3 2 Deploying Novell automatic, secure and transparent synchronization Novell ifolder ª makes the computer users in your organization more productive by eliminating the hassle of creating, storing and managing their files across multiple devices and locations. It provides users with automatic, secure and transparent synchronization of files between their hard drives and an ifolder server, allowing easy access to personal files from anywhere at any time. DEPLOYING ifolder ON NETWARE SERVERS Novell ifolder consists of three components: ifolder Server software. Provides a secure, centralized platform for storing, managing and backing up files. It runs on NetWare 5.1 and NetWare 6 servers as well as Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 servers. ifolder Server software operates in conjunction with the Apache Web server on NetWare. (The Apache Web server software is included with the ifolder Server software.) ifolder Client software. Performs a variety of tasks, such as automatically updating and encrypting files. The client software runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 workstations. ifolder Web Browser Java* applet. Permits users to get to their ifolder files from machines that donõt have the ifolder Client software installed. The applet runs on Internet Explorer 5 or above, and Netscape 4.7 and above (except for Netscape 6 which is not currently supported). ifolder is easy to implement and manage. You install ifolder Server software on one or more servers. Users can then simply download the ifolder Client software from the ifolder Web site onto each computer that they wish to use with ifolder. (The ifolder Web site is created automatically during the ifolder installation process.) Users can also access their files from a Web browser using the ifolder Java applet. To take advantage of the full functionality of ifolder, however, users must access their files using the ifolder Client. For example, the Java applet does not synchronize usersõ files automatically. Instead, users must download files and then upload them when they have finished editing. In addition, the Java applet does not support the ifolder Conflict Bin. This document describes a step-by-step process for deploying ifolder server software on NetWare servers and for including the ifolder servers in a Novell Cluster Services environment.

4 Deploying Novell 3 STEP 1. PLANNING You can deploy ifolder Server software in either a centralized or a distributed environment. to distribute your servers depends on the size of your company and the Wide Area Network (WAN) links between your offices. Centralized environment You can deploy your ifolder server(s) in a centralized location, such as your corporate office or data center. As a rule of thumb, a single ifolder server can handle about 5,000 accounts. If you have more than 5,000 users, you should consider deploying additional ifolder servers. You can, if you require, separate users on the ifolder servers by functional organization or by location by requesting that certain organizations or locations use particular ifolder servers. For example, you can request that the human relations and finance departments use the server ifolder1.acme.com and the engineering department use the server ifolder2.acme.com. (You assign the DNS name of the ifolder server when you install the ifolder software.) NOTE: You can only request that users use particular ifolder servers. Users, however, can still access any ifolder server for which they have a URL. Distributed environment Large organizations may wish to distribute their ifolder servers to place the servers nearer to users. For example, a company may distribute the ifolder servers by region by assigning its Eastern U.S. users use to the server at ifolder1.acme.com and its Western U.S. users to the server at ifolder2.acme.com. The method that you use STEP 2. PRE-INSTALLATION You should first make sure that each NetWare server on which you wish to install the ifolder Server software meets the following requirements: Netware 5.1with NetWare 5.1 Support Pack 3, or NetWare 6. NetWare support packs are available at the Consolidated Support Pack Home Page: 10 MB of free space on the SYS: volume where you plan to install ifolder. 256 MB of RAM. An LDAP v3 enabled directory, such as Novell edirectory 8.0 or later. NOTE: If you plan to run LDAP and ifolder on the same server, you must install Novell edirectory 8.0 or later on the server. If you want LDAP to run over SSL, you will need to export the Trusted Root Certificate of the LDAP server and copy the key to the ifolder server. You will be prompted for the location of this file during the install of the ifolder software. You need to copy the Trusted Root Certificate to the ifolder server before you install the ifolder software. NOTE: If you plan to run ifolder and LDAP on the same server, you donõt have to perform this procedure. ThatÕs because you can use LDAP over cleartext, which is port 389.

