Planning System Requirements Novell NetWare System Requirements 1 The following lists the requirements for installing and running Tivoli Storage Resource Manager within a Novell NetWare environment. Server Requirements not applicable. You cannot install the Server component to a Novell NetWare device. See the Windows System Requirements, Unix System Requirements, and Linux System Requirements sections for information about requirements for installing the Server on different operating systems. Agent Requirements You must install the Agent on a machine that: is running Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 or above and Service Pack 4.0 or above. To use Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for retrieving storage information from the servers and volumes within NDS trees, you must install the Agent on a Windows machine(s) where a Novell NetWare client is already located. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager gathers detailed storage information about NetWare servers and volumes using native NetWare calls from these Windows machine(s). has an installed NetWare Client. has access to the Novell NetWare servers and volumes within your environment. Client Requirements not applicable. You cannot install the Client component to a Novell NetWare device. See the Windows System Requirements, Unix System Requirements, and Linux System Requirements sections for information about requirements for installing the Client on different operating systems. Novell NetWare You must be running v4.0 or above of the Novell operating system. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager is optimized for NetWare version 4.0 or above, which contains Novell Directory Services (NDS). Using Tivoli Storage Resource Manager with Novell NetWare Tivoli Storage Resource Manager is optimized for NetWare version 4.0 or above, which contains Novell Directory Services (NDS). To use Tivoli Storage Resource Manager with NetWare servers, you must install the Agent on a Windows machine(s) where the Novell NetWare client is located. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will perform Discovery and Scans from these Windows machine(s), using NetWare calls. When the Agent is installed on a Windows machine, the Agent will first determine whether or not a NetWare client is installed. If a NetWare client is installed, the following steps occurs: 1 The Agent performs an initial probe and requests from the NetWare client a list of the NDS trees that are accessible to that Agent IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide

Planning System Requirements Because a NetWare client is installed, you do not need special NetWare permissions to generate a list of your NDS trees. However, Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will require permissions to NDS trees when performing Discovery and Scan jobs of those trees. 2 The Agent reports the list of NDS trees to the Server. Before you run a Discovery or Scan job, you must configure your login ID and passwords for the NDS trees within the Administrative Services node of Tivoli Storage Resource Manager. For more information, refer to the Configuration and Getting Started Guide. NAS System Requirements 1 The following lists the requirements for installing and running Tivoli Storage Resource Manager within a NAS environment. Server Requirements not applicable. You cannot install the Server component to a NAS filer. See the Windows System Requirements, Unix System Requirements, and Linux System Requirements sections for information about requirements for installing the Server on different operating systems. Agent Requirements You must install the Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Agents on machines that have access to the NAS filers within your environment that you want to monitor. The Agent that is logging into and scanning the NAS filer is not required to be in the same domain as the user or the NAS filer. If you install the Agent to a different domain than the NAS filer it will scan, the domain of the Agent machine must trust the domain of the NAS filer. You do not install Agents to the NAS filers themselves. Client Requirements not applicable. You cannot install the Client component to a NAS filer. See the Windows System Requirements, Unix System Requirements, and Linux System Requirements sections for information about requirements for installing the Client on different operating systems. NAS The NAS filers within your environment must be visible to the machines where you install the Agent(s). NAS filers have to be configured to be a member of a Windows domain. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 1-13

Planning System Requirements Understand Your Environment Before installing and configuring the Tivoli Storage Resource Manager NAS Component, you must be aware of the domains for: the user whose ID/password Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will use to log into the scanning Agent and NAS filers the Agents that will perform the discovery and scan of NAS filers the NAS filers you want to discover and scan Keep the following in mind: Tivoli Storage Resource Manager uses the login/password you enter during the installation process or on the Remote Server Logins window to perform a: local login on the Agent that will perform a discovery/scan of NAS filers a remote login on the NAS filers The login/password must be valid for both the Agent and the NAS filer. The user whose account information is being used by Tivoli Storage Resource Manager to log into a NAS filer is in the same domain as that NAS filer. Using the Tivoli Storage Resource Manager NAS Component The Tivoli Storage Resource Manager NAS component is designed to seamlessly integrate with the interface and functionality of Tivoli Storage Resource Manager. You can perform the same operations against NAS filesystems as you would against other OS filesystems, including Scans, Probes, Quotas, Constraints, etc. The following steps provide an overview of how to get started using Tivoli Storage Resource Manager NAS component. 1 Install Tivoli Storage Resource Manager and the Tivoli Storage Resource Manager NAS component. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 2-25

