2 Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Introduction The Metasys system extended architecture provides day-to-day building operation using a standard Web browser. The Web browser is used for engineering, commissioning, and monitoring the system. Each customer enterprise consists of one or more sites, and each site consists of one or more Metasys devices. The newest device, the Network Automation Engine (NAE), is a modern solid-state device that performs the functions traditionally performed by a supervisory controller. The Network Integration Engine (NIE) is a Web-enabled network controller that uses Ethernet Internet Protocol (IP) communication to monitor and supervise Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment of existing N1 networks. Sites can range from a basic site consisting of a single NAE, to sites consisting of combinations of NAE and NIE devices and one or more Application and Data Servers (ADSs) running on a Personal Computer (PC) platform or Application and Data Extended Servers (ADXs) running on a server platform. The Metasys system extended architecture supports both online and offline configuration, with the same easy-to-use tools.

4 Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin Key Concepts Metasys System Extended Architecture Components Network Automation Engine (NAE) This supervisor controller provides an embedded Web-based user interface to navigate, configure, and operate the site. System Configuration Tool (SCT) The SCT assists in all phases of engineering, installing, and commissioning of devices that make up the Metasys system. The SCT can be used offline to create archive databases that can be downloaded to a Metasys system to an NAE, an NIE, or to an ADS. The SCT uses the same User Interface (UI) as the NAE/NIE and ADS. The SCT is also used for many functions online with a PC or NAE set up as a Site Director, or with a single NAE. The SCT allows commissioning of N2 devices by allowing HVAC PRO software, GX-Tool software, and XTM Configurator software to access the Metasys system. Application Data Server (ADS) The ADS software package consists of two components. The first component is the Application and Database Server. This component includes a relational database package, based on Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE), that provides archiving capability for collected trend data, audit trail, and event messages. This standard Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) is also used to store configuration information for site security, trend studies, graphics, and other Building Automation System (BAS) features. The second component is the Web server component, which provides user interface access. This component includes the Site Director function. Application and Data Extended Server (ADX) The ADX is a version of the ADS with extended capabilities for historical data archiving and multiple user Web access. The ADX uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and extends the multi-user access capabilities of the system. The ADX supports the relational databases Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for archiving collected trend data, audit trail messages, and event messages. This RDBMS is also used to store configuration information for site security and trend studies and other features.

Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin 5 Metasys System Capabilities ADS Features The Application and Data Server provides browser access to the entire system and serves as a repository for archives. These archives include historical data, such as trend and alarm histories, and operator transactions, for example, providing information for additional reports and applications. The ADS also: supports multiple, simultaneous international languages provides a printer destination for alarms allows a greater number of simultaneous users Network Integration Engine (NIE) The NIE is a Web-enabled network controller that communicates with Metasys N1 networks to monitor and supervise the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment of existing Metasys N1 systems. System Configuring, Installing, and Commissioning Configuring wizards help you perform complicated operations and present tasks in a consistent format. The configuring wizards present a series of steps, each correlating to a screen presented to the user. The ActionQ (Queue) receives time consuming commands such as uploads or downloads from wizards, allows you to modify and monitor the commands, and sends the command information to the configuration server for scheduled execution. You can only access the ActionQ from the View menu in the offline mode. The SCT assists in all phases of engineering, installing, and commissioning devices that make up the Metasys system. The SCT also provides C-Tool support. Simulation allows you to perform commissioning and configuring tasks on simulated devices when the Metasys system is offline. In Simulation mode, you can test commands and see how a real system would react if commanded to perform the same action. The same features are used to commission both simulated and online devices. Site Director The Site Director is a device that maintains the site information. This function resides in an NAE, an NIE, or on large installations, an ADS. The Site Director provides a uniform point of entry and supports functions such as user login, user administration, time synchronization, and traffic management. Browsers accessing the Site Director are able to view all system components.