5 4 Deploying Novell Because the directory data is on the same server, it isnõt transferred across the wire. Consequently, no encryption is required. If you have a DNS name configured for your ifolder server, verify that the DNS name and its corresponding IP address are in the SYS:ETC\Hosts file of your ifolder server. Enable Access to ifolder from Outside the Firewall One of the major features of ifolder is that it allows users to access their files from anywhere, even outside the corporate network. To enable users to access the ifolder server from outside the corporate network, however, you must place the ifolder server outside the firewall in your DMZ. To do this, you have to enable your ifolder serverõs IP address and DNS name so that it is available from outside the firewall. You also need to restrict access to the ifolder server to ports 80 and 443. Alternatively, you can employ an L4 switch in front of the ifolder server. STEP 3. INSTALL ifolder SOFTWARE ON SERVER After you have prepared the NetWare server, you can now install ifolder software on the server. For detailed information on installing ifolder software on a NetWare 5.1 server, refer to the ifolder Administration Guide. To access the guide, go to: ifolder/index.html or: ifolder/index.html?ifolder/data/ac12ef9.html For information on installing ifolder software on a NetWare 6 server, go to: ifolder/index.html The procedure installs all 3 ifolder software components on the server: ifolder Server software, ifolder Client software and ifolder Web Browser Java* applet. You can install Novell ifolder on multiple from the same workstation. To do so, you must delete the directory that represents your last installation by performing the following procedure: After you have completed an installation, go to C:\Program Files\Installshield Installation Information. If there are multiple directories, look at their creation timestamps and rename the directory that was created at the time you performed your last installation. After you rename this directory, you should be able to install ifolder on another server from the same workstation. STEP 4. CONFIGURE THE ifolder SERVER(S) Configuring ifolder servers consists of two procedures: Configure default settings for users. Customize the ifolder Web site for your organization.

6 Deploying Novell 5 Configure default settings for users To configure the ifolder default settings for users, perform the following procedure: Go to Admin, where serveraddress is the URL of your ifolder server. This will take you to the ifolder Server Management Console. NOTE: This is a case-sensitive URL. Authenticate to the ifolder server using the ifolder Server Administrator user ID that you configured during the installation of the ifolder Server software in Step 3. You can perform any of the following operations from the ifolder Server Management Console: You can, for example, set the default user disk quota and refresh interval. (The default disk quota applies only to new users. If you need to change the disk quota for an existing user, you can do so by clicking on their specific account.) Customize the ifolder Web site You can customize the ifolder Web site for your organization by editing the ifolder HTML. To do so, go to Sys:Apache\iFolder\DocumentRoot\ and configure the Web site for your specific requirements. If you want to deploy ifolder in a clustered environment, proceed to Step 5. Otherwise, go to Step 6. View General Server Information. View LDAP Settings. View user account information. Remove user accounts. View ifolder Client Connections. Configure User Policies that will be pushed down to the ifolder clients. Configure Server Policies that establish such server parameters as default disk quota. STEP 5. DEPLOYING ifolder INTO A CLUSTERED ENVIRONMENT (OPTIONAL) You can, if you require, deploy ifolder in a Novell Cluster Services environment. Before you do this, however, you should have a basic understanding of Novell Cluster Services. YouÕll find a short overview in the NetWare Cluster Services Overview and Installation Guide at: ncs/index.html Go to the User Policies section and make any desired changes to user default settings that ifolder has preset in the User Policies. Go to the Server Policies section and make any desired changes to the parameters that ifolder has preset in the Server Policies. 7 STEP 6. INSTALL THE ifolder CLIENT ON USER WORKSTATIONS Users can access their ifolder files either through the ifolder Client or through their Web browsers. To take advantage of the full functionality of ifolder, however, users must access their files using the ifolder Client. NOTE: The ifolder Client.EXE file was automatically installed on the ifolder server during the ifolder installation process in Step 3. You can employ any of three methods to install the ifolder Client on your usersõ workstations: remote software distribution program. For more information on ZENworks for Desktops, go to: products/zenworks/ Instruct the users to download the ifolder Client.EXE file from the ifolder Web site and install it themselves. They install it by simply double-clicking on the ifolder Client.EXE program and following the instructions. the ifolder Client.EXE file to your users.
