Most networks have DHCP support configured. Domain User Account A user account on your domain. This account is used to add the HP Business Decision Appliance to your domain, and will also be added to the local administrators group on the HP Business Decision Appliance. You will be prompted for the account username and password at the beginning of the installation, and again after the first reboot. You can use two different accounts here, however the first account needs the necessary privileges required to add a machine to the domain. Domain Service Account An account used to run SharePoint and SQL Services on the HP Business Decision Appliance. You will be prompted for the account username and password during the installation. The rights required by this domain account can be found in the SharePoint 2010 Technical Reference Guide. For more information, see the Farm service account section in the article: ( ). NOTE: This service account is also the default account used by the PowerPivot SharePoint service to access data sources during data refreshes. HP recommends that you do not use an interactive account (such as the Domain User Account mentioned above) and instead use an account that has limited rights to access data sources. SharePoint Farm Passphrase A pass phrase that other farm administrators will provide when adding a new application server or Web front end server to the farm. The passphrase must meet the following criteria: is at least eight characters; contains at least three of the following four character groups: English uppercase characters (A through Z); English lowercase characters (a through z); Numerals (0 through 9); Non-alphabetic characters (such as!, $, #, %). 7 Installation Installing the server into the rack To install the server into a rack with square, round, or threaded holes, refer to the instructions that ship with the rack hardware kit. If you are installing the server into a telco rack, order the appropriate option kit at the RackSolutions.com website ( Follow the server-specific instructions on the website to install the rack brackets. Use the following information when connecting peripheral cables and power cords to the server. WARNING: This server is very heavy. To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment: Observe local occupational health and safety requirements and guidelines for manual material handling. Get help to lift and stabilize the product during installation or removal, especially when the product is not fastened to the rails. This server weighs 17.9 kg (39.5 lb). HP recommends at least two people lift the server into the rack together. A third person might be required to help align the server if the server is installed higher than chest level. Use caution when installing the server in or removing the server from the rack; it is unstable when not fastened to the rails. CAUTION: Always plan the rack installation so that the heaviest item is on the bottom of the rack. Install the heaviest item first, and continue to populate the rack from the bottom to the top. 1. Install the server and cable management arm into the rack. See the installation instructions that ship with the HP 1U Quick Deploy Rail System. 2. Connect the peripheral devices to the server. Powering up the server Power up the server through ilo or by pressing the Power On/Standby button. Installation 8

ilo 3 Remote Console ilo 3 Remote Console redirects the host server console to the network client browser, providing full text (standard), graphical mode video, keyboard, and mouse access to the remote host server (if licensed). ilo 3 uses virtual KVM technology to improve remote console performance comparable with other KVM solutions. With remote console access, you can observe POST boot messages as the remote host server restarts and initiate ROM-based setup routines to configure the hardware of the remote host server. When installing operating systems remotely, the graphical remote consoles (if licensed) enable you to view and control the host server screen throughout the installation process. Remote console access provides you complete control over a remote host server as if you were in front of the system, including access to the remote file system and network drives. Remote Console enables you to change hardware and software settings of the remote host server, install applications and drivers, change remote server screen resolution, and gracefully shut down the remote system. Up to 10 users are allowed to simultaneously log in to ilo 3. However, only four users can access a shared Integrated Remote Console. If you attempt to open the Remote Console while it is already in use, a warning message appears, indicating that it is in use by another user. To take control of the session, use the Remote Console Acquire feature. The Remote Console Information page provides access links to the different remote console access options. After deciding which console option you want to use, click the appropriate link. ilo 3 provides the following remote console access options: Integrated Remote Console Provides access to the system KVM, allowing control of Virtual Power and Virtual Media from a single console using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Integrated Remote Console Fullscreen Resizes the Integrated Remote Console to the same display resolution as the remote host. The Integrated Remote Console and Integrated Remote Console Fullscreen uses ActiveX and requires Microsoft Internet Explorer. Remote Console Provides access to the system KVM through a Java applet-based console. Remote Console is the familiar Remote Console support carried forward from the original ilo product. Remote Console support requires that Java be installed on the client system. Remote Console operates with all operating systems and browsers supported by ilo 3. Remote Serial Console Provides access to a VT320 serial console through a Java applet-based console connected to the ilo 3 Virtual Serial Port. The Remote Serial Console is available without an additional license and is suitable for host operating systems that do not require access to the graphical console. Standard ilo 3 provides server console access from server power-on through POST. Integrated Remote Console, Integrated Remote Console Fullscreen, and Remote Console are graphical remote consoles that turn a supported browser into a virtual desktop, allowing you full control over the display, keyboard, and mouse of the host server. The operating-system-independent console supports graphic modes that display remote host server activities, including shutdown and startup operations. Remote console access to the host server after server POST is a licensed feature available with Insight Control licenses included with the HP Business Decision Appliance. To access ilo 3 Remote Console, click Remote Console. The Remote Console Information page appears. Installation 9

Logging in to ilo 3 for the first time ilo 3 is configured with a default user name, password, and DNS name. Default user information is located on the ilo 3 Network Settings tag attached to the server containing the ilo 3 management processor. Use these values to access ilo 3 remotely from a network client using a standard Web browser. For security reasons, HP recommends changing the default settings after logging in to ilo 3 for the first time. The default values are: User name Administrator Password A random, eight-character, alphanumeric string DNS Name ILOXXXXXXXXXXXX, where the Xs represent the serial number of the server NOTE: User names and passwords are case-sensitive. If you enter an incorrect user name and password or a log in attempt fails, ilo 3 imposes a security delay. Activating ilo 3 licensed features using a browser The Licensing page enables you to view the current license status and enter a key to activate ilo 3 license features. The ilo 3 version and current license information is displayed in this section. If a license is installed (including an evaluation license), the license number is displayed. See "Licensing" for more information about ilo 3 license options. 1. Log into ilo 3 through a supported browser. 2. Click Administration>Licensing to display the ilo 3 license activation screen. Installation 10

3. Enter the license key. Press the Tab key or click inside a field to move between fields. The Activation Key field advances automatically as you enter data. Click Licensing to clear the fields and reload the page. 4. Click Install. The EULA confirmation appears. The EULA details are available on the HP website ( and with the license kit. 5. Click OK. Installation 26

If you chose to grant users permission directly, select the checkbox for the permission level you want to grant the user. 7. Click OK. Post Installation Task The HP Business Decision Appliance (BDA) is configured with enough physical memory to facilitate the performance, growth, and scalability of PowerPivot for SharePoint. Because SQL Server is required for the solution and is installed locally to the appliance, the HP BDA is configured to restrict the amount of memory used by SQL Server to a maximum of 8GB. In some cases this configuration may not have been properly applied and the customer must manually release the memory consumption above 8GB of the SQL Server. To manually release any memory above 8GB that SQL Server has already allocated, issue the following command at an elevated command prompt on the HP BDA: sqlcmd -S.\POWERPIVOT -Q "RECONFIGURE" No service restart or reboot is required. Installation 27

Troubleshooting Windows update encounters an error Possible cause: When using an internal WSUS, WSUS might encounter an 0x error while communicating with the HP Business Decision Appliance during installation. This prevents Windows Updates from being downloaded and installed during the installation process. Action: 1. Click OK to acknowledge the error message, and then continue the installation. 2. Once the installation is complete, start Windows Update normally to verify that your HP Business Decision Appliance has all the latest updates from Microsoft.