6 Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin System Navigation Users can create customized system navigation schemes in the form of Navigation Trees. A Navigation Tree is a hierarchical method of organizing and displaying some or all of the items within a system. Monitoring and Commanding Monitoring and commanding allows you to efficiently navigate through, view, analyze, and modify items associated with your building operations. After creating items with wizards use these features to: access, view, and modify item data send commands to items run reports to analyze item information Alarm and Event Management The alarm and event feature provides event management for the system and allows you to configure the routing of event messages to destinations such as the ADS/ADX Event Repository for permanent storage. The Metasys user interface features an alarm bar and event viewer. An event is a notification of a status change in the Metasys system. An alarm occurs when a value in a supervisory controller, such as the NAE, goes outside of a user-defined range. When an alarm occurs, an event is generated. Events can be generated by any Metasys platform. For example, if the NAE detects that a network node is offline, it can generate an event. If an error occurs in the ADS/ADX platform, an event can also be generated. Once an event is generated, it is stored in an Event Repository located on the device that generated the event. You can retrieve and examine events stored in the Event Repository. The Destination Delivery Agents (DDAs) interact only with the Event Router component of the Alarm and Event Management system to receive Extensible Markup Language (XML) events and route the event to the corresponding destination it is intended to handle, such as , Printer, Pager, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Scheduling Scheduling provides a graphical view of when events are scheduled to occur. Scheduling automates routine functions such as transferring a room from occupied mode to unoccupied mode for heating and cooling needs and energy optimization. Each schedule consists of a weekly schedule, an exception schedule, a list of items in the schedule, and an effective period.

Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin 7 Historical Data Management (Trend) The Metasys Historical Data Management capability allows you to collect, store, and view historical samples of object data. With the information generated by this feature, you can manage energy usage, prove compliance to standards, and diagnose problems in your Metasys system. You can also trend attributes of system objects. The NAE object comes with a Trend that contains the trend information for all the attributes associated with the object. The NAE has a sample buffer where it stores trend samples. The size of this buffer, in number of samples, is configurable by the user. These samples then can be sent to a default trend destination. If an ADS or ADX exist on the site, you can send the trend samples database. This database supports backup and restore and archival of data to long-term storage. User Graphics User interaction with the Metasys system can be done using a graphical presentation. The User Graphics Tool is used to view, create, and edit user graphics. This provides a way to monitor and control a facility through a graphical representation presented in a functional format. System Security The Security System is responsible for authenticating and authorizing Metasys system users. User accounts and passwords are verified before access is allowed to the Metasys system. The login prompt provides a login button that will encrypt and send the user s credentials to the User Database. If the user s credentials match the login requirements and user s account within the User Database, then a unique Session ID is generated that allows access into the Metasys system extended architecture for a configurable period. If the user s credentials are not a match, then the user will be presented with a warning indicating that the user was not able to log in due to invalid login information. If the account is valid but the password is incorrect, the account may lock after a predetermined number of attempts depending on the Account Policy (defined by the customer s administrator).

8 Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin N2 The N2 is a local network that links controllers and point interfaces to the Network Control Module (NCM). The N2 Bus uses a master/slave protocol, in which the master device, the NCM, initiates the communication with the N2 Bus devices. These N2 Bus devices include the Digital Control Modules (DCMs), Point Multiplex Modules (Multiplex Binary [XBN], Multiplex Electrically Maintained [XRE], Multiplex Relay Latched [XRL], Muliplex Relay Momentary [XRM]), and all Application Specific Controllers (ASCs). N1 Integration The N1 Integration solution is based on the NIE. A single NIE or a network of multiple NIE devices are configured to map point objects of all or selected NCM devices on one or multiple existing N1 networks. The NIE to which an N1 object is mapped provides alarm and event management, trending, energy management, and scheduling capabilities. Logic Connector Tool (LCT) The Logic Connector Tool allows system viewing and editing via any browser logged in to any online or configuration server with access to a system object. You can create new logic systems from any browser with access to the NAE. Use the Logic Connector Tool to create the control logic within a system using a graphical presentation. The control logic may include system blocks and logic blocks. The Layout Mode allows you to edit the logic offline while View Mode allows limited online commanding capabilities. Event Programs (Interlocking) The Interlock object provides a means to establish conditional control over one or more other objects. It consists of an If conditional statement, True command statements, and False command statements. Through these statements, the user specifies a set of conditional checks (using one or more points) for which a series of commands is used to control a collection of one or more other objects.

Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin 9 Energy Optimization Optimal Start automatically determines the correct time to start HVAC systems to ensure the facility is ready for occupants at the scheduled time. It adjusts to seasonal variations and minimizes the energy used. The generic standard object screens handle the Optimal Start/Stop object configuration and focus views. The object defines views for configuration and focus, and the generic screens interpret the views to display the proper fields to the user. No custom screens or handlers are needed. Audit Trails (Transaction Data Management) The Audit Trail feature allows the NAE, Metasys system feature applications and services, and any network controller or server in the Metasys system to generate and deliver audit messages. An audit message consists of the information that describes a significant event on the Building Automation System (BAS). For each significant event, a new audit message is generated and appears in the Audit Viewer. Once an event is sent to the Audit Trails subsystem, an audit message is generated and stored in an Audit Repository located on the platform that detected the condition. In most instances, this is the Local Audit Repository. On the ADS platform, this will be the ADS Audit Repository. Audit messages may be propagated from the Local Audit Repository to the ADS Audit Repository for permanent storage, based on user-defined rules. The user interface contains the Audit Viewer, which allows the user to view audit messages. Once a user logs in to the device running Site Services, the user can view all audit messages from the ADS or any device that contains a Local Audit Repository. When a user directly logs in to a device not running Site Services, the user can only view audit messages in that device s Audit Repository. An ADS platform will contain the ADS Audit Repository, but no Local Audit Repository. Any audit messages generated on an ADS platform will be placed directly into the ADS Audit Repository.

10 Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin Communications, Networking, Dial-in All devices communicate using Transmission Control Protocol/Internal Protocol (TCP/IP). The NAE may reside on an IP/Ethernet network that is part of a customer s Local Area Network (LAN) or inter-networked in a Wide Area Network (WAN) configuration. The NAE also supports a dial-in, dial-out configuration. This feature allows remote access to the NAE in order to dial-out to report specified alarms and trends to a central monitoring location, and dial-in to access the user interface for normal operation and for commissioning/troubleshooting. The NAE can coexist on the same network infrastructure as the enterprise network, using the following Information Technology (IT) standard protocols: SNMP for network management Simple Network Management Protocol (SNTP) for network time synchronization Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) for alarm destinations Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for user interface functions Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Server (DNS) for device naming and addressing Namespace Hierarchy and Name Resolution System Diagnostics and Serviceability The NAE provides collection and storage of diagnostic data. The diagnostic tab of the NAE device retrieves and displays diagnostic data. Network/Device Management The SNMP is used to exchange device and network management information between devices on a TCP/IP network. The SNMP Agent is the component within the device responsible for communicating with the Network Manager via SNMP. The Network Manager device collects network and device management statistics from devices on part or all of the network. SNMP can capture and send information indicating an event occurred in the system. The NAE uses this to send BAS system alarms to the Network Manager as an optional SNMP Alarm Destination.

Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview Technical Bulletin 11 Time Management Time-based data collection, schedules, and time-stamped alarms and events require accurate knowledge of the time of day. Ethernet-based devices use the SNTP to synchronize time across all devices. Systems using SNTP synchronize time by going out to an SNTP server (intranet or Internet server) to verify the time. If the time difference between the system time and the server time is more than a preset amount, the SNTP clients synchronize the system time with the server time. Synchronization happens in one time change or gradually over several seconds/minutes.
