machine, for example, UNIX, the Client and Server are different. This situation is discussed in the section Client, later in this chapter. The Installation Wizard handles all the issues for the machine on which you start the Installation Wizard.

5-2 Logfiles of the installation Terms and definitions in the following section ASM $BSE Baan 3GL Dump set FTP IU Porting set REXEC SLM Staging Area Staging Wizard Application Service Manager Baan Software Environment. The base directory where the SSA Server Software is installed Baan s third generation language. IU of type dumpset, for example, SSA Enterprise Server, SSA ERP LN, and so on. File Transfer Protocol: Used for file handling on a remote computer (UNIX). Installable Unit: Part of the SSA ERP LN software IU of type portingset. SSA ES Porting Set Remote Executing Service: Used to start a remote application on UNIX. SSA License Manager A folder on the Windows client machine that contains all IUs that can be installed with the Installation Wizard A wizard that installs IUs from CD-ROM to a Staging Area Client Depending on the type of the IU, the user can decide to use the Staging Wizard that creates a Staging Area, or run the installation from the IU itself. From the Staging Area, the SSA ERP LN software will be installed. The other option is to skip the Staging Wizard and Staging Area and directly run the installation for one IU. However, most of the IUs must be installed using the Staging Wizard. Only if an IU contains a so called setup.exe file the installation can be started for this specific IU. Note: The section BaanERPClient.log describes all the issues for the machine on which you install the software.

Logfiles of the installation 5-3 Using a Staging Area, log files can be found in: <Staging Area>\Logging files\<environment> where <Staging Area> refers to the directory where the Staging Area is located. In the other case, log files can be found in: %TEMP%\BaanERP Setup\<environment> where %TEMP% refers to the directory name of the windows variable TEMP. In the log directories, you can also find the file BaanERPClient.info. The BaanERPClient.info file contains the settings that the installation user has chosen. As soon as the user defines an environment and a destination for the installation, the Installation Wizard will check the system for an existing installation. If the file $BSE/lib/install/BaanERPServer.info is found, the settings are copied from the server to the client to the file BaanERPClient.info. After the copy from the server, all configuration settings are stored in both files BaanERPServer.info and BaanERPClient.info. The BaanERPServer.info file overrules BaanERPClient.info file. The same applies for the BaanERPServer.log, the BaanERPClient.log files and the ExistingIUs.info files. Note: Client files can freely be removed, though SSA Global does not recommend this unless you encounter severe errors that may have to do with settings in BaanERPClient.info. BaanERPClient.log The BaanERPClient.log file is usually the first file to look into if an error occurs. The file contains information about what the Installation Wizard detects and shows the more general error descriptions, if any.

5-4 Logfiles of the installation For example: BaanERPClient.log 4/26/2006[13:30:34(UTC-02:00)]:I:bsp: INFO - Detected Platformtype: Windows_NT 4/26/2006[13:39:22(UTC-02:00)]:E:bsp: ERROR - ttbsi : Error opening file C:\Staging Area\InstallableUnits\InstallableUnit_ERP_Installer\Setup_debug\..\..\..\Install ableunits\ow ERP 6_1\\applfiles\bw_import! This time stamp is related to the time on the Client machine. If the time on the Client differs from the time on the Server machines, you must take that time difference into account when you compare time stamps. Better is to synchronize the time setting for both machines before you start the Installation Wizard. See also the following section, Server. BaanERPClient.info The BaanERPClient.info file contains the information about which configuration is used and what the current status of the installation is. In the following table, some of the most important settings are described: Parameter Environment=ibaanerp Location=0 ProductName=BaanERP TmpDir=C:\Staging Area\Logging Files\ibaanerp SupportDir=C:\DOCUME~1\pleers ni\locals~1\temp\{3c5a8c2f- AD B78B- 0488FBE8E1BC}\ Hostname=CNL09834 User=bsp SuperUser= BsePath=c:\ibaanerp Description Environment for installation Local Windows machine Product name Directory for this info file and log-file Temporary installation directory of User Hostname where to install Installation User Super user (only Unix) $Bse (path where the software will be installed

