Health and Safety To ensure that our products are safe and without risk to health, the following points must be noted: 1. The relevant sections of these instructions must be read carefully before proceeding. 2. Warning labels on containers and packages must be observed. 3. Installation, operation, maintenance and servicing must only be carried out by suitably trained personnel and in accordance with the information given. 4. Normal safety precautions must be taken to avoid the possibility of an accident occurring when operating in conditions of high pressure and/or temperature. 5. Chemicals must be stored away from heat, protected from temperature extremes and powders kept dry. Normal safe handling procedures must be used. 6. When disposing of chemicals ensure that no two chemicals are mixed. FTS can be programmed to retrieve data from the recorders at regular intervals without manual intervention. The retrieved data is stored in a specified directory on the network. A data retrieval schedule can be defined for each recorder on the network. This lists the times when file retrieval is to occur, the files to be retrieved, and the directory where the files are to be saved. 1

4 2 OPERATION The File Transfer Scheduler runs automatically, retrieving and storing files according to the schedules defined for each recorder. 2.1 Starting the Program Figs. 2.1 and 2.2 Once started, the program runs in the background and does not need to be restarted to collect files. If the computer is turned off and restarted regularly, use standard Windows procedures to place a shortcut for the program in the startup menu. FTS then starts automatically at user login. When the program is running, an icon is displayed in the system tray (adjacent to the clock at the right-hand end of the status bar): Note. If the program is to start automatically without operator intervention to load the shedule file, the name of the schedule file in which the shedule is saved must be included in the command line. Example 'c:\fts\fts.exe' 'default shedule.fts' Fig. 2.2 'File Transfer Schedule' Icon Double-clicking this icon opens the 'File Transfer Schedule' window. The program cannot be closed from either the window title bar or the system menu. Information on closing the program is shown in Section 2.9, Closing the program. 2.2 Creating a New Schedule Item Figs. 2.4 to 2.6 A schedule item can be run either at four specified times or at hourly intervals between specified times. It can also run whenever the FTS program is started. The days on which the schedule item runs can also be specified. To create a new schedule item, click the 'Add Item' button on the toolbar: Fig. 2.3 'Add Item' Button When the program is running, all operations are performed through the 'File Transfer Schedule' window: This displays the 'Schedule' dialog box, into which the item details are entered see Fig. 2.4, opposite. 5 2 OPERATION Creating a New Schedule Item Figs. 2.4 to 2.6 Enter the reference name for the schedule. Enter the IP address of the recorder. Enter a valid username and password for the recorder. Check the days on which the schedule item is to run. List of files to be be retrieved. Select the Recorder type. Click when all details have been entered. Click to select the directory where data is to be stored. This process is described in Section 2.3. Check to run this schedule whenever the program is started. Select to specify hourly data retrieval; the dialog changes so that start and end times can be specified, as shown in Fig All other fields in the dialog are unchanged. Select to define up to four data retrieval times. Specify each time, noting that the Minutes entry for the first time applies to all other times. The times must be entered in sequence, each later than the previous time. Click to specify the files to be retrieved. This displays the File Definition dialog box see Fig Click to delete a selected file from the list to be retrieved. Fig. 2.4 'Schedule' Dialog Box Click to enter the selected file(s) in the list of files to be retrieved. Select the type of file to be retrieved, noting that data archive files are 'Comma Separated'. Selecting 'Configuration' retrieves configuration data from the recorder s internal file system. Enter the tag name for the files. This is used as the name for all retrieved files. Enter the type of data to be retrieved. Alarm/Event Log and Totalizer Log files are generated for each group and have the same filename tag, enabling them to be retrieved as a single schedule item by selecting 'Group Logs'. If minutes past the hour are entered for the start time, readings are taken at 60 minute intervals from that time. Enter or select the hour at which the data retrieval is to end. If a value was entered for minutes in the start time, the final reading is taken at that number of minutes past the hour preceeding the end hour. Fig. 2.6 Hourly Retrieval Note. If multiple files are to be transferred from a single instrument, separate file definitions must be made for each file. 2.3 Selecting a Directory in which to Store the Schedule Item When creating a new schedule item, the directory where the item is stored can be chosen: In the 'Schedule' dialog box, click the 'Browse' button: Fig. 2.7 The Browse Button This displays the 'Select Target Directory' dialog box see Fig. 2.8, opposite. 4

7 2 OPERATION Selecting a Directory in which to Store the Schedule Item Click 'OK' when all details have been entered. Select the required directory. Clicking the '+' box adjacent to a folder opens the folder to show its content; clicking the ' ' box closes the folder. When the required directory is highlighted, click the 'OK' button to make the selection. Note that the folders on your computer are not the same as those shown in this example. Click this button to create a new directory for the item. This displays the 'New Directory Name' dialog box, see Fig Fig. 2.8 'Target Directory' Dialog Box Enter the name for the new directory. 8 ...2 OPERATION 2.4 Modifying a Schedule Item Schedule items can be changed at any time: 1. In the 'File Transfer Schedule' window, highlight the required schedule. 2. Click the 'Modify Item' button on the toolbar or double-click on the required schedule. 2.6 Saving the Schedule When a schedule has been created, it must be saved under a unique name: 1. Open the 'File' menu and select 'Save As'. 2. Select the required directory and enter a file name (ensuring that the extension is.fts) and click the 'Save' button. Once a schedule has been saved with a name, changes can be saved by clicking the 'Save' button on the toolbar: The 'Schedule' dialog box is displayed containing details of the selected schedule item. 3. Make the required changes to the item and click the 'OK' button. 2.5 Deleting a Schedule Item To delete a schedule item: 1. In the 'File Transfer Schedule' window, highlight the required schedule. 2. Click the 'Delete Item' button on the toolbar or right-click on the required schedule and select 'Delete' from the popup menu. 2.7 Running a Schedule Item A schedule item can be run manually at any time: 1. In the 'File Transfer Schedule' window, highlight the required schedule. 2. Click the 'Run Item' button on the toolbar or right-click on the required schedule and select 'Run Schedule Now' from the popup menu. The item is marked with a red asterisk to show that it is currently active. The item is deleted immediately, with no warning message. 6

9 2 OPERATION Viewing the Log File Whenever a schedule item is run, either automatically or manually, all the actions of the program are recorded in a log file with the name 'Scheduled File Transfer Log.txt'. To view the log file, click the 'View Log File' button on the toolbar: 2.9 Closing the Program To close the 'File Transfer Scheduler': 1. Right-click the FTS icon in the system tray (adjacent to the clock at the right-hand end of the status bar): Notepad opens showing all the entries in the log file see Fig An option menu is displayed: 2. Choose 'Exit FTS' to close the program Data Retrieval Selection Criteria Each time a schedule item is run, details of the retrieved files are recorded in a schedule file. This file is checked at the next schedule run time and any files with the same size and modified date and time are not retrieved. Fig Typical Log File 7

11 Client Warranty Prior to installation, the equipment referred to in this manual must be stored in a clean, dry environment, in accordance with the Company's published specification. Periodic checks must be made on the equipment's condition. In the event of a failure under warranty, the following documentation must be provided as substantiation: 1. A listing evidencing process operation and alarm logs at time of failure. 2. Copies of operating and maintenance records relating to the alleged faulty unit.
