1 Connecting to the eduroam Wireless Network Help Sheet Windows 8 October 2013 This Help Sheet assists Windows 8 users to access the eduroam Wireless Network. 1. If you are using a PC, move the mouse to the bottom or top right corner of the screen and select the cog icon labelled Settings. If you are using a tablet, swipe left from the right side of the screen and select Settings. 2. Next Click or Tap the Settings button
2 3. In the settings search box enter set up a connection. 4. A pop up box will appear select Manually connect to a wireless network and click next. 5. Enter the details below: Network Name: eduroam Security Type: WPA-Enterprise Encryption Type: TKIP Tick the box Start this connection automatically and then click Next.
3 6. The next screen will say that the network has been successfully configured. However there are still more settings, so select Change Connection Settings. 7. The initial screen should have the details filled in already Select the Security Tab from the top menu bar. 7.2 Next to the Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) option and click on the Settings button. 2

In the Protected EAP Properties window: 8.1 Un-tick the Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate. 8.2 Ensure that Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is selected underneath the heading Secure Authentication Method. 8.3 Check the box that says Enable Fast Reconnect. 8.4 Click on the Configure... button underneath the heading Secure Authentication Method. 8.5 In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window ensure the check box Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) is UNCHECKED and click OK to both open windows to return to the Security Tab in step 5 of this help sheet.
5 9. From the Security tab on the eduroam Wireless Network Properties screen, click on the Advanced Settings button. 10. On the Advanced Settings screen click on the 802.1X Settings tab (if not already selected) and, from the pull-down Menu select User Authentication then click on Save Credentials. 11. A User Authentication pop up screen will appear. Enter your username, for students this will be your university address followed by your password. Members of staff will need to use their IT account username followed for example ta001@surrey.ac.uk Enter your University IT account password and click Save.
6 12. Select OK on the Advances Settings dialogue box and each of the various dialogue boxes open. 13. Select Close to close the Manually connect to a wireless network screen. 14. Once near an eduroam access point, select the access point from the possible connections by clicking on the Wireless Network Menu via the Desktop or Metro Screen and selecting eduroam. 15. The first time you connect to the eduroam Wireless Network you will receive a warning that reads: Windows can't verify the server's identity If you're in an area where you'd expect to find this network, it's probably safe to connect. Otherwise, this might be a different network with the same name. Show certificate details. If you're confident eduroam is broadcast in your current area click on the Connect button (this will only happen the first time you connect). 16. The next screen prompts you to authenticate yourself to allow the connection; your login details must be entered to achieve full network usage. Enter your username, for students this will be your university address followed by your password. Note: Members of staff will need to use their IT account username followed for example ta001@surrey.ac.uk. 17.
