PLAY, CONTROL, CHARGE Your ipod and ipod mini through Car Stereo! Thank you for purchasing this product. This manual describes the functions and operation of ipod to vehicle audio system interface. Please read this manual before installing this product in your vehicle. KEY FEATURES This interface connects an ipod and ipod mini (ipod) directly to your vehicle audio system. It translates commands from your radio into commands that ipod understands. This interface enables ipod to take the place of a CD Changer and provides the following benefits: Direct ipod s audio output to vehicle audio system for optimal sound quality playback. Control of ipod via vehicle radio and steering wheel controls, and operate just like a CD changer. Charging of ipod s internal battery and charging automatically stops at one hour after ipod is paused, to prevent battery drain. Plus a DVD or other audio device can be used in conjunction with your ipod through the Auxiliary Audio Input of the interface.

COMPATIBILITY This interface is compatible with the following ipod models featuring a dock connector: ipod G3 (firmware version 2.2) ipod G4 (firmware version 3.2) ipod mini (firmware version 1.1) Future firmware updates for your ipod may affect the features and functions described in this owner s manual. This interface is designed as an alternative replacement to the CD changer unit in your vehicle. Therefore it is not possible to have the CD Changer and interface simultaneously connected to your radio. The CD changer which is built-in the radio will not be affected. PACKAGE CONTENTS interface adapter. CAS-TYI Cable CAS-TA Cable CB-PA14 ipod Connection Cable Mounting Screws (4) Section I. INSTALLATION Step 1 Remove the radio. Step 2 Disconnect the existing CD changer from the radio if there is one. Step 3 Plug the CAS-TYI cable to the receptor at back of radio. (For some of receptors plug CAS-TA to the back of the radio and connect CAS-TYI to the other end of CAS-TA.) Step 4 Plug the round din plug on the other end of the CAS-TYI to interface adapter box where it is labeled RADIO. Step 5 Connect the audio output of your auxiliary devices to AUX input jack on the interface adaptor box (Please see detail explanation in OPTION SELECTION below) Step 6 Plug CB-PA14 cable to interface adaptor box where it is labeled ipod. Step 7 Reinstall the radio.

Additional AUX INPUT Option Selection interface adaptor is capable to connect two audio sources to your radio, including ipod. The additional audio source connects to the RCA input jack marked as AUX AUDIO INPUT. If you choose to use AUX AUDIO INPUT, the DIP switch #1 and #2 at the side of adaptor box must be set to OFF position (it is preset to ON at factory). The audio source at AUX AUDIO INPUT can be accessed at CD 6 Track 1 after pressing DISC key on radio. And, CD1 to CD 5 are for accessing play lists on your ipod.

Section II. OPERATION A. In case the AUX AUDIO INPUT option is NOT selected, please proceed to Section II Connecting & disconnecting of ipod. B. In case the AUX AUDIO INPUT option is selected, radio will display CD 6 Track 1 when DISC button is pressed. CD 6 Track 1 gives access to the audio source connected to AUX AUDIO INPUT port. Adjust VOLUME, BASS, TREBLE and etc. As you would normally do for the other program sources on the radio. Note: The following ipod functions/features are not supported by this interface device: >>Display of artist and song title information. >>Track search by artist, song title, album or genre. Section III. CONNECTING & DISCONNECTING of ipod The procedures for connecting and disconnecting the ipod to your interface adaptor are described in this section. Please follow these instructions to avoid problems of connectivity and errors of synchronization between ipod and radio. WARNING!! Use only the ipod connection cable ( part no. CB-PA14) which comes with interface adaptor. ipod connection cables from other sources may look similar, but they may damage your ipod. III-A. Connecting ipod to the interface Turn your radio ON before connecting your ipod. After connection, the ipod will take a few moments to change to external control mode. On the screen of ipod will then show ipod Vehicle Manufacturer s name OK to disconnect and you are now able to select ipod mode.

III-B. Selecting ipod mode Press the DISC button repeatedly until CD 6-x appears on the display (x is the track number of Now Playing song on ipod). This display confirms that ipod mode has been completely synchronized and activated. Synchronization timing varies according to the number of play lists on your ipod. If ipod was playing previously before radio or ACC power was OFF, and the ipod was not disconnected, playback resumes from where it stopped. III-C. Disconnecting ipod from the interface In case your ipod is disconnected during playback in ipod mode, the radio will automatically switch to AM/FM mode. After disconnecting, wait until the ipod screen changes from the external control mode screen back to the normal menu before attempting to reconnect to the interface. Pressing and holding Play/Pause button on ipod may get the normal ipod menu back faster. Section IV. PLAYBACK OF SONGS ON ipod IV-A. Playing content of your ipod All audio tracks on your ipod will be played (All play) at DISC 6 if the AUX option is not selected. Track order is determined by the default order on your ipod. Selecting DISC1 to DISC 5 on the radio will allow playback of 5 play lists on ipod. Please refer to Play list naming in this manual for more information regarding available and unavailable play lists. Every time when ipod is connected to the interface adaptor, the playback starts from Now Playing song at DISC 6 by default. If ipod was playing any of its play list right before connection, the same play list will continue play and repeated at disc 6 and ipod switches to All when fast forward is pressed. IV-B. Selecting a play list Press DISC UP (^) or DISC DOWN (v) button to select a play list. The selected play list will begin playing. And the play list number and track number will be displayed. In rare cases this may take up to few seconds for the completion of synchronization. After playing the last song in the current play list, playback will start again from the first track of this play list.

