2 ReactOS is a free and opensource OS that is based on Windows NT design architecture (like XP and Win 7) Most Windows applications and drivers will work seamlessly. The philosophy is that you should be able to use it as a free alternative to Windows without having to re-learn how to use it and without changing software. Can replace existing Windows xp and 7 on the PC. Is not yet released, still in development mode.

3 Chromium OS You might have seen or heard of Chromebooks, Chrome Sticks or Chrome PCs, all computing devices that use the cloud-friendly Chrome OS by Google. You cannot download Chrome OS on your own, you have to get a device that has it pre-loaded. Chromium OS is an open source project (free), which shares the same code, but you can download it for use on hardware of your choice. For people who spend most of their time on the web.

4 Ubuntu is a Linux OS. It is free and comes with free essential software such as Libre Office, Firefox browser, Gimp for image editing and all media is handled by VLC player. Ubuntu also gets more frequent updates than most Linux distros. All of this together makes it a good, well rounded operating system to use. May be a learning curve for some Windows 7, 10 users. Not so much for Apple Mac folks.

5 PIXEL OS This platform was built for the Raspberry Pi. PIXEL OS is easy on the eyes and is free. PIXEL can even run on a machine with a 700MHz CPU, and 256MB RAM. It's a great option if you've got an old laptop lying around that you can't use for even basic tasks anymore. Can also run on Mac.

6 This platform was also built for the Raspberry Pi. It has a more pleasant interface than PIXEL OS, while remaining particularly simple (quite similar to the Apple interface) and is free. Can also be installed on PC as well.

8 Linux Mint (free) Of all the Linux distros, the most user-friendly version is the Mint. It comes bundled with a lot of useful software such as Firefox browser, Gimp photo editing suite, LibreOffice and a ton of free apps that are easy to install. it's easy to learn to use. If you are new to the Linux world, Mint is the ideal OS distro for you.

9 Implementing Linux Mint 19 Download Mint ISO (bootable file) Boot and run/install Linux Mint from a CD or a USB flash memory stick (Flash Drive) Three ways to run/install Mint: 1. Run from the USB drive or CD 2. Install as a duel boot (Windows and Mint) 3. Replace Windows with Mint

10 Download Linux Mint ISO file Click Start. Type system in the Start Search box, and then click system in the Programs list. The operating system is displayed as follows: For a 64-bit version operating system, 64-bit Operating System appears for the System type under System. 12 Load the Mint ISO file to a USB Flash Drive Preparing the Flash drive (FD) for having Linux Mint Live placed on it For FD that will be used for testing Mint with the maximum Persistent storage allowed (4gb): FD will be used to store system settings and programs will be formatted as FAT32 For FD (32gb or grater) to be used as a working PC. Two Partitions will be created. One to be used to house Linux Mint and the other to be used as Storage for user data formatted as NTFS (Windows Compatable) Download the tool.