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Field Agent may run scripts sent by server (in addition to local scripts) Description Uncheck this option if you do not want the Agent to run scripts sent by the Server. This option is checked by default. If the Agent may run scripts sent by server option is unchecked, the Agent will ignore scripts sent by the Server. If you want to run scripts, you will have to ensure that all your scripts are stored on every Agent s \scripts directory. If the Agent may run scripts sent by server option is checked, the Agent will run scripts sent by the Server. The advantage of checking this option is that you can store scripts in the Servers \scripts directory, and do not have to keep a copy of the script on every Agent machine. When a script needs to be run on a particular Agent, the Server will access the script from it s local \scripts directory and send it to the appropriate Agent. Note: If a same-named script exists on both the Server and the Agent, the script stored on the Agent will take precedence. This is useful if you want to run a special version of a script on one of your agents, while running a different version of the same script across all the other agents in your environment. For example: If a computers filesystem free space falls below a certain threshold, you can run a script based on that threshold on the machine where the filesystem exists. To do this, you would not target a particular Agent on which to run the script, but instead indicate that the script should run on any computer that has the filesystem low freespace condition. If the Agent may run scripts sent by server option is unchecked, you must make sure that the script is stored in every Agent s \scripts directory. If the Agent may run scripts sent by server option is checked, the Server will push out the script to the Agent machine that has the low freespace condition. In this case, you only have to ensure that the script exists on the Servers \scripts directory, and not on any of the Agents s scripts directory IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager For example, if you want to monitor the Oracle Instances on the machines where you are installing Agents, you must assign a Tivoli Storage Resource Manager and a Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases to each of those Agents. See the License Key Editor section in the Configuration and Getting Started Guide for more information. Field IBM Tivoli SRM (this option appears if your license key included a license for Tivoli Storage Resource Manager) Description Select this option if you want to license the Agents for use with Tivoli Storage Resource Manager. The Tivoli Storage Resource Manager license provides the foundation on which you license and run other products. To monitor storage for different devices (Oracle Instances, Netware Servers, NAS filers, etc.), you must assign a Tivoli Storage Resource Manager license and the appropriate product license (Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases, Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases, etc.) to the corresponding Agent and/or device. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 2-47

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Field IBM Tivoli SRM for Databases-<rdbms> (this option appears if your license key included a license for Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases) IBM Tivoli SRM Detector Component (this option appears if your license key included a license for the Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Detector Component) Description Select this option if you want to license the Agents for use with Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases. Before you can use Agents to manage the storage within your Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase Instances, you must assign Tivoli Storage Resource Manager and Tivoli Storage Resource Manager for Databases licenses to the Agents that will be monitoring those Instances. Select this option if you want to license the Agents for use with Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Detector Component. Note The install program will use the products selected on this window to assign the appropriate licensing to the Agents that you are installing. To learn how to change the product licensing for Agents after the installation is complete, see the Configuration section in the Configuration and Getting Started Guide. 7 Click. The installation program will locate all the machines within the current domain that do not already have Tivoli Storage Resource Manager installed IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager 8 Use this window to select where you want to install Agents. When the window first appears, the left list box displays all the browsable machines on your domain that do not have the Agent installed. Note You can install Agents on any number of machines within your environment. However, the number of Agents that are actually licensed is limited by the number of licenses you purchased. For example, if you purchase 20 licenses of Tivoli Storage Resource Manager, only the first 20 Agents that you install will be licensed by the installation program. See the Configuration section in the Configuration and Getting Started Guide for more information about licensing Agents. 9 The Domain field first displays the domain from where you are currently installing. The Progress Log displays the domains as they are searched. If you do not have administrator rights to the foreign domains, the install will be able to find the other domains but may not be able to enumerate the computers for that domain. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 2-49

