INTRODUCTION Hi everyone, here I am with a new guide. I hope you will like the guide. It's based mostly on this one: HP G62-453 Teardown Good luck. TOOLS: Phillips #00 Screwdriver (1) Metal Spudger (1) PARTS: Thermal Paste (1) Compressed Air (1) ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 2 of 12

Step 1 HP G62-453 disassembly for cleaning and thermal paste First of all, we will remove the battery and open up the 2 panels at the bottom of the laptop. You'll see the RAM, HDD and Wifi. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 3 of 12

Step 2 Disconnect the wifi antennas and remove the wifi adapter. Keep in mind where to put the antennas again. Tip: Make a plan. Sketch the laptop, where all the screws are and how to put it back afterwards. You remove the wifi adapter by removing the small screw and lifting up the adapter. Ram modules are removed by pressing out on the metal tabs. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 4 of 12

Step 3 Now remove the HDD and the RAM. Unscrew the harddrive and lift it out. Gently pull out the SATA connector. Step 4 Remove the screws for the keyboard. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 5 of 12

Step 5 Remove the 3 screws of the DVD/RW bay. Now remove the dvd bay by prying a little spudger between the case and the dvd player. Then gently pull the dvd player out. Step 6 This is the step where we will remove the screws from the whole case. First remove the screws in the battery compartment. Remove the rest of the case screws. There is one screw at the top left corner not shown in the pictures There are 2 hidden screws in the HDD compartment. ( M2.5x6.5) ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 6 of 12

Step 7 After removing all the screws, we can remove the keyboard. Be careful because you can break keys or the entire keyboard. Use a spudger to pry and search for the "locks" use your hand to gently remove the keyboard. You will here clicks. Open the socket by clicking it up. Pull the connector gently away from the socket. Step 8 There are hidden screws under the keyboard. Remove them. (M2.5x6.5) ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 7 of 12

HP G62-453 disassembly for cleaning and thermal paste Step 9 Remove all the visible connectors. The other connectors are from the power button and the mouse pad. Now gently remove the case with a spudger. Gently slide the spudger to open the case. You will hear clicks. Step 10 Be careful arround the connectors. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 8 of 12

Step 11 After you've removed the case you will see the motherboard. Remove the screws from the motherboard. Step 12 Remove the connectors for the screen. Be careful with the connector (the bigger of the two.) (With the HP SPARE sticker) During re-assembly tape the LCD cable to the motherboard with electrical tape. It will fit better and you have less troubles with the screen. Kapton tape can also be used and is better arround heat. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 9 of 12

Step 13 Now remove the SATA dock from the dvd player. Like the other connectors, just pull it gently out the socket. Step 14 Now remove the usb conncetor + the dc jack connector. Take extra care with the flat cable for the USB connector After removing all the cables/ wires and screws, we can remove the screws from the screen hinge. It should only be needed to remove the screws on the left hinge. Remove the motherboard by pulling it up and sliding it to the right. you might need to move the screen a few mm so you can slide the motherboard free. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 10 of 12

Step 15 Now the last steps. We will put some new thermal paste on the soldered CPU and GPU. First remove the 4 screws of the socket. remove the heatsink, be carefull for the little power socket attached at the motherboard, running to the cooling fan. Clean off the old thermal paste with some paper tissue and Q tips and some alcohol. Apply a small drop of thermal paste on each chip. The goal is to keep the the thermal paste inside the green lines. After applying the small drop test fit the heatsink and see if you put on to much. If you did remove the extra with a Q tip and alcohol. It will only make the job more easy next time ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 11 of 12

Step 16 Now re-assemble the laptop. Just reverse everything you did. When you have screwed on the heatsink hold the fan with a finger and blast the heatsink fins with compressed air to get any dirt out. you might have to blow from both sides of the fins to get trapped dirt out. Its very important that the fans does not spin... it will reach speeds that can destroy it. Give case a short blast of air also to get dirt out... also blast the connectors as they are good at collecting dust and dirt To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
