7 Introduction 2. Introduction Applicability This guide covers the various installation scenarios for the Waters Alliance/eAlliance Driver in OpenLAB CDS EZChrom and ChemStation Edition. NOTE Select the installation scenario which applies to your current set up. Please notify that with the installation of OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition the Classic Waters Alliance drivers are installed automatically. 8 Introduction History of the Waters Alliance Driver Instrument control of the Waters Alliance LC and related detectors was previously available for Agilent EZChrom Elite revision and Agilent OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A through a dedicated instrument driver called Waters Alliance LC Add-on. Waters LC Add-On RC.Net Driver Revision 4.1.x.x of the Waters Alliance LC driver, was originally released for OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition in April Driver revision 4.1.x.x was already based on Agilent Rapid Control RC.Net driver technology and supported Waters Alliance and related Waters detectors (Waters 996 PDA, Waters 2487 DWD, Waters 2996 PDA) on OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A and A Revision 5.x.x.x of the Waters Alliance LC driver, was originally released for OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition. Driver revision 5.x.x.x was already based on Agilent Rapid Control RC.Net driver technology and supported Waters Alliance and related Waters detectors (Waters 996 PDA, Waters 2487 DWD, Waters 2996 PDA) on OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition C and C In addition to the instruments already supported by previous revisions of the RC.Net Driver, the New Driver version 6.1.x.x, supports Waters Alliance e2695 ( e-alliance ) and the related detectors (Waters 2489 TUV, and the Waters 2998 PDA) on OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A and A If you are already using a previous revision of the Waters LC Add-On RC.Net driver, it is possible to upgrade your driver to the current revision. 8 Waters Alliance HPLC Instrument Control Add-On Installation, Upgrade and Migration Guide

9 Introduction NOTE In this document, Waters Alliance LC Add-on is referred to as Classic Driver for any revision prior to revision 4.x.x.x). The previous EZChrom revision of the RC.Net Driver (revision 4.1.x.x) is referred to as RC.Net Driver 4. The previous ChemStation revision of the RC.Net Driver (revision 5.x.x.x) is referred to as RC.Net Driver 5.The current Waters Alliance HPLC Add-on is referred to as New Driver (revision 6.1.x.x). Classic Waters LC-Add-On Driver ( Classic Driver ) Prior to the RC.Net Driver, revision 4.1.x.x of the Waters LC Add-On, OpenLAB CDS used a so-called Classic Driver. The Classic Driver is not yet based on Agilent s RC.Net driver technology. When replacing the Classic Driver with the New Driver for existing Waters Alliance LC instruments, you will need to follow the migration steps outlined in this handbook. Required Licenses for M8239AA Waters HPLC Add-On The New Driver requires valid OpenLAB instrument licenses. For each Waters Alliance HPLC to be controlled by OpenLAB CDS, one M8300AA Non-Agilent Instrument Control License and one M8239AA Waters HPLC-Add-On license is required. Please contact your local Agilent representative if you require new licenses for the control of additional instruments in your OpenLAB CDS system. This Waters Core Driver is required for the control of Waters UV 2489 Waters PDA 2998 Supported deployments All types of OpenLAB CDS EZChrom and ChemStation deployments are supported. NOTE It is not recommended to install both OpenLAB CDS Waters Alliance HPLC Driver and Agilent OpenLAB CDS Waters Acquity Driver Revision A on same computer. 12 Compatibility information Supported GPIB Adapters Waters Alliance Add-On is supported with following NI compatible GPIB adapters. For more details refer to the appendix of this document. 1. National Instrument PCI-GPIB. Supported with up to TWO National Instrument PCI-GPIB adapters per computer. 2. National Instrument GPIB-USB-HS. Supported with up to TWO National Instrument GPIB-USB-HS per computer. The supported GPIB card driver is the National instrument installable version Additional Supported GPIB Adapter ChemStation Edition only 3. Agilent 82350B PCI-GPIB 4. Agilent 82357A USB GPIB Interface NOTE It is not supported to mix different types of GPIB adapter on a same computer. NOTE Each Waters Alliance HPLC stack (Alliance + related detectors) need to have its own GPIB adapter. It is not possible to share same GPIB buses along with modules from two different HPLC Maximum Number of Instruments Using GPIB communication for the instrument communication, a maximum number of 2 instruments is supported, whereas each Waters Alliance HPLC stack (Alliance + related detectors) need to have its own GPIB adapter. It is not possible to share same GPIB buses along with modules from two different HPLC. Using Ethernet