9 1 Overview This chapter describes the Logical VGA SnapShot overview. Version information before start Overview of the Logical VGA Snapshot Overview 1-1

10 Version information before start LP Web System may display different contents depending on the logical partitioning manager firmware version. So, this document uses "LP Web System" for the explanation of screen and operations hereafter. If your system shows HVM Logical VGA SnapShot Web System, read the following explanations of "the LP Web System" with it. 1-2 Overview

11 Overview of the Logical VGA SnapShot LPAR manager provides Logical VGA SnapShot, which can view or acquire the images that a guest OS running on each logical partition has output on the display unit. With this function, the images output on the display unit by each LPAR (logical partition) can be acquired as snapshots (still images) at any time. To do this, the Web browser on an external console will access the Web server to acquire the snapshot images provided by the LPAR manager. Telecommunication over http can be disabled by one of the HVM Management Commands, namely one of the HvmSh commands. (Note that rebooting the target LPAR manager is necessary to disable telecommunication over http.) For the detail, see HVM Management Command (HvmSh) Operation Guide. (1) Logical VGA SnapShot Configuration Diagram The following figure shows the Logical VGA SnapShot configuration. (a) Virtual VGA Device Virtual VGA device is used for the guest OS to write image data. For further information on the specifications, see the following table. The following virtual VGA device is required to the LPAR. 12 (*1) If any other than VGA or SVGA mode is set, no snapshot image can be obtained. (*2) Strings the logical BIOS outputs to the text mode VGA are displayed also on the OS console (guest screen) of each LPAR. (b) Snapshot Image Acquisition Web Server Web server is incorporated inside the LPAR manager. By receiving a snapshot image acquisition request from the Web browser, the Web server will obtain and return the images in virtual VGA device to the Web browser. (c) External console External console operates the Web browser for displaying snapshot images. (2) Pre-settings for use of the Logical VGA SnapShot The following table shows the recommended settings on external consoles and the web browser on a server where you operate the Logical VGA SnapShot. 1-4 Overview

13 Table 1-2 Recommended setting value when using Web Browser Item Recommended setting value 1 Recommended resolution for the VGA screen of the external console: 1280 x 1024 When setting the resolution other than mentioned above, the display may not accommodate the VGA capture screen. If so, use the scroll bar on the browser. 2 Recommended Web browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer*. If any Web browser other than this is used, operation is unpredictable. 3 JavaScript should be set available because JavaScript is used for automatic update of the Logical VGA SnapShot screen. 4 Popup window should be enabled in the setting of the Web browser. Otherwise, the window for enlarged screens of the Logical VGA SnapShot may not open properly. 5 Select TLS v1.0 or higher in web browser optional setting. 6 Register URLs to be accessed through LP Web System as a trusted site. 7 Confirm security settings for trusted sites. 8 Add URLs to be accessed through LP Web System to a list for compatibility view. 18 How to Login (1) Login Using the Web browser on an external console, access the Web server for acquiring snapshot images provided by the LPAR manager. The URL of the server is as follows: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx indicates the LP IP address (v4). Take note that you are required to set an IPv4 IP address to an LPAR manager when you desire to perform the Logical VGA SnapShot feature to the LPAR manager. After setting an IPv4 IP address to an LPAR manager, you can confirm the LP IP address (v4) on the System Configuration screen. (2) Login screen (Normal) To login the LP Web System, a user ID and a password is requested. The following table shows the default values.