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager 10 You can limit the number of computers that are displayed on the left list box by entering a filter in the Filter field. When you enter a filter, the list will eliminate the machines known to the server and display only the machines that meet the filter criteria. Field Domain Filter Description Select the domain that contains the machines to which you want to install the agent from the drop-down list. The first domain displayed on the drop-down list is the domain where the install program is running. The subsequent domains are direct-trust domains. The domain from which you are installing has to trust the foreign domains, and your login must be an administrator on the local box and a domain administrator on the foreign domains. The remote install is more likely to succeed if the remote domain to which you are pushing trusts your own domain (that of the install console s computer). Otherwise, you will have to log in as an administrator on the remote domain in order to install to that domain. Enter a filter to limit what computers will be displayed on the left list box. For example, type w2*s*. The filter supports Unix shell wild carding or shell globbing. The most common wild card characters you can use are: * - includes any number of characters, including 0? - includes exactly one character *[a-n] - includes any number of characters, plus any one character ending through a - n. 11 From the left list box, select the computers where you want to install the Agent component by selecting the computer and pressing. The computer is displayed on the right list box. To unselect a computer, highlight the computer on the right list box and press. The computer will be displayed on the left list box IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager 12 Click. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will run a mini-probe on all the machines you selected to determine what necessary applications are installed and if the Agent is already installed on any machine. This item is grayed out because an Agent is already installed on the machine. This directory is uneditable because the Server and/or UI component is already installed. This machine does not have any components installed. Field Computer Status Directory Description Displays a list of computers where the Agent will be installed. Displays a list of computers where the Agent will be installed. Displays the directory where the Agent will be installed. If a Tivoli Storage Resource Manager component is already installed on a machine, this field will be uneditable. If the field is editable, this means that a Tivoli Storage Resource Manager component has not yet been installed, and you can edit the directory where the Agent will be installed. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 2-51

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Field Space Reqd Space Available Description Displays the space required to install the Agent. In the figure above, notice that the space required to install the Agent on w2k-scd and w2k-sales1 differs. This is because during the mini-probe, Tivoli Storage Resource Manager determined that w2k-scd already had Java installed, for example JDK, and therefore did not need as much space. However, w2k-sales1 did not have Java installed, and will be provided by Tivoli Storage Resource Manager. Displays the available space on the computer. 13 Click. The Agent will be installed on the specified machines. This window is automatically updated as the Agent is installed on the target machines IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Note The installation process automatically creates a Service account on a Windows NT/2000 machine where a NetWare Client is installed. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will use this new account to log into the NetWare server and avoid security conflicts with other services using NetWare. Tivoli Storage Resource Manager will not create a Service account on a machine that is a domain controller. A confirmation window appears. 14 Click. The following window appears listing the computers where the Agent has been installed. IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide 2-53

Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager 15 You can double-click on a computer name to view the installation log for that computer. 94 Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Under Unix For more information about scripts and Tivoli Storage Resource Manager s triggered action facility, see the IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Reference Guide. About the Agent and Scripts When installing the Agent component, you can determine whether to allow the Agent to run scripts sent by the Server. A script represents a command or series of actions that an Agent should perform if a specified condition within the monitored storage occurs. If you choose not allow the Agent to run scripts, the Agent will ignore any scripts sent by the Server. In this case, you will have to ensure that all your scripts are stored on every Agent s scripts directory. If you choose to allow the Agent to run scripts, the Agent will run scripts sent by the Server. The advantage of checking this option is you can store only one copy of the script on the Servers scripts directory, and do not have to keep a copy of the script on every Agent machine. Then when a script needs to be run on a particular Agent, the Server will access the script from its local scripts directory and send it to the Agent to be run. When the script is pushed out to the Agent, it is named as temporary file. After the Agent has finished running the script, the temporary file is deleted. Note If a same-named script exists on both the Server and the Agent, the script stored on the Agent will take precedence. This is useful if you want to run a special version of a script on one of your agents, while running a different version of the same script across all the other agents in your environment. Example If a computers filesystem free space went below a certain threshold, you can run a script based on that threshold on the machine where the filesystem exists. Here, you would not target a particular Agent on which to run the script, but instead, the script should run on whichever computer that has the filesystem low freespace condition. If you do not allow the Agent to run scripts sent by the server, in order to ensure that the script is run on any specific Agent, you would have to make sure that the script is stored on every single Agents scripts directory. However, if you enabled this option, the Server will push out the script to the Agent machine that has the low freespace condition. In this case, you only have to ensure that the script exists on the Servers scripts directory, and not on any of the Agents s scripts directory. And the script will then run on whatever Agent has the low freespace condition IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Installation Guide