communication, only ONE Waters Alliance HPLC stack (Alliance + related detectors) is supported per AIC/PC. 13 Compatibility information Supported Localization The driver support English (US) language only. The driver has been fully validated for English (US) local settings/format. Other locale settings are supported - as long as the decimal symbol is a (.) and the digit grouping is a (,) symbol. Additional Notes OpenLAB Using e2695/pda 2998/UV 2489 with Ethernet connection, an inject start cable must be connected between Alliance and all the configured detectors. As the National USB devices are external devices and not built-in cards, it may happen that the USB might be plugged out. In case this disconnect happens, the current CDS session need to be closed and opened again in order to correctly control the devices. For each change in Waters UV 2489/ PDA 2998 configuration unique system name should be provided in Configuration UI At the max one UV 2489 detector and one PDA 2998 detector can be selected under device Waters UV 2489/PDA 2998 detector. Additional Notes OpenLAB EZChrom Edition Methods created on the Waters Alliance LC driver (Classic Driver) on EZChrom SP2/ ICM/ OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition will not work. User needs to manually re-create the methods. Methods created on the Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On LC driver (RC.NET 4.1.x.x) on OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A upgrade automatically with RC.NET 6.1.x.x without additional rework and continue to offer acquisition and reprocessing handling. Installing the New Driver OpenLAB CDS Software Prerequisites This driver requires OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A or A or OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition C or C present prior installing this driver. 18 Installing the New Driver Installation Pre-Requisites NOTE Before installing or uninstalling Waters Alliance HPLC Add-on setup on machine, set firewall off and User Account Control Setting Never notify NOTE Along with the initial installation of OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition the Classic Drivers are automatically installed. If you are not sure which drivers are installed at present, check in the Control Panel of the Operating System in the Add/Remove or Programs and Features section. If previous drivers are present, ensure to proceed with the correct installation, upgrade or migration scenario. OpenLAB Shared Services Server Installation Instructions Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On need not be installed on OpenLAB Shared Services server. OpenLAB CDS AIC/ Workstation / Network Workstation Installation Instructions For OpenLAB CDS Configurations, install the Waters Driver Pack component on each computer. For OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition Distributed System configurations, install the Waters Driver Pack component on each client and AIC computer. Installing the Waters Driver Pack Components Please refer to chapter Installing the Waters Driver Pack. Installing the Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On 1. Log on to the computer with user account having administrative privileges. 2. Close OpenLAB CDS if running. 3. 19 Installing the New Driver a. Go to start -> All Programs -> Agilent Technologies and click on Installation Qualification/ Software verification tool. b. If IQ test fails, do not proceed further and contact your local Agilent support desk. 4. Install Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On by executing 1 WatersAllianceAddOn_ msi for the EZChrom Version or 2 WatersAllianceAddOn_Chemstation.msi for the ChemStation Version 5. Follow the instructions on installation screens to install the add-on. 6. To verify installation is successful by running Installation Qualification (IQ)/ Software verification tool. a. Go to start -> All Programs -> Agilent Technologies and click on Installation Qualification / Software verification tool. b. Check for Waters Alliance HPLC Add-on driver entry in IQ report. c. If the IQ test fails or Waters Alliance HPLC driver entry is missing, do not proceed further and contact your local Agilent support desk. Registering the EZChrom Version of the Driver To use the Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On driver with OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition, you must register the driver with your EZChrom Edition. Waters Alliance HPLC driver needs to be registered only once per AIC: 1 Go to Start -> All Programs -> Agilent Technologies -> OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition and click on AIC and Driver Install tool. Check Register Drivers and Add Windows Firewall Exceptions check boxes. 2 Click on Register AIC button. 