1 Introduction Welcome to the DNS Europe AppLogic Cloud Control Panel (CCP) User Guide. 1.1 Intended Audience The intended audiences of this document are the Cloud Control Panel end-users. An intermediate competency of using web applications is required. 1.2 Prerequisites Before using this manual, please ensure that you have received your welcome mail containing access information for the Cloud Control Panel. You will also need an Internet connection and an up-to-date modern browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari or Chrome). 1.3 Purpose The purpose of this document is to guide you through the configuring and operating your Cloud servers via the Cloud Control Panel. It provides detailed instructions on topics ranging from ordering your cloud server to managing the server settings, modifying the allocated resources, changing the size of the volumes, etc. 1.4 What This Guide Will Help You Accomplish Order a new Cloud Server Manage your existing Cloud Servers Monitor the status of the processes you have initiated within the Job Console 3
1.5 Terms Grid and Cloud AppLogic has historically used the term Grid to describe their product however DNS Europe uses the term Cloud. Both of these terms may be used interchangeably in this document specifically when making references to AppLogic s native information. Templates The CCP requires that Application templates be imported to the CCP and then converted to User-Templates in the CCP. After this they can then be automatically deployed, managed and scaled through the CCP GUI. The Eval version of the CCP includes 2 default templates (CentOS basic server & CentOS LAMP server). You many also import your own applications and templates for use within the CCP. Cloud Server and Application We refer to any application that is deployed in a Private Cloud from a template as a Cloud server or an Application. Both of these terms may be used interchangeably in this document. Bandwidth Bandwidth referred to in this documentation is the internal Bandwidth (Bw) assignments for AppLogic applications and components. It does not relate to the external Internet bandwidth that users may consume through use of their Cloud Servers. 4
2 Logging in In order to login in to your Cloud Control Panel, enter the username and password as defined by your Administrator. Figure 1: CCP Login screen Once you have completed the login step, you will be presented with the Dashboard screen from where all Cloud Control Panel functions can be accessed. Figure 2: The Dashboard 5
The following features are accessible from the CCP Dashboard: 1. Dashboard lists installed cloud servers and available features for managing those servers (modifying settings, resizing volumes, changing resources, etc) 2. Job Console view the status of the jobs you have started 3. Account - manage your account information 4. Order New Cloud Server order a new cloud server 5. Help future versions will link to Forum & Knowledge base 6. Logout end your Cloud Control Panel session 6
3 Using the Dashboard The Dashboard is the place where all Cloud Control Panel functions can be accessed. It contains the list of installed Cloud Servers as well as the features for managing them. Figure 3: Using the Dashboard The following features are accessible from the dashboard: 1. Edit Description change the cloud server name and description 2. Settings manage various Cloud Server settings 3. Change Resources modify the values for the allocated resources 4. Resize Volumes change the size of disk partitions 5. Start/Stop start or stop the desired server based on the current status (if the application has been started the Stop option will be available; alternatively, if it has been stopped the Start button will be displayed which you can use to start the application again) 7. Toggle Details display or hide more details about the server components and allocated resources 8. Delete delete the desired Cloud Server 7
3.1 Managing the Cloud Server Settings The page for managing the Cloud Server settings is populated with a set of properties, which are defined by the Cloud Control Panel Administrator. Some of those settings may be predefined by the Cloud Control Panel and only displayed to you for your reference, while others may be editable. Below is an example of the properties defined for LAMP template by the Administrator during the process of creating the Cloud Server. Figure 4: Example of a Settings Page In order to start managing the Cloud Server settings, access the Dashboard and click next to the desired server. NOTE: Changing any of the values will result in a full application restart. 3.2 Changing the Resources In order to modify the allocated resources, access the Dashboard and click. The following features and parameters are available: Component Name click on the component to change the resources for that component Resources this part of the screen contains the CPU and RAM sliders for modifying the resources; the sliders are interconnected so that when you move one the other is moved accordingly Save & Restart Component click to save the changes and restart the component Save & Restart App after setting the desired values for a component or several components, click this button to save the changes and restart the application Cancel click this button to cancel all changes and return to previous screen 8
NOTE: For Resource changes to take permanent effect; it is necessary to Save and Restart App. However in the short-term it is quicker to just restart the component so that the Application restart can be carried out a later, more convenient time if required. 3.3 Resizing the Volumes The Resize Volumes option is used for changing the size of the disk partitions. In order to resize the volumes, access the Dashboard and click next to the desired server. The following information and features are available: Volume the name of the volume Component the component the volume is mounted on Component State the field displaying the status of the component (either stopped or running ) as well as the option for stopping and restarting a component. The state of the component is important, because you cannot change the size of the volume which is in use by the running component; if the volume is in use by the running component, use this option to stop it prior to resizing it Size the column displaying information about the current volume size New size - the input field for setting the new volume size; the values are entered as number + a letter denoting the size which is either M for megabytes or G for gigabytes (e.g. if you want to set a new size to 300 megabytes you would enter 300M into this field Resize once you enter the new volume size, click this button to make the change Filesystem the column displaying information about the type of file system NOTE: 1. Volume sizes should be entered as a whole number followed by either M (Megabytes) or G (Gigabytes), without spaces e.g. 25G. 2. Restoring the application after it has been deleted requires the help of support engineers so please use this option carefully. 10
4 Using the Job Console The Job Console is the place where you can monitor the progress of all the commands you have issued i.e. jobs you have started. In order to start using the Job Console, click Job Console in the main navigation. NOTE: Some Cloud Control Panel actions are not executed instantaneously as they involve a process of interaction with AppLogic that may take several minutes. You can monitor the progress of such actions through the Job Console. 4.1 Job List By default the Job List shows Jobs that have been created either during the day or the day before. However you can generate a job list based on a defined time period or a specific status by configuring the drop-down filter fields below: Figure 5: Generating a Job List The generated Job List will provide you with the details for each of the jobs: Figure 6: The Job List 11
From the Job List you can access the following information and features: Status: this shows the current status of the Job and can be either: NEW: displayed immediately after the job has been created IN-PROGRESS: displayed while the job is being executed. OK: the status for successfully completed jobs FAILED: displayed if there was a problem with the job and it could not been completed successfully. Submitted on: the time and date the job has been submitted Started on: the time and date the job has been started Finished on: the time and date the job has been completed (successfully or not) Job Name: displays the system-generated job description 12

6 Ordering a Cloud Server In order to order a new Cloud server, click Order New Cloud Server in the main navigation. Next, select the desired Cloud server i.e. application and the page for setting up the server parameters and resources will be displayed. NOTE: Exactly which applications will be available for ordering depends on what has been setup by your administrator. Also, the page with the parameters is applicationspecific. 14