Further on in this section the name of the top level of this directory tree is mentioned as $BSE. For installations done to a Windows machine all directory forward (/) slashes must of course be read as backward (\) slashes. At the moment the Installation Wizard supports fresh installations as well as updates for SSA ERP LN 6.1. For Baan IV and Baan ERP 5.0 only updates are supported for the Adapter for ERP. Porting set updates are supported for Baan IV and Baan ERP 5.0 on Windows. The update for Baan IV and Baan ERP 5.0 differs slightly from the Baan ERP 5.2 and SSA ERP LN 6.1 updates. Important to note is the missing

5-6 Logfiles of the installation BaanERPServer.info file, as mentioned earlier in the Client section, in the previous versions. However, as soon as an update is done with the Installation Wizard, the BaanERPServer.info file will also exist for Baan IV and Baan ERP 5.0 versions. The same applies to the file ExistingIUs.info, which contains information about what Installable Units have been installed before, and all subdirectories of $BSE\lib\install. These files may not be removed in Baan ERP 5.2 releases and later, but can freely be removed in Baan IV and Baan ERP 5.0 in case unexpected errors occur. Warning: Do not remove the directory $BSE\lib\install or one of the other files! Next updates will fail in case files are missing. BaanERPServer<datetime>.log The BaanERPServer<datetime>.log can be found in the following directory: $BSE/lib/install The BaanERPServer<datetime>.log file contains all logging as described in the section Client. In contrary with BaanERPClient.log the BaanERPServer<datetime>.log has been split up into log files indicating the dates and times that the setup was started. After every update or restart a new BaanERPServer.log is added. This file will only appear when the Installation Wizard has finished. The BaanERPClient.log on the client is a merge of all these files. All info found on the Client machine can also be found on the server. This directory serves as a backup if the files on the Client machine are deleted or if, for instance, the installation is restarted from another Client machine. For the info files the files in this directory are leading. BaanERPServer.info This file can be found in the following directory: $BSE/lib/Install See for a description the section Client mentioned earlier in this Appendix.

Logfiles of the installation 5-7 ExistingIUs.info The ExistingIUs.info file contains information about what Installable Units have been installed before. The file is located in: $BSE\lib\install An example of the ExistingIUs.info file: ExistingIus.info ERP_RuntimeTools_WINDOWS OW_ERP_Adapter ERP_Applications ERP_Tools This file is also written to the client in the directory: <Staging Area>\Logging files\<environment> But, the ExistingIUs.info file on the server is always leading. Installing Porting sets: During the installation of a porting set a folder is created/updated named: $BSE/lib/install/vm This virtual machine (VM) folder contains a part of the virtual machine, necessary for the installation of the porting set. During the installation of the porting set logging is done in the subdirectory log. Installing dump sets During installation of dump sets, DEM models, demo companies, and so on, calls are made to Baan 3GL functions. These functions usually log their information in the following directory: $BSE/log Depending on the date and time that these log files are created/updated, you can find out where an error has occurred. If the installation fails during the import, the main log file created by the import is named log.ottiex1287.

5-8 Logfiles of the installation REXEC/FTP During the installation, remote commands or ftp calls are often executed. If an error occurs during such an action, the Windows Event Viewer (application) will show the reason of this error. TMP files Temporary files are created during an installation. If the installation fails, these temporary files are not always removed. Sometimes they can contain some more information about the crash. You can remove the files from one of the following directories: $BSE/lib/install/vm/tmp $BSE/tmp Failed installations If an installation fails, the installer must check the log-files and try to solve the problem. If the problem was found and solved, the installation can be restarted. The dialogs to select the Installable Units appear with the previously selected installable units, except for the ones that were already successfully installed. Here, the user can add or remove Installable Units to select. After the user clicks Next in the Destination Directory dialog box, the installation program discovers that a failure has occurred during the previous installation (check the InstallStatus in the BaanERPClient.info file).

Logfiles of the installation 5-9 If so, the following dialog box appears: Explanation of the options: Restart Current: Select this option if you want to remove old installation settings and start the installation of the currently selected installable units all over again.* Restart Previous Select this option if you want to remove old installation settings and start the installation of the previously selected installable units all over again.* Retry Select this option if you want to continue with the installation at the point where it crashed. This is faster, but less secure than the other options. This option always continues with the previous selection. Abort Select this option to cancel the installation. * In BaanERPServer.info: InstallStatus, IUstatus, SelectedKeys, PaccCheckSum and PaccSel are reset, for example, InstallStatus is set to The $BSE/temp directory will also be emptied.