IV-C. Play list naming When ipod is connected to your radio via interface adaptor, the scans all available play lists on ipod. Play lists are related to DISC number in the following manner for a Toyota radio: DISC 1: TOYOTA1 DISC 2: TOYOTA2 DISC 3: TOYOTA3 DISC 4: TOYOTA4 DISC 5: TOYOTA5 DISC 6: ALL SONGS on ipod The vehicle manufacturer name will appear in place of Toyota in the above example as appropriate (i.e. GM, FORD, HONDA, CHRYSLER, VOLVO, VW, BMW) The naming of play list in itune for your ipod interface must be exactly as shown. VEHICLE MANUFACTURER S NAME. For example a Toyota radio is TOYOTA spelled in capital letters and there can be no spaces between TOYOTA text and number. However, you may add any text after the correct naming of a play list. (i.e. TOYOTA1-Jazz, TOYOTA3_Favorite3 are acceptable play list names for ipod interface.) An unavailable play list will occur if no play list name matches the play list number. (For example, if no play list has the name TOYOTA5 then DISC 5 will not be available.) The ipod interface does not recognize a play lists that contains no audio tracks regardless of play list naming. The ipod interface also does not recognize the On-The-Go play list on your ipod. In this section TOYOTA name is used as an example. The proper vehicle manufacturer s name should be substituted for the correct model of and vehicle that you are using.

Section V. PLAYBACK CONTROLS You can control playback with several functions. These functions are generally cancelled when you press select radio buttons; disconnect the ipod, or POWER OFF the radio or ACC. SCAN Press the scan button, each track in the current play list plays for 10 seconds. If SCAN is pressed at DISC 6, all songs on the ipod will be scanned. Random (Shuffle) Press the random button (RND), songs within a play list will playback in random order. The display of track number will change to start from 1 as it does on the ipod. Repeat Repeat of song being played is not supported. Track Up/Down Press the track up button to advance to the next track in the play list. Press the track down button to the beginning of the track being played. Press the track down button twice to return to the previous track. If the track up and/or track down buttons are pressed quickly in repetition, the track numbers displayed may change unevenly. You may also hear short bits of audio during repeated presses of track up and track down buttons. If your radio currently displays a maximum of two digits for track number, track number 100 displays as 01, 101 displays as 02, 102 as 03 Fast Track Search (x10) Press and / or hold the fast forward or fast reverse buttons, the track in the play list advances or decreases in increment of 10 (i.e. 04, 14, 24 ). When the end of the play list is reached, the search will stop at track 1, and then continue by increments of 10 (i.e. 19, 29, 1, 11). If you are in scan mode, the mode will be cancelled.

Fast Forward/Fast Reverse Play This function applies only in random mode. Since engaging or disengaging the random does not stop playback of the current song, you can change into or out of random mode the fast track search (x10) function, or the fast forward/fast backward play function. Pressing and holding the forward or backward button causes only the current track skips through at speed. During the fast forward, when the end of the current track is reached, the ipod will start playing the next random track at normal speed. During fast backward, when the start of the current track is reached, the track starts playing again at normal speed. To continue fast forward/fast reverse play, release the button and press it again. Changing source to AM/FM, CD, Cassette When a source other than the ipod is selected on the radio, ipod will pause. Section VI. CAUTION The ACC Switch Output Connector has 10mA drive capability only. You must use relay if higher ACC power output is required. In general, ipod has not been designed to withstand temperature extremes in automobiles. Please consult your ipod Owner s Manual regarding acceptable operation and storage temperatures. Do not disassemble or alter the cable and interface box. Make the connections correctly. Do no cut away the wire sheath and use the power for other equipment. Do not install in locations which might hinder vehicle operation or create hazards for vehicle occupants. Have the wiring and installation done by professionals. Arrange wiring so it is not crimped or pinched. Do no use this product for purposes other than stated for the vehicle. Note: ipod and itune are registered trade marks of Apple Computer, Inc. Design and specifications are subject to change without notice.
