1 Introduction Archive Manager, a component of Asset Management in the ServerView Suite, is automatically installed when you install ServerView Operations Manager. You can use Archive Manager to record and centrally store the system data and operating data of your PRIMERGY servers. You can then check and evaluate this data, thus quickly obtaining an overview of the server configuration. You can track modifications to the server configuration over a longer period of time. Archive Manager provides a convenient Web interface and uses the Operations Manager server list. You can use different tabs to: display archives check archives evaluate archives compare archives delete archives With Task Management, Archive Manager provides complex task management for time-controlled archiving. You can also create a task in Operations Manager. To do this, use the Archive Now command in the server list in the context menu of a server. 1.1 Naming of PRIMEQUEST 1000 Series In this manual, the name PRIMEQUEST refers to the PRIMEQUEST 1000 series. 1.2 Documentation for the ServerView Suite The documentation for the ServerView Suite can be found on the ServerView Suite DVD 2 supplied with each server system. The documentation can also be downloaded free of charge from the Internet. You will find the online documentation on the Internet at under the link Industry standard servers. Indicates a key on your keyboard. If you need to enter text in uppercase, the Shift key is specified, for example,[shift] + [A] for A. If you need to press two keys at the same time, this is indicated by a plus sign between the two key symbols. Screenshots Some of the screenshots are system-dependent, so some of the details shown may differ from your system. There may also be system-specific differences in menu options and commands. 6 ServerView Archive Manager

View as HTML page Shows the information as an HTML page. 14 ServerView Archive Manager

2.5 Output for Archive Comparison The Archive View shows the result of comparing two archives with each other. For the archive comparison, Archive Manager uses names or identifiers (e.g. file name or cabinet ID) to determine whether a component exists in one archive, both archives or neither archive. If you rename a component, this can produce a completely different result. Select Compare to open the Archive View on the Archives tab. 2.5 Output for Archive Comparison Figure 5: Archive View for archive comparison ServerView Archive Manager 15

2 Main Window The Archive View for an archive comparison comprises three sections: the header with the names of the archives that have been compared the navigation bar for navigating within the result the information area, which contains information about the archive comparison View as Text Shows all information in plain text. Entries in the log file and therefore also on the Log File tab are automatically deleted if you delete the associated archive. This is not the case for failed tasks. You must explicitly delete these. Archive Manager logs each task performed as an entry in the log file. An entry in the log file contains the status information for each archive. If you delete an entry from the log file, you delete the status information for the associated archive. The archive then has a gray status icon (unknown status) on the Archives tab. You open the tab by clicking on the Log File tab in the main window. 16 ServerView Archive Manager

4 SVSnmpArchives (Command) You can use the SVSnmpArchives command to create archive data for PRIMERGY servers at command level. For this purpose, the servers must not be in the server list. If you have created an archive for a server that is not in the server list, you can then use the Import Archive Operations Manager function on the archive data to add this server to the server list. Syntax SVSnmpArchives {-s <server name> -i <IP address>} [-c <community>][-r <retries>] [-t <timeout>] [-o <archive file>] [-I <ini file>] Options -s <server name> Name of the server for which you want the archive to be created. If you want to use the server name, the server must be in the server list. -i <IP address> IP address of the server for which you want the archive to be created. The IP address is only required if the server is not in the server list. -c <community> (Optional) Name of the community whose access rights are used to send the SNMP query. If the community is invalid, the archive file contains timeouts only. Default: Server community in accordance with the server list or public -r <retries> (Optional) Number of retries for the SNMP query. Default: 3 -t <timeout> (Optional) Value for the timeout for the SNMP query. Default: 5 ServerView Archive Manager 37

4 SVSnmpArchives (Command) -o <archive file> (Optional) Path and name of the archive file. Use the following format for the time stamp in the archive name: YYYYMMDDhhmmss. If you do not specify a path, the archive is stored in the SnmpArchives directory. If you do not specify the option, the archive is stored in the Archives ServerView archive directory under the corresponding server name or IP address. -I <ini file> (Optional) ini file for controlling archiving. The ini file contains the object IDs for the SNMP Walk query. If a server is in the server list, the ini file that corresponds to the server type is used. Default: StartOids.ini (in the SnmpArchives directory). 4.1 Using a Command to Create an Archive To create an archive for a server at command level, use the SVSnmpArchives command. The procedure depends on the operating system installed on the server. Windows 1. Open a command window. 2. Switch to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Fujitsu\ServerView Suite\ svom\data\serverview\archive 3. Then enter the command, e.g. SVSnmpArchives -s testserver. The archive is stored in the same directory. 4. Close the command window again. 38 ServerView Archive Manager

4.1 Using a Command to Create an Archive Linux 1. Open a terminal window. 2. Switch to the following directory: /opt/fujitsu/serverviewsuite/svom/data/ ServerView/Archive 3. Then enter the command, e.g. SVSnmpArchives -s testserver. The archive is stored in the same directory. 4. Close the terminal window again. ServerView Archive Manager 39

5 Optimizing Performance Depending on the server type, you may have to optimize Archive Manager so that it does not affect the performance of your management server. You achieve this, e.g. by redetermining the possible number of parallel tasks or by resetting the timeouts and number of retries. Determining the number of parallel tasks This value controls the number of servers that will be archived at the same time. If more archives than this are requested simultaneously, the remaining will be retrieved as soon as a slot is free. This is to help control the machine resource usage at archiving time. The default for the number of parallel tasks is 30. If there are more than 30 parallel tasks at a particular time, the surplus tasks are processed as soon as possible. If your management server has problems handling that many archive processes at once, you can modify this value and set it to 20, for example. If you set it to 0, there is no limit on the number of archives which will be created at once. 1. Make sure that no tasks are running on the Settings tab. 2. Close ServerView Operations Manager. 3. Stop the ServerView Services: Windows: Use the Windows Task Manager and stop the ServerView Services. Linux: Use the command /usr/bin/sv_services stop 4. Switch to the following directory: Windows: C:\Program Files\Fujitsu\ServerView Suite\svom\data\ServerView\Archive Linux: /opt/fujitsu/serverviewsuite/svom/data/ ServerView/Archive ServerView Archive Manager 41

5 Optimizing Performance 5. Open the SVArchiveServer.ini file to edit it. 6. Find the ConcurrentJobsAllowed parameter and set the value to the required number. 7. Save the modifications you have made. 8. Close the SVArchiveServer.ini file. 9. Restart the ServerView Services. Windows: Use the Windows Task Manager and start the ServerView Services. Linux: Use the command /usr/bin/sv_services start If you upgrade the Archive Manager software, the value of the ConcurrentJobsAllowed parameter will be reset to the default value. Timeouts and retries If the wait time is increasingly exceeded during archiving and therefore no archive is created, you can increase the wait time and the number of retries. You can: set these values when a server is added to the server list. Select the Network/SNMP tab in the Server Browser. adjust these values by selecting the server in the server list and click Server Properties in the context menu. Select the Network/SNMP tab in the Server Properties on <server> property window. 42 ServerView Archive Manager