3 Registration Results window pops up. Check for entry Drivers Registered: Waters Alliance HPLC. 4 If Driver registration fails, do not proceed further and contact your local Agilent support desk. 20 Installing the New Driver Registering the ChemStation Version of the Driver To use the Waters Alliance HPLC Add-On driver with OpenLAB CDS ChemStation, you must register the driver with your ChemStation Edition. Waters Alliance HPLC driver needs to be registered only once per AIC: 1 All the dependencies required for registering the driver are available under the folder \deployment\registeralliance 2 Copy RegisterAlliance folder to the local drive 3 Launch RegisterCSData.exe 4 Enter user credentials if required and select appropriate OpenLAB Shared Services Server from Server list 5 The import screen is displayed, listing valid XML file located in the current directory in a dropdown list. In this case only RegisterAlliance.xml will be available. 6 Select the Import button. 7 Import Information window pops up. Check for the Import Done message 8 If driver registration fails, do not proceed further and contact your local Agilent support desk. OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Client Installation Instructions For OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition Distributed System configurations, install Waters Driver Pack component on each client. 22 Installing the Waters Driver Pack 6. Installing the Waters Driver Pack Installing the Waters Driver Pack The M8239AA Waters HPLC Add-On Driver for OpenLAB CDS uses a core driver component from Waters Corporation. This core driver component is called Waters Driver Pack and handles the physical connection and communication protocol for the Waters Alliance and e- Alliance instruments. The Waters Driver Pack needs to be installed separately by following these steps: NOTE The Waters Driver Pack does need to be installed always. Even if the 2489 and 2998 detectors are the only ones to be selected during this installation, other Alliance components require the Waters Driver Pack as well. 1. Double-click Setup.exe to start the Waters ICS Deployment window. It is available under folder \Waters Driver Pack 4 for Third Party Control Update\ RevA 2. Click Install/Upgrade. 3. Review the Installation Recommendations. 4. Select I accept and click Next. 5. Review the End User License Agreement. Select I accept the license agreement and click Next. 6. 23 Installing the Waters Driver Pack 7. Select Connections INSIGHT and the devices to control. Note the Waters Alliance driver supports only 2489 and 2998 devices from the list populated. 8. Click Next button and then install. 9. If the Security Alert message is displayed, you may View Certificate and click Yes to continue. 10. Click Finish when the Status indicates that the installation has completed successfully. 11. In the Autoloader window, click on Close button. 12. Connecting e-alliance Modules Connecting Instruments through Ethernet Using ethernet (e2695 and/or one detector 2489/2998) all configured detectors need to be connected to the Alliance with an inject start cable. Only one ethernet stack is possible. Therefore only one ethernet cable needed to connect PC and a module of the stack. Direct Connection (without Network Switch) Connect the crossover LAN cable from the separate dedicated LAN card on AIC or Workstation to the Alliance e2695 (Ethernet mode), Waters UV 2489 or PDA 2998 detector. A separate LAN card is required for the set up Assigning IP Addresses for Waters e-alliance The static IP address for the driver must be assigned for each AIC and Workstation in your system. To assign the static IP address: 1. From the computer where the Waters Core Driver is installed, navigate to C > Program Files > Waters Instruments. 2. Double-click Waters DHCP Server Tool. 3. Select Server > Configuration Wizard. 4. Select the connection which will be used to communicate with the devices and click Next button.. 5. Select the Default and click Next button. This will set the IP address to the dedicated network card to which devices are connected. If IP address is already in use for some other purpose then please select Custom field and provide any unique static IP address. 6. Exit all programs and shut down any Ethernet instruments. 7. Click Finish button. 8. Restart the computer. 9. Restart all modules on the instrument and other Ethernet instruments. 10. Verify that all instruments have got the IP address using the same utility. Upgrading from older RC.Net Driver versions Follow these steps when upgrading from an older version of Waters Alliance HPLC RC.Net Driver Upgrading from Waters Alliance HPLC driver RC.Net Driver 4, which is available for OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition A from Driver Central and RC.Net Driver 5, which is available for OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition C.01.04/C also from Driver Central. 1 Close OpenLAB CDS EZChrom & OpenLAB CDS Control Panel. 2 You need to install the driver as documented in chapter 5. No need to uninstall any previous version. 3 No further re-configuration required. If upgrading from an EZChrom version older than RC.NET and your instrument contain one Waters PDA 2996, it is required to open the instrument configuration user interface for Waters PDA 2996, check all parameters and press OK. 4 No further actions are required. Migration from the Classic Driver to RC.NET 6.1.x.x Driver Migration Process from Classic Waters HPLC Add-On Driver to the New Driver RC.NET 6.1.x.x in OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition NOTE Along with the initial installation of OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition the Classic Drivers are automatically installed. If you are not sure which drivers are installed at present, check in the Control Panel of the Operating System in the Add/Remove or Programs and Features section. This migration applies to OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Editions users using the Classic Drivers. Do not uninstall the Classic Driver prior to installing the New Driver RC.NET 6.1.x.x. 29 Migration from the Classic Driver to RC.NET 6.1.x.x Driver NOTE In order to reprocess data acquired with the Classic driver, this particular driver is required to remain on the OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition system. NOTE For a successful migration from Classic Driver to New Driver, you must follow the steps documented below. It is NOT sufficient to just install the new driver. Additional steps are required to successfully migrate instruments, methods and sequence from the Classic Driver to the New Driver. CAUTION Follow these steps exactly to ensure successful migration from a previous revision of the Waters LC Add-On. If you do not execute the steps documented in the next paragraphs, you may not be able to migrate successfully. The Classic Driver and New Driver can be used in parallel. It is possible to execute the migration of some or all instruments to achieve them using the New Driver while some other instruments continue to use the Classic Driver. This facilitates the migration in different phases (one instrument at a time, step by step). It is not required to migrate all instruments at once. 31 Migration from the Classic Driver to RC.NET 6.1.x.x Driver NOTE It is not possible to configure Waters Alliance HPLC instrument from an already acquired Waters Alliance LC data file using the Configure from data OpenLAB CDS feature. Scenario 1: Modifying Existing OpenLAB CDS Instrument 1 In the OpenLAB Control Panel, each instrument using the Classic driver must be changed to use the New Driver. This is done by changing the Instrument Type from Waters Alliance LC to Waters Alliance HPLC. See Figure 3. 2 It is mandatory to execute again the configuration of the instrument (i.e. to select the device modules, and to define the communication parameters such as GPIB addresses). 32 Migration from the Classic Driver to RC.NET 6.1.x.x Driver Scenario 2: Creating New OpenLAB CDS Instrument It is possible to create new instruments in OpenLAB CDS using the New Driver. In this case, select the instrument modules and communication parameters as described in Scenario 1 above. If you follow this approach, the same physical Waters Alliance instrument is referenced by two different logical OpenLAB CDS instruments. This facilitates using the same physical instrument with either the Classic Driver or the New Driver. Only one configuration can be used at any given moment because it is not possible for two different drivers to connect to the same instrument concurrently. NOTE Configuring two different logical instruments with two different versions of the driver for the same physical instrument is recommended until the migration project has been completed. 34 Migration from the Classic Driver to RC.NET 6.1.x.x Driver Method Migration After a previously existing instrument was migrated to the New Driver (by using one of the two approaches described above), newly created methods will use the New Driver. It is also possible to re-use methods created with the Classic Driver by executing the following steps for each original method: 1. Open the method file created with Classic Driver. 2. Update instrument control parameters (e.g. flow, wavelength, temperature etc.) as these values have been reset to default by the migration. 3. All other parameters are preserved (e,g, peak tables, integration events etc.) and do not need to be reviewed. 4. Save the method. NOTE A method already migrated to use the New Driver will switch back to default instrument control parameters when you open it with an instrument still configured for the Classic Driver. CAUTION Overlaying Signals Acquired by Classic Driver versus New Driver. In the New Driver, the y-axis units are displayed in mau. In contrast, the Classic Driver incorrectly labels the y-axis units in terms of AU. However, the underlying signal values are in the same physical magnitude and can be overlaid. The only difference is the y-axis label. Sequence Migration No specific actions are required for migrating sequences.
